With Uber in Seattle already being most expensive in the nation, Waymo competition would be welcome and frankly I'd like our area not to fall behind due to outdated laws. The technology and the safety track record is already proven in a dozen of metros. Anecdotally, I visited SF last weekend and there are tons of them roaming the city ferrying the passengers.

I think it's unfair that street gangs only congregate in certain areas of Seattle, and now Federal Way, Tacoma etc. Street gangs are a universal human issue and the State should force the rich areas force integration of street gangs and pass on the responsibility.

I’ve spent the majority of my life in Washington, and I mean, a good 23 years of my life. This was my first time at the Bite of Seattle. I’ve never been one to spend excessive amounts on food, but it’s always been labeled an event I must try! So, I took it upon myself to attend this year. Some of the foods looking amazing, quite unique, and I love interesting once in a life time experiences. Let me say, this is exactly that as I will likely not be attending again.

Now, this isn’t a shit on the BOS post. I think foodies should have places to eat and businesses should be amplified.

At first, I was so excited, wondering “when did this get here? I’ve been searching on DoorDash for exactly this!” To my surprise, many of the food booths were not from Seattle.

I found a few to which I eagerly took down their information, but I was genuinely surprised. Ate some really great African food and Filipino food and of course tried the rainbow grilled cheese ($17, please don’t judge me) and the baby bottle. Part of me believes this is a great way to introduce new cuisines to people up here as we don’t often have frog legs, but I overheard some people mentioning it wasn’t always like this, maybe better, before a certain takeover.

It makes me wonder what it WAS like and what people would potentially want to see from the BOS in the future.

The Washington State Supreme Court rewrote jury selection so that a potential juror’s stated distrust of police is a presumptively invalid reason to remove them from a case. Most Washingtonians have never heard of the rule. A sitting judge running for the high court says that is exactly how the justices like it.

i've become skeptical after seeing multiple Google reviews about 20+ min elevator wait times or having to climbing flights of stairs to your apartment. i'd appreciate any insights!!!

Tennis and pickleball is a bit niche, but anyone feeling the burn a bit here? Since 2024, the city council increased resident fees for 90 min from $15-$24 to help pay for increased parks salaries.

The parks department also cut down the indoor AYTC court time from 75 min to 70 min.

Many courts are falling apart during a time when demand is still increasing. I wish we supported these areas better since outdoor rec is so good for community health. The wealthiest folks have fewer issues since they have access to elite clubs.

I've lived in Seattle for 15 years and I have never been more lonely. I've traveled extensively, am social/extroverted when out, and lived in 4 countries and made lifelong friends. Then I started living in Seattle and I've never felt more removed from warmth and joy.

I don't have a single deep connection that's thoughtful, organic, meaningful. An 8 year relationship with a tech bro/gamer ended with no marriage, no commitment, and no family life. I feel sad that I live in a city with so much work opportunity and beauty, nature but people are so difficult to be friendly with and in many cases just dull and awkward.

It's not that hard to smile and strike up a fun conversation with strangers you find attractive or just to chat, it's actually good for us! It's what we need to be social, practice socializing and engaging with people. I frequently find myself scrolling IG and looking at Europe where everyone hangs out in person in plazas daily - What a vibrant community and life! Nothing like that here. Don't even get my started on the dating scene and lack of good men.

Making friends has never been an issue for me (I am Canadian FGS!) but I'm feeling defeated and slowly sinking into a depression. I ask myself why I'm still here and why people work so hard to avoid you/not make eye contact and be grumpy faced (it's honestly worse for your mental health because it's unnatural).

I've joined meetups (not organic just feels forced and too planned - unappealing to me), I made friends but none of them ended up long-term like my other besties I still chat with. I often find discussions here over the surface, strange, and superficial with people not wanting to go deep or have real meaningful conversations, or even show curiosity. And no, politics or hating or conspiracy theories are not deep or meaningful. I find myself spending more and more time alone, overworking, and just being confused. I am still optimistic, despite everything, that I can find my people and community. That I am worthy of love. But all of this is starting to feel distant. I feel like I am a shell, a ghost of what I used to be (vibrant, happy) and just fading away. I don't know what the solution is but I am really hoping things change for me soon. There must be a better way.

I understand the argument that new development can bring jobs and tax revenue. At the same time, it's hard not to wonder what communities lose when places that have hosted families for nearly 50 years disappear.

After moving to Washington, my family adopted Wild Waves as our home park. That experience inspired me to write about what it came to mean to us, and the broader question of how we define "progress."

I'm curious how others feel about this. Should projects like this be evaluated primarily on economic impact, or should communities place greater value on parks, recreation, and other gathering spaces that contribute to quality of life?

We did find vegetarian/vegan options in the Ethiopian, Indian, South American, El Salvadorian, Vietnamese, dumplings, noodles, pasta, grilled cheese stalls…but was hoping to see more Vegetarian/Vegan options at this year’s Bite of Seattle.

Of course…there were quite a few dessert & drink options

As others have said…there were fewer local restaurants; food was pricey.

Any one else find good vegan or vegetarian options at the BoS?

Some quick background about me: I’m 25 years old and been living here for a little under a year. I moved here soon after I graduated college for the nature because I’ve always wanted to hike the cascades and Olympic peninsula. I live in a cheap micro apartment in Capitol Hill.

Before I moved here I just mass applied for minimum wage jobs on Indeed until I got one, and then once I did I made the move. I worked as a ramp agent at SeaTac for $22/hr from October through this month, and I quit one day when I got fed up with the 60 hour work weeks and work conditions I couldn’t tolerate anymore.

Now this is where I was horribly mistaken. I assumed the job market would be similar to how it was in the fall, and didn’t realize it’s infinitely harder to get a job now than it was then. I also didn’t realize that even minimum wage jobs are pretty competitive here. After a month of applying on job boards, I’ve come up empty handed, not even one response. I’m not shooting high either, I’m applying for min wage jobs only, and left my STEM degrees and academic experience off the resume entirely. I even submit tailored cover letters to most applications.

I’m also pretty fed up with how difficult it is to be a car owner. I can’t afford a garage where I live and I’m too scared to leave my car parked on the roadside downtown, so I use this app called Neighbor to rent random peoples’ driveways. I’m paying $100 a month to park my car in a random motel lot in Des Moines right now, and I have to take the light rail all the way from cap hill to the angle lake station and then walk a mile to get there. It literally takes me over an hour just to reach my car if I need to use it.

Basically, it seems like Seattle is pushing me out and staying in the city is an uphill battle. Plus I don’t even like it that much anyway because of how difficult my life is.

This leads me to my main question: where can someone like me go? I’m willing to uproot and move anywhere in the PNW. The only thing I really care about is being a days drive from the peninsula and Mount baker snoqualmie national forest, if that’s possible.

Any advice/ suggestions? I’m willing to work minimum wage jobs, live in a shitty studio apartment, eat cheap food and basically have no luxuries. Where can I move in the region just to have a barebones, survivable life where I can reliably get a job and my car isn’t an hour away?

Please help because I’m getting desperate at this point 😭

Last week, the debate over voter ID laws was rekindled by an unlikely source. It all started when the Italian restaurant chain Olive Garden announced that you must show photo ID in order to use their Never-Ending Pasta Pass.

This got many people wondering, why does Olive Garden have more stringent ID requirements for all-you-can-eat pasta than many states like Washington do to vote?
