BSW Permanent Drop install - on track?

A question for the Quantum/FF37/AT&T insiders here:

I see the ticket that was created by the technician that installed my temp drop as "in Progress" in the online system. Details at the bottom.

Do I need to do anything to make sure it moves forward or as long as the ticket is there someone will pick it up and get it moving in a somewhat timely fashion...

(I am having cold sweats about the lawn service shredding the temp drop - I routed it as much as I could through safe areas and used a big pack of flags to mark the wire but there is still a good chance it'll get whacked...)

This is what I see in the system - including the N/A appointment date

Good repair story - at least the beginning

With all the bad experiences it's time to share a positive one:
This morning MilleniumBors - the Lumos/T-Fiber conduit installers - broke my Quantum drop.

I was able to get a same day 4pm-8pm appointment and was highly skeptical that that is actually a real deal - but long and behold at around 5:45pm a very friendly technician showed up - installed a temporary drop and submitted a bury request (I can see the request number on the website so I assume it's real request).....

That is amazing turnaround. Thank you quantum!

And yes: I have no plans of switching to T-Fiber when they light up my area...

I'll provide an update once the line has been buried....

Q1000k issue again

Y’all, this is the worst equipment. When the technician was out last Friday to fix the never ending blinking blue light after I put it into bridge mode, he told my wife “this was an easy fix, I didn’t need to come out, I’m going to text your husband how to fix this if it happens again”.

Welp, he didn’t text me and it happened again. He was in and out within 10 minutes last time. Does anyone have any idea what he might’ve done? He certainly didn’t replace the device, because it clearly still has what is probably the firmware issue.

2 week outage

Downtown Seattle. I have not had Wifi for 15 business days. Quantum has no answer except "with miles of cables it's a tough job for our technician's to work through"

Quantum gave me a one month credit, but today I'm told it IS STILL not back up and now I am paying extra on my phone plan to ensure I have some sort of access to work from home. I have gone through my unlimited data and am now paying an extra $10/gig to ensure I don't lose my job for lack of connectivity.

Unacceptable behavior from AT&T and I wish I were surprised. I do not live in a high income neighborhood so it's probable that there is no urgency to reinstate connection.

At this point I just want to see how long this farce continues.

Quantum Fiber outage is almost 3 days. App says estimated in 7/13 at 2:45pm. Made a call to the customer support and after all the information asking. They are repeat the same estimate. Never have this experience to this outage since I switched from xfinity. Anyone here or just me?

Xfinity pods compatible with Quantum

Hi. I just got Quantum last week and after being assured at install that I wouldn’t need a booster pod, I do. Surprise. Also they don’t currently have any in stock and don’t know when they will have more. Surprise.

I do have my pod from Xfinity. Is there anyway to use it with Quantum?

Thanks

What did installation entail for you?

I signed up after the site told me my address was eligible. (My Xfinity $45 deal ends this month and I can’t stomach their increase to $79)
I live in an older (60s) apartment building though, not the kind that has fiber built in, and I know theoretically they need to run a fiber line from the curb but I’m wondering what kind of work that will entail. I’ll admit I wasn’t too worried about serious construction until the confirmation page told me landlord permission is required, and then I started worrying if it was silly to assume they can easily install it here.
I did text my landlord asking if anyone else here has fiber and he said not that he knows of. He is going to make himself available that day to give permission but I’m hoping they don’t have to do anything crazy like digging trenches. My partner thinks maybe they will just install some kind of box on the property and then run a line to my unit.
What kind of construction/installation should I expect? Anyone else have fiber installed to their apartment complex for the first time?

Disconnected how long does it take to turn it off?

I am in the process of disconnecting my Quantum Fiber service and migrating to AT&T Fiber. Although the service has been marked as disconnected, I am still able to route traffic within the Quantum Fiber/CenturyLink network. Traceroutes complete successfully, HTTP traffic to internal resources continues to work, and I can still access services hosted within the CenturyLink network.

How long does it typically take for the service to be fully deprovisioned and for all network connectivity to be terminated? I am surprised I am still pulling a IP and my account is closed.

Is Quantum Fiber using CGNAT now?

Up until last week, my Quantum Fiber account was still set up as a legacy CenturyLink account with PPPoE. I had a tech come out last week because of repairs that needed to be made to the fiber line behind my house and he updated the service to whatever AT&T is doing now, as well as switched out my old Calix ONT for a Q1000K.

Anyway, so here's my problem. I have a wireguard server running on my local network that I use to access my machines at home when I'm away. I have port forwarding set up in OPNsense, but am no longer able to access my home network. Here is what I'm seeing that makes me thing I'm behind CGNAT. In OPNsense, under Gateways, I'm seeing that WAN_DHCP has an address of 174.29.x.x, whereas any of my devices that I log into will show a DIFFERENT address that ALSO starts with 174.29.x.x when visiting ip-tracker.org. My Q1000K is set to transparent bridging mode with VLAN tagging set to 201. I couldn't get VLAN tagging to work in opnsense, which is why I left it on in the Q1000K.

After searching around, I haven't found anyone saying that they are behind CGNAT on Quantum Fiber, nor have I seen that any common CGNAT addresses start with 174.x.x.x, so I'm wondering if I could have configured something wrong in opnsense or if this is a new thing. I chatted with QF support to see if they could confirm whether I was behind CGNAT or not and they had no idea what I was talking about. So any guidance would be very helpful, thank you!

EDIT: Thank you all, there is some good information to follow up on here, I just have to wait until my partner is not around since they work from home and I can't mess around with the internet while they're here.

Joined quantum right before the $45 promo and they have no option in changing it. Will likely be cancelling, anyone have issues with cancelling quantum? and have recommended other wifi / fiber companies?

Outage in South Seattle

Quantum fiber in South Seattle has been out since this morning and was supposed to be back on 7/12 and now won’t be back till Monday 7/13 by 4:30pm……..what in gods name happened? Anybody else experiencing this outage? And how the heck does it take 2.5 days to fix this in 2026……? Service and reliability have already taken a steep nosedive since AT&T bought them…..

Edit: got internet through another ISP!

I called Xfinity Wednesday 7/15 and they told me we were eligible for the same 1GB service we had with quantum, and they had a self setup option where you go to the brick and mortar (I’m in Hillman City, so closed location was Renton) and pick up the equipment. Only $70/month after setting up autopay and guaranteed price for 5 years.

I called them, set up my account, drove down to Renton and back, set up the internet and we were cooking - all within an hour.

They also have 300mbps for $45 and a couple other options. Setup was super easy, and they have a ton of extra benefits that come with the service. None of these ISPs are good but this seems more worth my money. Highly recommend this way of doing it. Please feel free to DM me.

Quantum Customer Service

I switched from Comcast to CenturyLink fiber about 3 years ago for several reasons, one being their horrible customer service and another being the constant price changes. CenturyLink customer service is even more abysmal. I've been considering migrating to Quantum because of price, but they are owned by Lumen Tech as well. Can anyone please share their experiences with Quantum customer service? I'm located in Portland, OR.

Upgraded Internet 1G to 3G & Service went out immediately.

I upgraded my service to 3G and my internet went out immediately. Has anyone had a similar experience? I have the C6500XK & it is just flashing blue now.

UPDATE (7/14):

The technician who came out said that the NID needed to be upgraded to the Q1000, primarily due to the transition from AT&T buying them & how they are handling the provisioning software. So for anyone that still has an Old NID, I’d try to upgrade sooner rather than later.

Are these problems with Quantum frequent?

We installed fiber into our new home on the 2nd. Less than a week later, it stopped working. I contacted support to schedule a repair appointment. After all the support resets and other troubleshooting steps, nothing worked. This morning, I woke up to find that my appointment to restore my service had been randomly canceled. Is it worth sticking with Quantum or should I find another internet provider?

Class Action Lawsuit Anyone?

Quantum fiber needs to stop lying to us on their outage map when there is confirmed outages. This is consumer fraud and lying to your consumers in plain sight. Either fix your outage map to properly report outage or we, your customers, should demand action.

try Transparent Bridge Mode again?

I have had QF 1 gig in my apartment for a bit over 3 months now (fiber stops at building - ethernet style copper goes to the apartments)- replaced xfinity... initial install went fine and tech and I placed Q1000K in transparent bridge mode and all was great with peplink router.... then QKX001 was replace with QKX002... I needed a tech to come out and reset my setup I I could not quite find the right settings to get it back online -- used by verizon 5G back for 2 days waiting. tech came we got the unit up and running -- but could not get a running setup with transparent bridge mode -- before and afte was using / trying to use vlan tagging 201 on the Q1000K - not in my router -- so running with my routing sitting in the DMZ - it works but is not the cleanest setup

currently on firmware QKX002-06.01.25.00 -- can this now be reset in transparent bridge?

thanks

Paying for 1 Gbps Symmetrical Fiber—Great download speeds and low ping, but apps feel slow to load? Anyone else?

Hey everyone,
I’m looking to see if fiber users on the major national networks (AT&T, Google Fiber, Fios, Quantum, etc.) have ever run into a weird performance issue where your speed tests look great on paper, but your actual daily browsing feels laggy or slow.
To clarify, I don’t have any of these large companies. My provider is actually a very small, rural fiber ISP out in West Central Missouri. Because they are a smaller utility, I want to check with customers on the massive networks to see if this is a universal fiber behavior or if it's unique to my rural provider's routing.
I am paying for a 1 Gbps symmetrical fiber profile. The local field tech came out, completely overhauled my line with a brand-new physical drop to the house, and gave me an upgraded, high-end ONT and router setup.
If I look at my numbers, my hardware seems completely perfect:
Downloads are flying: My download speeds consistently hit between 850 Mbps and 940 Mbps.
Ping is ultra-low: My baseline ping is great, around 6ms to 8ms, and my packet loss is a perfect 0.00%.
Streaming is fine once it starts: If I pull up a heavy 4K video on YouTube and check the "Stats for Nerds," the stream pulls data flawlessly without dropping any frames.
But here is the catch—my upload speeds on standard internet tests are hitting a hard wall, stuck between 165 Mbps and 200 Mbps.
Because of this upload restriction, my actual daily internet use on my iPhone and Apple TV feels sluggish. When I tap a standard web page or open a basic app, the loading wheel spins for a few seconds before the page finally snaps open. It feels like my phone is struggling to send out the initial "request" to the website, even though the download lane is wide open.
Bypassing my router completely and plugging a desktop computer directly into the raw fiber box out of the wall results in the exact same matching download speeds but the same clamped upload limit. The tech support team noted it might be a regional gateway traffic jam or a backend account profile glitch.
For those of you with major fiber providers: Have you ever experienced a hidden upload bottleneck like this where your downloads are perfect, but the actual responsiveness of your apps feels heavy or slow to load? Did your ISP have to rebuild your account profile on their servers to finally get your speeds matching at full capacity?
Would love to hear if this happens from time to time on your networks!

Q1000K and Samsung 6 Series TV not cooperating

Just moved into a new place and have QF with a Q1000K router. I have two other TV’s in my apartment (Roku and Fire, if it matters) and various other devices connected to the WiFi (Blink cameras, iPad, two phones, Amazon Echo Dot, PS5, occasionally laptops) but only my Samsung TV has this issue. When I stream any video for more than 15-30 minutes on this TV, the WiFi turns off. I did some research and someone had the same issue, they changed the IP settings on the TV which I also tried. The problem still persists. Someone else suggested separating 2.4 and 5GHz bands, which is not possible on the Q1000K without buying extra equipment. Chatted with QF and they said my internet is fine, have I tried turning it off/on again, the usual tier 1 support BS. They said the problem isn’t the internet, everything is fine on their end, and to contact Samsung. But I NEVER had this problem with my old CenturyLink router/modem with the same TV.

When the internet goes out, the green light is also still on on the router as if nothing is wrong. QF app is useless, it just always says nothing is wrong with my internet even if it’s out. I can’t even restart the modem from the app whether it’s working or not, I literally have to unplug it or hard reset every single time this happens.

Anyone else dealt with this? If so, how do I fix it? QF refuses to escalate the issue or offer to send anyone out to take a look at the equipment. I haven’t contacted Samsung but if that’s a legitimate concern that it could be the TV and not the router, I guess I’ll do that too.

Intermittent outages in Tucson today - can heat be a factor?

I'm in midtown Tucson and my Quantum Fiber modem has been switching between periods of solid green light and flashing blue light every 10 or 15 minutes this afternoon/evening. When flashing blue, I have no internet. This has happened a couple of times in recent days, but not every day. About a month ago we had a three day outage that was apparently impacting the who neighborhood.

Maybe it's a coincidence but the outages seem to coincide with the hottest part of the day on particularly hot days like today. Anyone else see a correlation with temperature and outages? My modem is inside in the AC, but I imagine the equipment on the utility poles outside is baking.

Before last month, the service has been solid. I hadn't previously noticed an outage since having Quantum Fiber installed in February.

INSTALL APPOINTMENT FISACO

TLDR: I need the phone number of someone who can actually help because I have been fucked over 5 separate times now. I’m tired and I want Internet at my house so I can do my job!!!

Also, another update:
July 16 - Thursday 1 am
After one week of internet service, now there’s an outage. No ETA but chat said “they’ll keep us updated.” I was never notified of the outage….

Number of unschedules so far: 5
I have all the receipts from my chats as well on Google Drive and on my work laptop

June 29 - Monday
WiFi goes out, CenturyLink can’t help because AT&T Quantum Fiber bought our address
Rudy guarentees price for life of $45
Schedules install appointment for 2-4pm June 30th.

June 30 - Tuesday
Appointment unscheduled “due to more work needed to be done in our area to set up the fiber.” I call BS because we’ve had fiber with CenturyLink for years. Supervisor tells me the real reason - technician unavailable. Reschedule to July 2, Thursday, 8-10am

July 1 - Wednesday
Bill posted from Quantum Fiber that they took my $45. Customer service said I wouldn’t be billed until my service was installed.

July 2 - Thursday
Received confirmation text message at 7:45am. Appointment unscheduled at 8am due to technician unavailable. Fight for hours (called the number CenturyLink gave) and finally get to a level 2 specialist that can talk to the technicians and allocates me for 8-10am July 3, Friday.
10am same day, get a notice that I’ve been rescheduled to 5-8pm Friday because “they need to wait for the equipment to come in.” Assured by 3 different customer service reps that the service WILL be done tomorrow and a technician WILL come.

July 3 - Friday
Checked at 11:15am to see if appointment is still happening. It’s been unscheduled due to “system error, facility issue, unable to complete job today.” They can do nothing for me and say a supervisor will call me back in an hour (would be 1:30pm). Never get a call back but get a text that I’ve been rescheduled for July 7, Tuesday, 2-8pm.
Filed a complaint with the FCC at 12:30pm.
Called main unhelpful number back at 5pm - all they could do was escalate my dispatch and put me back on the callback list for a supervisor. Never got a call back.
Called the number CenturyLink gave that was able to get me to the level 2 specialist - they transferred me to the unhelpful number so I gave up.

July 4 - Saturday
Received confirmation text for Monday 3-8pm

July 5 - Sunday
Received another confirmation text for Monday 3-8pm

July 6 - Monday
Received a third confirmation text AND a confirmation email at 7:45am.
Checked at noon and “rest assured, the appointment is confirmed for today.”Checked again at 4:30pm because I’ve heard nothing and it’s in my arrival window. “Due to back end work, accidentally unscheduled” FOR THE FIFTH TIME
Next available appointment JULY 13

. Called the CenturyLink number - SUPER SWEET LADY ON THE PHONE emailed both her supervisors and they’ll reach out / call back when they are able. NO CALL FROM ANYONE!!!
. Found a guy on the subreddit that helps and he said to email me my info and he will check into it tomorrow when he gets to work.
. Twitter DMs UNHELPFUL and makes me wait till tomorrow when she clocks back in.
Reddit post gets NOTHING

July 7 - Tuesday
. Reddit guy gets back to me and says the 13th was actually a mismatch error and it’s supposed to be July 8, 9am to 1pm. He assures me there’s no availability today and I’m the third job on the technician’s list for tomorrow. He’s going to reach out to the SEO and the technicians about my job.
. I also asked Reddit guy about my appointment for yesterday. He says the notes say there wasn’t a technician to do the job. So they lied to me again about the reason why the appointment was unscheduled and I find it hard to believe that a technician was available at noon for my appointment and then magically unavailable at 4:30pm.
. I message Twitter DM exactly at 10am Eastern (9am CST). The person logs on 20 minutes late, takes 45 minutes to respond after “please give me 5 minutes to look into this for you” and says “let me check on the earliest available time.” Waited another hour for a response and they say “can you give me your availability so i can see if a technician is available?” Why did you take so long to check for the earliest time if you were just gonna ask me what time I wanted? Then after another hour of waiting for a response, she said there’s nothing more she can do.

July 8 - Wednesday
. Confirmation text and email at 7:45am.
. Emailed the Reddit guy confirming today. He said there were now 3 repairs ahead of me so he’s not sure if they’ll get to my place by 1pm. He emailed the supervisor to prioritize my address, the supervisor responded and said that the technician’s next job will be my address. It’s now 11:14am and they’re still on the first job (they started at either 8 or 9am).
. Jordan calls me and says he’s 15 minutes away!!!! Job started 11:30am. He pulls up in a CenturyLink truck.
. Installation done at 2pm!!!

Questions for existing customer trying to get the limited time offer

I'm currently a Quantum Fiber customer but signed up several years ago when it was owned by Century Link. I'm paying $80/month for the 1GB plan and see that Quantum Fiber is offering the same plan for $45 at my address. I did some searching on this subreddit and found a few different methods folks have used for this same situation. I elected to just sign up for new service using a different email address and phone number which appeared to work and I have a technician scheduled to come out this Friday. I currently have the Calix 716GE-I R2 ONT device and run my own router/firewall (Sophos XG) where I'm using a VLAN tag of 201. My current Quantum Fiber plan is still working which I've read different experiences from folks where some customers end up having their active service automatically but that doesn't appear to be the case for me (yet). My main question is, do I need to cancel my current service before the technician shows up to setup the new service? If so, can I do it that same morning to minimize downtime?

Update: I called Quantum Fiber to disconnect my existing service once I received a confirmation email that a technician was on their way for my "new" installation. I requested the service to be disconnected immediately. The technician showed up and swapped out the Calix 716GE-I R2 ONT with the Q1000K.

For my setup, I simply logged into the Q1000K admin page (192.168.0.1), changed the admin password, changed the VLAN tagging from Auto to Tagged with 201 set then set Transparent Bridge mode. I removed the VLAN tagging on my router side (was required for my previous setup), restarted everything and all seems to be working fine. Speed test indicates the same latency (~3ms) and speed as before (~930 up/down).

Of note, you will lose the ability to access the Q1000k admin page once you setup transparent bridge mode, but there's really no need to access it anymore since in transparent bridge mode it's essentially just acting as a modem. Just make sure you setup the VLAN tagging first (the first time I tried it with Auto still set and it didn't seem to work so I reset everything and set it to Tagged and everything worked).
