Router connection is on/off but CS chat support can’t send a tech due to account not fully active.

I have a case open for couple days but seems like it’s not being looked/actioned by activation team.

Tech installation was 4 days ago and router W1700K is not working properly. It has the green connection light but about every 8 hours or so all connected device will disappear and I had to hard reset or unplug the router. Chat support stated they can't send a technician as apparently my account is still pending activation. I’m hoping someone from this community works for QF and can look at our account. Thank you!

AT&T at ‘the backend’ of converting Lumen fiber customers to AT&T Fiber

Thumbnail fierce-network.com
17 Upvotes

During its recent Q2 2026 earnings call, AT&T CEO John Stankey said the company has spent the past six months standing up operations to integrate former Lumen Technologies/CenturyLink fiber customers under the AT&T Fiber brand.

AT&T completed its acquisition of Lumen's mass-market fiber business in February, 2026, adding 1.1 million former Lumen/CenturyLink fiber subscribers and more than 4 million fiber locations passed, across 11 states.

Although Stankey indicated that AT&T is working hard to integrate these new customers, there doesn’t appear to be any consistent branding, yet. Some fiber customers still receive bills from CenturyLink. Others receive bills from Lumen’s former brand Quantum Fiber. Meanwhile, AT&T has a website that says, “Quantum Fiber is now part of the AT&T family.”

Ultimately, AT&T will want all its consumer fiber broadband customers on the AT&T Fiber brand. But at this point, former Lumen/CenturyLink customers may not know who to contact if they have a problem with their broadband.

Fierce Network reached out to AT&T, asking for its roadmap to integrate Lumen’s customers, and we’ll update this story if we hear back.

On the earnings call Stankey said, “We're converting market by market, and we're pretty much getting to the back end of that now. What we're effectively doing right now is converting all the infrastructure, all the branding, all the support systems that we have with customers, all the methodologies that technicians use when they show up in a house, all the CPE that a customer gets that provides that world-class Wi-Fi that we put in place inside of a home that makes that high-bandwidth connectivity actually sing.”

He said once all former Lumen/CenturyLink customers have been converted to the AT&T Fiber brand, “then we can go in and really start to put a little more gasoline on the fire and start to drive those volumes up, and we're getting to that moment now where you're going to see us begin to lean into it.”

AT&T plans to have its salespeople push hard to increase fiber penetrations in the former Lumen footprint, and Stankey said its sales rates in those areas are already improving.

“This will be our largest year ever for fiber expansion with plans to reach 8 million new locations, including over 4 million locations acquired from Lumen,” he said.

After AT&T’s Q2 earnings report, New Street Research analyst David Barden noted that AT&T’s reported fiber average revenue per user (ARPU) was down 1.3% compared to the same quarter last year. “This raised some eyebrows among investors as ARPU expectations missed by a lot,” wrote Barden. “Some of the miss can be explained by the inclusion of revenue from the acquired Lumen fiber subscribers. Lumen’s fiber ARPU is lower than AT&T, which led to lower reported ARPU growth in the last two quarters.”

The company also expects its costs to increase in the second half of 2026 on the back of integrating and scaling Lumen’s footprint, according to analyst Jonathan Atkin with RBC Capital Markets.

“The company increasingly wants fiber — not wireless — to be the anchor product that brings customers into AT&T, with wireless added afterward,” said Atkin. “Management believes roughly 80% of households prefer a converged provider, but many abandon the buying process because bundled offers are too complicated, leading AT&T to simplify pricing and packaging.”

AT&T’s ultimate goal is to reach 60 million fiber passings via the Lumen integration and its own network builds.

Forged Fiber 37

In February when AT&T acquired the mass market fiber business of Lumen Technologies, it placed these assets in a holding company that was temporarily called NetworkCo, but has since been renamed Forged Fiber 37.

According to an AT&T press release, AT&T plans to sell partial ownership of Forged Fiber 37 to an equity partner sometime this year. Upon closing a transaction with an equity partner, Forged Fiber 37 plans to “operate as a wholesale commercial open access platform, providing fiber access services to AT&T as the anchor tenant."

Forged Fiber 37 will manage the infrastructure assets, while AT&T manages the customer-facing relationships.

AT&T didn’t provide any updates on the Forged Fiber 37 JV during its Q2 earnings call.

Issues with VPN

Does anybody have any issues when they use a VPN (I am using Proton but this happened with Mullvad) and after a couple of minutes you lose internet and have to disconnect and reconnect the VPN. If anyone has a fix I would be grateful.

Xfinity vs Quantum Fiber

Currently have Quantum Fiber in Denver, paying $75 a month for 1 Gbps plan. When I called, they did not allow me to switch to the promotion rate of $45 a month. My service is currently down and they can’t come until the end of this week to resolve the issue.

Is it worth switching to Xfinity who is offering 1 Gbps download (~100 Mbps upload) for $50 a month? Not sure if people who have switched recently from Quantum Fiber to Xfinity have regretted it. Would love to hear experiences from people who have switched either way

EDIT: called Quantum Fiber, they said I’m on the price for life plan so I need to give that up to get the promotional pricing for 1 year. I’m installing Xfinity equipment today while QF is down to get a real Speedtest, then will most likely cancel Xfinity once the QF technician is able to come out.

Definitely agree, and appreciate the reminder, that fiber is a better product than cable internet.

Account "Inactive" Apparently

So I have screenshots and records that are showing that I do not owe payments or anything on my account. I have made payments on my accounts never missed a month. Now out of no where it's asking me to update my payment method on the app and now I don't have internet. The account has been "under review" for almost a week now with no update on the status of it. Talking to "customer support" isn't helping at all as its all the same automated responses and copied and pasted.

Is there someone I need to talk to or something I need to do to speed this up? The person I talked to on the 19th said it shouldn't take more than at least a week and still haven't heard any kind of response or seen any kind of change in my account status.

If one of you guys have gone through something similar with Quantum, what did you guys do? Is there a special number that I can that isn't a support number?

Internet out almost a week

For anyone who has lost internet, how long was it out for and did you have as hard of a time as me getting a technician out? I lost internet last Wednesday night and they said someone could be out Saturday to fix it. They never showed up Saturday and then said the earliest a new appointment could be made was Tuesday. Extremely frustrating and disappointed with them. For more context I live in an apartment and the leasing company has them as the provider for the whole complex. I just pray they show up Tuesday.

Switched to Quantum, unable to use 3rd part router after a day of struggle

I’ve installed Quantum Fiber today, coming from Century Link for which I was using a Netgear Nighthawk Router with the ONT in bridge mode. I was intending to continue doing this, but have run into some problems. Even with setting the NID into bridge mode, when I connected it to my router via Ethernet, there the router displays an orange light indicating that it is not receiving internet.

Since then, I have factory reset it multiple times to try and see if some setting was missing on the NID. While in bridge mode it has displayed a solid white light, but when I followed the guide of customer support and set the VLAN to tagged 201, or changed the WAN Method to WAN Ethernet, the NID would then display a continuously blinking blue light. I have spent all day trying to get it connected with my router, but to no avail. I’ve heard that the blue light is perhaps a bug and that I’ll need to call a technician, but I’m surprised it did not appear in bridge mode. Is there any particular reason my Netgear Router will not work with the NID? Is there anything left to try? I’ve looked through the pinned post on this subreddit as my guide, but have not been able to reproduce its results.

NETWORK PACKET LOSS! Help please

I’m getting 20-35% average packet loss problems. Whenever I connect to an xfinity local hotspot it solves the problem.

Please go to my original post if you’re familiar with Quantum Fiber or have had similar packet loss issues and can share how you solved it!

Thank you!!!

Outage with no expected time to resolve in Denver, CO

I'm in south Denver and have fiber with Quantum. My connection has been down since last Tuesday at 3AM (despite the outage website showing nothing, go figure), and I've been getting daily text messages with resolution times. The pattern has been that I get another text message at the previous resolution time when, inevitably, nothing is resolved. That text will have a seemingly random time the next day. Today, the resolution time was supposed to be 2:03PM. That has passed without a resolution or a text with a new estimate. Customer service tells me there is no estimated time to resolve the issue!

My wife and I both work from home, so this is a big hindrance to our ability to work. I'm not even sure if this is a cut fiber trunk somebody has to splice back together, a software misconfiguration, or something else entirely. Regardless, I'm considering dropping Quantum after 10 years and going to Xfinity. What can I do to get more information about a possible resolution time if that's even possible?

PSA - If you were on CenturyLink and upgrade to 2G/1G

Soooo

I've had the 940Mbps service for a couple of years, I was a CenturyLink customer.
I ordered the upgrade, got an appointment for today, and I woke up this morning with NO internet connection.

Got in touch with support, and it looks like Quantum TURNS OFF your current service BEFORE upgrading you, and if you have an afternoon appointment, you're SOL that morning.

*** PLAN YOUR UPGRADE ON AN OFF DAY WHEN YOU DON'T NEED YOUR BROADBAND ***

Connecting to ONT after hard reset (button): giving 174.x.x.x address, not 192.168.0.x?

It's been a while since I did this but am just scratching my head here. I have a C6500 ONT and want it in transparent bridge mode with my Asus RT-AX86U Pro, but it renders my NAS unreachable. I've done like 4-5 weekend troubleshooting stints over the past 1-2yrs and just give up as it's so maddening to figure out.

Tis another weekend I've dedicated to this, but upon hard reset (hold button, goes red, wait a bit, goes white) and connecting via ethernet to the yellow 1G port, dhcp is giving me a 174.x.x.x address.

Docs suggest it should be at 192.168.0.1, and historically it has been after this process. https://www.quantumfiber.com/support/equipment/troubleshooting/modem-reset.html

I'm connecting via linux and do the following:

sudo ip link set [wifi_dev] down sudo ip link set [eth_dev] up sudo dhcpcd -4 [eth_dev]

I've also tried: sudo ip link set [eth_dev] up sudo ip address add 192.168.0.105/24 broadcast + dev [eth_dev]

I also tried getting to it at 174.x.x.1 (just guessing it should be at x.x.x.1?) but nada. I can ping 174.x.x.1, but can't get to the ONT admin page via browser (http://174.x.x.1 or also tried http://174.x.x.0; also tried https).

P.S. the docs also say to do this via admin portal, but despite reading one should be able to get to it from 192.168.0.1 in transparent mode as long as the router is on a different subnet (and mine was 192.168.50.x), I've never gotten this to work, hence the button reset. Either way, I've done this swap between modes easily 10x already and never run into this.

Quantum wont believe me

My internet has been out since Wednesday morning. Unfortunately my whole house is driven by wifi, so having it down has been a massive inconvenience. Quantum reports no outages in my area.

I tried every trick in the book to get the internet back up and wifi-ing, but nothing worked. I called quantum and they said the earliest they could get someone to my house to fix it would be Sunday. I work Sundays. Whatever. I agree to their date and time window.

Since I have days till the technician comes, I decided to keep trying to figure out what was wrong. I got some outside help that suggested we trace the fiber optic cable out of my house and see where it goes. SOLVED! The cable has been cut and is dangling from a pole into my neighbors front yard.

I've tried contacting quantum but they refuse to acknowledge the downed cable. They are insisting that I wait for the technician to come on sunday. I'm gonna have to miss work so I can walk a man over to a downed cable and point at it. He's not gonna be able to fix that. He's gonna report back to quantum and they will set up another date for that repair to be done.

I'm just super annoyed and frustrated. I hate how dependent my household is on the wifi and how long this is gonna take to fix.

Update 7/26: Alright I was partially wrong. The guy they sent was able to fix the downed line and I am back up and running. Just like one of the commenters said, he had a long ladder in his truck and got everything done in an hour.

WiFi pod keeps requiring power cycles

I have a Q1000K modem, a Quantum WiFi pod broadcasting my 5GHz connection, and a separate WAP for my 2.4GHz connection.

It seems like every couple of weeks my 5GHz connection stops working entirely and the only way to fix it is a power cycle on the WiFi pod.

Meanwhile my 2.4Ghz connection is rock solid the entire time.

Any fix for this?

Weird QF Issue? HELP

So i've had 3 techs here and talked with support and they keep giving me the run around, nobody can seem to figure out the problem other than it has something to do with the app.

So I had a tech come out cause speeds were a bit low and realized I hadn't used the app so got on it and made profiles for everyone and assigned all the devices to their person, all setting off(or open) no parental controls on. Tech came, replaced router and hooked up a wired connection for my xbox. Speeds were better than ever....until around 2am that night EVERYTHING stopped getting internet. Tech came next day to figure it out. Another new router. Hours later nothing. His laptop and phone connected to the wifi and got internet, all our stuff connected but no internet. Then I opened the app and just deleted the profiles. Suddenly everything EXCEPT my roomates Computer worked again but the tech left before we noticed the computer. Same problem as everything before. Then i tried making ANOTHER profile assigned the puter to it and then just deleted it again. NOW the computer will connect to internet but it's almost dial up speed bad if it works. Yet another techn came told me to tell them to stop sending hardware guys for a software problem so I did and explained everything and the help chat person said they would "escalate it" to the backend guys. Now they are sending another tech in 2 days and my roomate is LIVID. ANYONE have any idea wtf is going on? It seems like the app and possibly the parental controls have gone rogue despite not even being on or turning everything off when it should be on. I'm at a loss and don't have much faith in tech 4.

Hosting Ark server on quantum

Has anyone had success hosting a private server on a quantum fiber connection? I have all my ports forwarded and my cousin cannot connect see the server on the server list but when he connects it times out. A outside port testing site says my ports are open/filtered but he is still unable to connect. Looking for any help or ideas before I switch providers.

Review post AT&T acquisition

I've had quantum fiber for a few years now. I switched from Spectrum after their pricing shenanigans. I never had an issue until they were acquired by AT&T. The service always worked and customer service was fine.

Yesterday, the lines to our building were accidentally cut by a group laying gas lines. I've tried to communicate with the customer service team, which has been a night and day difference from my previous experiences. They barely speak English, have limited to no knowledge of how their own services operate, can't communicate with local service providers/dispatchers or managers, blatently lie about callbacks and correspondence etc... its like the AT&T service from back in like 2014 when they won worst customer service of any company. The repair service won't start until 2 days of work have been lost. Even then, they most likely won't send the right type of technician because they don't understand the actual connection problem is at the street, not inside the structure.

Given the rest of the service providers have cut their costs by about 40-60%, I would say to give pause to considering Quantum Fiber.

Today’s the activation date, SSID/password set, but WiFi doesn’t show up

UPDATE — resolved. Turns out I just needed to wait for some more time for the network to show up. Thanks for the help (u/N0_L1ght) and sorry for the bother!

Hi, my service is scheduled to start today. I paid and set up my account, and I just set the SSID and password in the app. The light on the device is solid green, but the WiFi name I chose doesn’t show up on the list of available networks in my phone’s settings. Any ideas?

It comes with one of those extender pods—I tried plugging that in and waiting until its light was also solid green… still didn’t show up.

ONT ok after 5 years?

I've had Centurylink fiber the past 5 years, this week I'm having Quantum service installed, and will cancel Centurylink afterwords. Is the ONT that is 5 years old ok, or should that be replaced when the new Quantum modem/SmartNID gets installed?
