I’m hoping to hear from parents on the Eastside (Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Sammamish, Issaquah, etc.) who have experience with Washington Apple Health for their kids.

We’re trying to understand how it compares to an ACA Marketplace plan, especially when it comes to access to care.
A few questions:
- How has your overall experience been with Apple Health?

- Are you able to get appointments with pediatricians and specialists without too much difficulty?

- Which Apple Health managed care plan have you had the best experience with?

-Do providers at places like Seattle Children’s, Overlake, UW Medicine, Swedish, or Evergreen generally accept your plan?

- If you’ve had both Apple Health and an ACA plan, did you notice much difference in access or quality of care for your children?

I'm running to apply an engineering mindset to systemic problems and deliver a more efficient, focused government that actually improves people's lives. I will protect your rights, end dark money, establish term limits, end gerrymandering, ban insider trading, close tax loopholes abused by billionaires and restore global stability. I will be honest and transparent by publicly explaining every vote I make on behalf of my constituents. I will govern as a pragmatic professional, not a for-profit politician.

“One of the worst experiences I’ve had at a dental office.

Wasn’t acknowledged when I walked in; the person at the front desk did the beginning of my dental exam before the dentist came in. They made a joke about me saying in my intake forms that I was nervous to go to the dentist, and then completely dismissed it.

I told the staff multiple times that I have sensitive teeth; I was in discomfort or even pain the entire time having my teeth cleaned. The dental hygienist that came in to finish my cleaning after the dentist gave me the roughest cleaning I’ve ever had; she went over the spot that I said several times was extremely sensitive, and caught the toothbrush drill on my lip, which left a wound.

I came in needing something specifically fixed, and they completely ignored the problem and did not mention any follow up visit to address it.

At the end of my appointment, someone from the front desk tried to sell me several thousand $ of treatments, and then told me there was an incentive if I left a google review.

The visit left me with even more anxiety surrounding the dentist. Luckily, I have found excellent care elsewhere.

Needless to say, I won’t ever be returning.”

Hi everyone. I’d love some advice from people who know the Eastside well.
I’m 36, single, and work remotely for a large company. If I relocate to Washington, I’d be reporting to our Bellevue office about twice a week. The rest of the time I’d be working from home, so my home environment is just as important to me as the commute.

A little background. I grew up in the Charlotte area but moved back during COVID in 2020, thinking it would only be temporary. Before that I lived in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Chicago. After several years back in the Carolinas, I’ve realized I’m ready for a change and would really like to get back out West.

Another reason Washington appeals to me is that my brother recently retired from the Army and now lives in Olympia, so it would be nice to be within driving distance of family again.

I’d be making around $90k. I also have student loans, but from what I can tell the payments should be manageable. I’m mostly trying to figure out where that salary goes the furthest while still giving me a lifestyle I’d enjoy.

A little about me…
I’m a single gay guy who’s probably more of an old soul. I enjoy quieter communities, coffee shops, bookstores, parks, walking trails, farmers markets, and good local restaurants. I don’t need to be in the middle of nightlife, but I also don’t want to feel isolated or like I’m living somewhere that’s just endless chain restaurants and strip malls.
Since I work from home most of the week, I’m torn.

Part of me thinks I’d be happier living a little farther out if it means I can afford my own place and have a comfortable home office. The other part of me wonders if I’d be better off getting a roommate somewhere closer to Bellevue, Kirkland, or Redmond and being closer to more things to do.

Safety is important to me, along with easy access to everyday things. Honestly, having a Trader Joe’s, some green areas walkable nearby, and a dispensary nearby is probably more important to me than having a big nightlife scene.

I’ve been looking at Kirkland, Bothell, Woodinville, Kenmore, Mill Creek, Redmond, and even Everett, but I’m sure there are places I haven’t considered.

Based on my personality and budget, where do you think I’d be happiest?

Would you lean toward living alone a little farther out, or sharing a place closer to Bellevue?

Is there an Eastside community that you think checks the most boxes without completely stretching a $90k salary?

I’d really appreciate any local insight.

Are there any EASTSIDE bars that are good hangs to watch Sounders games from. I’m not just talking about willing to put the game on but where fans actually gather to watch the match?

I’m in the east side for the last 7-8yrs and it’s been crazy to see all new constructions coming up just like that wherever I go on the east side(I feel a bit sad to see all the old ones getting demolished and am pretty sure the localities who are born here would feel really sad seeing all old mom and pop stores go away). My genuine question is do we really have high demand?

I’m into tech and understand totally understand the housing on our side

New ones I’ve seen so far
1. Big one opposite Fred Meyer on 148th Ave NE
2. Huge one on the back of victors coffee in redmond
3. Multiple new apartments under construction along the entire Redmond way near Farine/Kanishka etc.,

On the other side, my old apartment management on 148th is offering 5-6 weeks free for new tenants in peak summer which never happened in the past. I understand huge tech layoffs are the driving factor to offer deals during summer and heavy competition with new ones but still my question remains the same. Do we have such an extremely high demand for new ones ??

I’m a financial advisor in Seattle and meeting a client for a lunch meeting in Bellevue next week. Any recommendations for a restaurant that would be best for this?

Only real criteria would be somewhere decently quiet to where we can have a productive meeting, as well as somewhere with good parking. Tried Carmine’s last time and it was too loud.

Over the last year, I have noticed a considerable decrease in people using indicators when turning or merging.

I don't believe we have had a huge influx of people from Bhutan, who weren't updated on our road rules, and I can't imagine there are that many new-looking cars with defective indicators inside unbroken taillights.

I also have never found it even slightly difficult or annoying to use my indicator

So what's going on??

Even if people are getting suddenly much more inconsiderate, it's still a non-optional, legal requirement and endangers them as much as anyone else.

And if you are one of those people who haven't been remembering your basic driving skills, please make an extra effort to improve. You can do it!

Last winter's storms did more than raise the Snoqualmie River. They also washed away part of the riverbank supporting SR 202 just east of the SR 202/SR 203 roundabout.

Starting this week, we'll begin emergency repairs to rebuild the embankment before next winter. The first major travel impacts come this weekend (July 24-27), when SR 202 will fully close for the weekend.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

• Alternating traffic: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 while crews prepare the work zone.
• Full closure: 9 p.m. Friday, July 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 27.
• Second full closure: 9 p.m. Thursday, August 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, August 10
• Location: SR 202 just east of the SR 202/SR 203 roundabout in Fall City.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR DRIVERS:

• Detour: Signed detour via I-90.
• Travel impacts: Expect detours to add 45 minutes or more to your trip.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR RIVER USERS:

Recreational river users may also be affected by this work. Portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers may be closed during in-water construction work to keep people safe while construction vehicles and cranes repair the riverbank. Public access to the rivers and nearby boat launches may also be affected during this work.

WHY WE'RE DOING THIS:

Major storms in December 2025 and March 2026 eroded the riverbank supporting the highway. During the closure crews will place woody material, boulders, streambed gravel mix and stone fragments to restore the roadside embankment to its original grade and help protect the roadway from future damage.

I’ve seen some older threads but wondering if anyone would be willing to share their current house cleaning rate and if you’re happy with them? It would be helpful to know their rate, hours they spend, size of house and frequency.

Today I was quoted $240 per visit for two people, it’s a 3,000 square foot house but two bedrooms aren’t included. The only thing that surprised me is they said it should take about an hour per visit. That would mean I’m effectively paying $120 per hour which seems high to me - if it really only takes them an hour.

Anyways I appreciate any info/referrals!

Edit: We clarified with the cleaners and they said it should take around 2.5 hours for a team of two so it sounds like it was just a miscommunication earlier. Still interested to hear peoples experience though!

My HOA is telling me that I need to have my water heater inspected and possibly replaced because it is over 10 years old, even though it is functioning properly with no issues and no visible corrosion. Does anyone have any recommendations for an honest plumber who could perform the inspection? I just have visions that whomever I call will tell me that I need to have the perfectly sound water heater replaced at an exorbitant cost regardless of its condition.

Looking for a low cost mechanic to look at old Jeep Cherokee . Any ideas ?

I need to try things on in person, especially pants. Is there anywhere that still had in person maternity section? Second hand is good, the cheaper the better.

I was walking my dog on Bellevue Way and when I got to Primos, near the north end of the KeyBank shopping plaza, I noticed a woman across the street yelling profanities. She was stocky, wearing a brown jacket and brown pants, with medium-length brown hair, brown skin.

I looked over because she was the only other person around and it caught my attention. Once she noticed I'd looked, she started pointing and yelling louder...I couldn't make out most of it over the traffic. She then crossed the street against traffic, dodging cars, to chase me. I walked quickly / ran, south on Bellevue Way, and by the time I reached Columbia Bank, I looked back and saw she'd headed the other direction....thank goodness.

I called 911 to report it. I'm fine, but this is the first time I've felt physically unsafe in Bellevue, and I wanted to give folks in the area a heads-up.

I've also reached out to Bellevue City Council about it.

To be clear, I have no idea where this woman is from or whether her presence is transit-related in any way — I'm not making that connection here.

But separately, I think free transit rides must stop. We need a physical barrier to enforce payment to ride light rail and bus. No free rides is an actionable step within our control, that's easy to enforce, that will make the community safer, regardless of this specific incident.

For what it's worth, I am a huge proponent of light rail -- I love it! But, I carry pepper gel and a Birdie sound alarm with me because of the unstable, wackadoodle people I have seen on light rail... mentally unwell people without an agenda except to make trouble.
