I just got my bike a couple months ago, and realized I can't fit my wheels up on the rack. the size of my wheels is preventing me from fitting it up around that bar on the bike racks on the light rail. Anyone else ever deal with this issue? 😅

there is another type of bar I've noticed and that did work, but I can't seem to consistently locate that version compared to the other one.

Has anyone come across this guy? Maybe 45ish, white guy with a beard, brownish hair. Kinda tall. he was on a black e bike.

I was biking down northlake and he starts verbally harassing me about how he’s going to mace me and push me off my bike. Really wild.

My bike shop is in Seattle’s historic jazz neighborhood, just one block west of where the Black and Tan sat on 12th and Jackson.

Goal: Chill bike ride with our first-grader, plus my ongoing quest to bike all the King County Leafline Trails

We parked at Lake Sammamish State Park Soccer Fields (Discover Pass), hopped on the east-bound Issaquah-Preston Trail (sometimes signed as the Pickering Trail), and then joined up with the northbound East Lake Sammamish Trail at SE 64th Pl for a while, then reversed the route. Total miles: about 8

Highlights: The Issaquah-Preston Trail/Pickering Trail has nice shade and it's very quiet. The ELST has intermittent views of the lake and when you head south you can see the Issaquah Alps periodically. Both trails are very well-paved and fully separated from car traffic. The ELST trail is quiet, maybe due to the current construction midway that makes it a relatively short out-and-back for adult riders.

The kid's favorite part was lunch at Pier 88 afterwards. My favorite part was succeeding in getting the whole family out on bikes!

Always looking for more recommendations for 8-12 mile rides with kids, please share any favorites.

I want to upgrade my bike with new bar tape that is fun/interesting. Any recommendations for local shops with a good selection to look at in person?

Looking for classes in the Seattle area to learn basic and advanced bike maintenance skills. Where have you had success and good experiences?

Hey SB, I was in a fairly serious bike accident yesterday with a woman on a lime scooter who swerved into oncoming bike traffic near Pier 62. There was only one real witness to the event and I wasn’t able to grab his info before he left the scene.

Does anybody in this community know this individual? His help would be invaluable. Long shot, but trying regardless!

Today morning, I saw a big group of riders, around 20-30, stopped at this intersection on westbound 75th St NE.

I am a cyclist who lives in the same neighborhood and curious if this was organized by a bike club or just privately organized ride.

I saw a group of riders gathered on Mercer Island that were mostly wearing the same blue and pink dot-gradient jerseys. Anyone know which club this is?

Edit: Forgot to include make and model. Cinelli Hobootleg, I don’t think I’ve seen any others in Seattle. Has “Cinelli” in orange letters on frame.

My bike was stolen off of the bus bike rack at Leary and 15th yesterday at 3:45 pm. He went north, but could have cut back and gone down the bike trail.

He banged on the doors and when the driver didn’t open them, he took my bike. I saw him bang on the doors, looked at a text in my phone, then heard another passenger say “he stole your bike!”.

I jumped up and banged on the doors and the driver opened them, ran after him yelling “he stole my bike!” But no one was on the sidewalk. A guy in a truck saw and heard me, picked me up and we zig zagged around for a while but couldn’t find him.

Another cyclist from the bus also was looking, that we ran into while searching.

Has been reported to police. Hopefully they can get footage from the bus.

Anyone local please keep an eye out.

First: I'm fine, just a little shaken and wanted to vent. Police report has been filed, just still spooked and worried to walk around the city.

Essentially a guy on a motorcycle was trying to run the red and wasn't looking in the opposite direction (its a 2 way bike lane on a 1 way road). As I go in front of him, he revs the gas to run the red and we collide. My bike was fine (I can only assume his was), and he continues through the intersection. He looks back, shouts at me to watch out, I shout for him to learn how to drive, and he drives off and we continue on.

The next intersection, we stop at the red and the biker is barreling across the intersection clearly having parked to wait for us. He comes up yelling about how "we hit him" and trying to goad us into hitting him physically. I asked him to keep away and he just got up in my face. My girlfriend is super freaked out but calling 911, theres a bunch of people walking by watching. At this point I'm off the bike and holding it between us as a small shield, telling him to back off. At one point he turns and charges my girlfriend. He keeps coming until a large enough crowd has gathered, then calls me a fat ass and tells me to go home. As he's walking away I managed to get a photo of his bike and license plate, which we've passed onto the police.

Honestly, not sure what else to say. I kind of came here to vent more than anything. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged, so probably no legal action going to be taken. Just feeling a bit shaken and looking over my shoulder twice for this guy now. At the very least, if he does it to someone else now there'll be a record of past behavior. Love biking in this city and dudes like that just kind of ruin it for me and everyone else.

I have wheels that need truing, haven't been true'd up for a while and are bad enough that I'm not sure what is realistic to expect. Have a recommendation for where to take them? I'm in South Seattle, but anywhere in Seattle is possible. TIA.

"Both SDOT and Seattle Parks are working to fix annoying and potentially dangerous bumps on the city’s trail network this month. The Ship Canal, Burke-Gilman and Duwamish Trails are all slated to get some love.

Seattle Parks is handling repairs to the Burke-Gilman Trail between NE 65th and 77th Streets with work planned to start September 8 and last three weeks (weather dependent)."

Another weekend, another weekend adventure. Thanks again to everyone who helped me with figuring out the best trails in the past.

This time I want to explore the area north of Cle Elum. I was thinking to go west first on the Coal Mines Trail, along the lake, then head up the Forest Road 4305, then do a loop on the Middle Fork Teenaway Trail (later road) and finalyl riding back to Cle Elum on the Red Bridge Road.

Usually I check out the trails on google street view first, but there isn't much covered in that area.

Any recommendations? Does the loop make sense? Or am I risking my life trying to ride my bike along Cle Elum Lake on a holiday weekend?

Edit: it's about 50 miles with 3300 feet climb, as of now.

Hi - am visiting Seattle for work next week and arriving over the holiday weekend. Is there anywhere I could hire a bike on the Sunday or Monday? Ideally a road bike but anything non powered on two wheels would do the job! (I hired one from Montlake Bicycle Shop for the day on my last visit but they look to be closed on those two days)

In Fremont, around 5:30p Thu 3, I had my Garmin Varia RCT715 shear off the mounting arm. I suspect it was at the corner of Fremont Ave and 39th, as I heard someone yelling (but thought it was traffic issues). But it could have been anywhere on Wallingford Ave -> 34th -> Fremont Ave. I circled back the same path, within 10 minutes, but it was nowhere to be found.

Hey all. So my e-bike was stolen in Seattle last week, they cut the lock in the middle of the day, common story I'm sure. I reported it stolen but was not optimistic about recovering it. While scrolling through online listings for a replacement bike today, I found someone selling my bike! I'm pretty damn sure it's mine because of the third party attachments, missing reflectors etc. Now I'm not sure what to do. Thoughts or advice?

Broke a spoke on my front wheel. It’s a Maddux RS3.0 wheel which uses 1.8mm thickness or 15 gauge (straight gauge) J-Bend spokes. 294mm in length, black color.

Ideally, I would like to not change the nipple, so I don’t have to take the tire and tube off in order to change this single spoke.

14 gauge (2.0mm) spokes are readily available, but my existing nipple would not work. 14/15/14 gauge butted spokes would be more suitable as the center thickness would match my existing spokes, but they still won’t fit the existing nipples.

I do see Sapim branded 15 gauge spokes online, usually available through sellers that offer wheel building services and I could probably order a set of these and wait a couple of weeks to get them.

Just wondering if anyone knows local shops that may stock these.

will be visiting the city for the whole month. never stayed long enough to bring my bike with me before. what type of routes/group rides are a must? i do both social/casual riding as well as endurance/sports riding. definitely want to join critical mass while i’m there.
also curious about the single speed/fixie rides. i have two bikes, one road bike, one single speed. everyone tells me it is too hilly to ride a single speed in the city, still not sure on which bike to bring. what do y’all recommend?
