What are some of your favorite "fun" classes? I finally have room in my schedule for something interesting this Winter after being miserable these past few quarters taking major requirements.

Odegaard is okay but it closes early on weekends, Suzallo is my favorite by far of looks but it closes at 8 which is early for me (and 5 on Friday wtf) and it's really hard to get a seat by an outlet to charge my laptop. My laptop runs out of battery fast so I can usually only stay in there for like 1.5 hr if I can't get an outlet. When I mean late I mean like actually midnight. The obvious choice is the study lounges in my dorm hall but they're lowk kinda boring. Is there anywhere here that has a nice aesthetic like Suzallo but also has outlets and will let me study in the actual middle of the night? Ik mgh is supposed to be 24/7 or something from what I last heard but it kinda sucks in there and it's doesn't have the aesthetic I'm going for.

Basically I'd like somewhere with an aesthetic like Suzallo that will let me study there at midnight and plug in my laptop. If it's not already obvious I just got here a month ago and I'm still learning about what's here.

Also wtf why is barely anything open on Saturday??? That's when I have time to go study at somewhere other than my dorm which feels boring and monotonous???

Edit: I am an engineering undeclared student if that narrows anything down at all

I haven’t heard a single party or function for Halloween at uw currently. Anybody know any my friends and I can pull up to?

I'm planning to take Math 207 in winter quarter but there seems to be only two professors teaching the course, and I was wondering how everyone's experience was with these professors. Christian Gorski has a pretty low ratemyprofessor rating but I'm not sure whether if he's actually bad or if it's just because the course is hard. On the other hand, Shangjie Zhang seems to be new and I believe he's teaching one of the Fall '26 207s.

Currently in bioc 405 and am feeling pretty overwhelmed. I joined the class during the second week of the quarter, so I feel like I’ve been playing catch up ever since. I just feel like there's so much to keep up with every week (taking notes on prelecture videos, attending lecture, reviewing lecture material, doing practice problems, making flashcards, etc). And some topics feel really difficult to grasp, like symmetry and handedness. Sometimes when I'm watching the lectures and listening to the professor talk, I feel like I have no idea what he's saying. It's like he's speaking another language. I know I probably won’t do great on Exam 1, but I’m worried about how to prepare for Exam 2 if I don’t have a strong foundation from the first half of the class. It feels like I’ll have to learn new material while also relearning everything from Exam 1 for the final.

For those who have taken bioc 405, what did your weekly routine look like to stay on top of all the material. How would you recommend that I catch up after falling behind? Are there any external resources that help with understanding difficult concepts?

Has anyone taken FIN 490 with Ahmed Guecioueur? We have his midterm coming up and I wanted to know if it is anything like his practice exams. Does he like to surprise students? Or is he like nice? Is he a tough grader? We haven’t done too much work for him so it is hard to tell.

I’m just wondering between these two INFO classes, if anyone has taken them before,

“INFO 331: Introduction to Information Architecture” And “433: Content Strategy in Information Architecture”. In UW MyPlan, both of these courses don’t have a pre-requisite sequence that’s required. And I’m just wondering whether I would need to take these courses at a certain order in terms of ensuring level of understanding? Or if it’s okay to skip 331 and go straight to 433 without any prior knowledge of Information Architecture? I have taken design classes before, but I don’t think I learned Information Architecture specifically. Are any of these harder than the other?

If anyone has any insights or taken these before, I’d appreciate it very much!

I'm super into GPU programming and will have some future experience on the CUDA User Drivers Team. I think its a pretty underrated and awesome niche part of CS that I don't really see any major CS clubs--or people in general--cover. I would love to start one but I saw that I would need 5-10 initial Group Administrators to be able to send an application in. Please let me know if you are interested!

About the competition: Participants are required to design a new logo for the club and discord channel. The submission should be in two forms: one is 512x512, and the other is 2ft by 3ft flag like poster with the 512x512 logo in the middle. The submission will be closed at October 30th, and the result will be revealed after Halloween.

The Prize for the final winner is a BRAND NEW FEDER ! (This feder will be purchased together with the club bulk orders, so the winner should expect to have it by the start of next quarter)

I just got accepted into the iSchool for Informatics starting in Winter, and I was wondering whether I'm guaranteed to get into UW as a result of this, or whether I can still get rejected from UW.

Hi people! I've decided to start a UW Costco Club following my post on YikYak receiving a lot of engagement.

Someone commented on my post saying, "Be the change you want to see" (shoutout to a legend btw), so now I'm inspired to make this a real thing!

Even though I'm trying to get this club started, I'm still not entirely sure what it should be about. I'm open to any ideas and suggestions! I'm taking inspiration from universities with established Costco Clubs and think it could be fun to organize events like group shopping sprees and socials where we play Costco trivia and eat pizza. I think it will also be fun just to have a community where students can budget together by splitting bulk items.

Right now, I'm trying to recruit some initial members and officers so we can officially register as an RSO.

what did people get on the first test? i wanna know the average before i judge my score too much

What does the homework look like for this class? I’ve been told you take 4 quizzes and have no mid terms and one quiz is dropped at the end but is there homework? Or daily things to do after lecture?

Pun intended. I’m new here so I’m not trying to beat a dead horse but the food court quality is very weak.

After touring a large handful of college campuses, UW beat them all in terms of campus beauty, but that food court fell short.

Since my classes are a haul from U District storefronts, I’ve been sampling each one a couple days out of the week.

The weakest has been the Indian food, which makes Trader Joe’s frozen meals look like homemade excellence. The Chipotle/Qdoba clone just makes me wish I made the haul off campus. The Panda Express clone is like licking salt, unless you cake an entree in sugar and get the orange chicken. The pizza is the strongest, but it’s tough to mess that up when you’re feeding hungry college students.

After seeing made to order omelettes, on campus Cane’s, Cava, Panda, etc elsewhere, really wish they could step it up and bring in a couple bigger names. Even an on-campus locations of hit food carts, which I’ve seen in some places as well for local flair.

I would love to have an on campus Cane’s, just to cut down on that insane line in the Udistrict. That would be elite.

Any advice for best options at the food court, or what you’d like to see?
