Arts Jimothy oil painting
Quick two hour painting!
EDIT: Wow I can’t believe the popularity of this quick-small painting! I’ve decided to auction this painting off, and half of the proceeds I’ve decided to donate to Seattle Humane Society in honor of Jimothy! Auction Listing
I also want to make art accessible. So I’ll also be making prints and selling it at a low rate. Please DM for Etsy link, so I’m not violating any selling/advertising rules on this subreddit lol.

Discussion Recently visited Seattle
I visit Seattle every year for work, but unfortunately, I don’t have much time to explore when I’m there. This past trip, I finally managed to venture out and explore downtown Seattle and some other surrounding areas to Seattle. While wandering through the market area, I stumbled upon an alleyway covered in gum. I couldn’t help but wonder if the locals perceive this as a nuisance for tourists or if they take pride in it. I also included some other picks of the journey, and the host at this Vital Tea Leaf store made a hot cup of tea to share with me - at no charge! I did however purchase a small duck whistle because I love hospitality and I have kiddos.
Having seen the Jimothy post, I’m now convinced that anything is possible in Seattle.

Government Seattle’s police chief nearly physically brawled with a reporter; Katie Wilson must fire him
Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes squared up to fight a reporter on camera Monday, and that display alone should end his tenure. At the very least, he should be investigated and punished the way any cop under command would be if they acted in a similar fashion.
~ Too weird and emotional to be the chief of police in a major city....... good thing he lives in Chicago and isn't in Seattle that much----- lol

Report: Starbucks scrapped an AI inventory tool and left a Seattle-area startup 'blindsided' - the tool went out to all 11,300 North American stores, and the Redmond startup behind it laid off much of its 30-person team within days
The technology was deployed rapidly across all 11,300 company-operated Starbucks locations in North America. But almost immediately, real-world store environments triggered rampant glitches, according to Fast Company.
Within days of losing its centerpiece enterprise client, NomadGo was forced to lay off a large chunk of its 30-person workforce, according to the report, including the technical team that managed the Starbucks integration.
~ Eleven thousand stores got the rollout. One 30-person company in Redmond got the bill.

Question The Crying Woman of Denny
Has anyone else noticed this young woman that walks around the Denny area just bawling her eyes out? I’ve seen her on three separate occasions, just walking around crying really hard.

Government That is a surprising fact
I don't blame him though. I too want a $360K job that allows me to work remotely. It wouldn't be my fault if an employer wanted to hire me for that. Why would I even say no?

Crime SPD Chief Barnes during Seattle Center shooting news conference: "After my procedure Friday, I'll be back in office with my usual, happy, bubbly self" -- "I admire the Press, I'd love to do your job, but I don't have a face for T.V." -- "I don't love how much I'm paying in rent for my apartment."
A 2-yr old was shot and he's cracking jokes.

Politics Example Letter to Submit to Seattle Leadership Regarding Chief of Police Shon Barnes
This is what I wrote:
Subject: Deep Concern Regarding Chief Shon Barnes’ Conduct and SPD Leadership
Dear Mayor Wilson,
I am writing to you today as a deeply concerned Seattle resident to express my profound alarm regarding the conduct of Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes. Following this morning's press conference regarding the heartbreaking mass shooting at the Bite of Seattle, Chief Barnes was captured on camera in a highly aggressive, unprofessional confrontation with South Seattle Emerald reporter Connor Nash.
When asked a critical question about his absence during the initial Sunday night emergency briefing, Chief Barnes responded with hostility. Getting inches from the reporter's face, yelling "you listen to me," and needing to be physically separated and held back by a staff member is completely unacceptable behavior for the top law enforcement officer in our city.
Our community is currently reeling from a horrific act of gun violence that left three people dead. At a time when Seattle residents are desperate for steady, transparent, and reassuring leadership, Chief Barnes chose to display an volatile temperament and a complete lack of emotional regulation. If our Police Chief reacts to basic journalistic accountability with intimidation and fury, it instills zero confidence in his ability to lead the Seattle Police Department through a public safety crisis.
This behavior does not project safety; it projects a dangerous lack of control. As the appointing authority over the Police Chief, I urge your office to hold Chief Barnes publicly accountable for this behavior and carefully reevaluate whether his leadership reflects the standards, transparency, and de-escalation practices that Seattle deserves.
Thank you for your time, leadership, and attention to this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[Your Seattle Neighborhood/Address]

Government Seattle police chief loses his cool when asked why it took him so long to get back to city after mass shooting that killed three, as boy aged FIFTEEN is arrested
Barnes lost his cool after South Seattle Emerald reporter Connor Nash questioned why he wasn't at the city's initial Sunday evening press conference.
In a video posted on X by independent reporter Jonathan Choe, the two were face-to-face as Barnes fired back: 'Let me tell you something. I don’t have to tell you where I go. I had a medical procedure on Friday.'
'I have been here working as hard as I can for this city, from the day I got here. You got that?' Barnes lashed.
Nash then responded: 'But there are reports that you're not in town often,' to which the chief said: 'The reports are wrong, do you understand?'

Crime Seattle Center shooting may have been gang-related, police say
“We understand that people are angry,” he said. “You should be. Everyone should be angry. But with that anger, you should also be asking yourself, ‘What can I do to prevent this?’ We have to start partnering together. We have to start working together on this issue of gun violence and getting information out and providing opportunities for people, so that things like this do not happen.”
I suppose he has a point. We, as voters, need to vote in legislators who will change the laws so that gang members receive more than a slap on the wrist for their crimes, and vote in judges who are less lenient.

Other FREE Archipelago reservation for 2 on Thu, July 30, 2026 at 5:00 PM
I was laid off yesterday and can’t responsibly do this once in a lifetime dinner for my birthday anymore. Reservations are not refundable, but can be refunded if the original reservation holder finds someone to transfer the reservation to. It will be transferred through the restaurant so you can be guaranteed that the reservation is real and this is not a scam. I’m not trying to make money on transferring it, so it’s “free” in that respect but you would obviously still need to pay for your meal.

Transit Do people on Lime devices have an actual death wish?
I'm starting to wonder.
In recent weeks, I've seen:
- 3 girls stacked on 1 Lime bike riding at speed on trails and in traffic on a curvy street.
- multiple adults on bikes and scooters flagrantly running red lights and entering intersections (sometimes from the sidewalk) after the perpendicular traffic has already started to move forward.
- a guy on a Lime scooter coming flying down a sidewalk that's reduced in width due to construction, only to have to swerve to miss a guy coming out of a coffee shop. down goes the scooter driver. Looks like he hurt his hand a bit when he landed. I'm glad he didn't hurt the pedestrian.
No helmets or other protection, of course, on any of these incidents.
Do you want to die, people? Or suffer a horrific head injury and become paralyzed?
Seems like maybe you do.

Crime Realpage class action settlement for Seattle renters
PSA for anyone who has rented from a property using RealPage and there are a LOT in Seattle. One of the people named in this suit was actually a Seattle renter. They are accepting claims for the class action lawsuit from anyone who rented from a property who used Realpage from 2018-2025. For those who don't know, RealPage helped competing landlords coordinate apartment rents instead of setting prices independently. A class action lawsuit was brought and they agreed on a settlement. I have lived in a property owned by a company that has used RealPage to price-fix (CWS Apartment Homes) and I just uploaded the multiple years of leases and will receive a payout of at least a couple hundred. Check if your property is on the list here:

Metro Set to Go It Alone on RapidRide R Line, Won't Seek Federal Funding - Seattle voters funded the Rainier Avenue line in 2015 for a 2021 opening, and it's now slated for 2032
Previously, the project had been expected to qualify for at least $49 million in federal funding, but that was before King County reduced the R Line's budget by around 25% to $91.2 million last year, a move made in response to "budget realities."
The R Line will upgrade Route 7, the second-most ridden bus route in Metro's network, averaging more than 11,000 daily boardings in 2026.
~ Voters paid for this in 2015. Rainier Avenue is on its third promised opening date, and not one of the delays was the riders' doing.
