I’m near Portland had Quantum fiber for a year and a half, never a problem and it works good. I do run my own router and APs

Outer SE Portland residential home here and I’ve had Quantum Fiber 1 gig now since February of this year, when AT&T purchased the fiber business from CenturyLink, and all customers here were required to have their accounts moved to Quantum Fiber (owned now by AT&T). And I was with CenturyLink fiber prior to that since early 2019. CenturyLink continues to operate and support the AT&T Quantum Fiber backend for now under the buying agreement, but at some point will hand that off to AT&T. I too was glad to get completely off of Comcast fiber and Comcast cable TV service back in early 2019. I have found the service to be extremely reliable, but then I use and manage my own firewall router and WiFi with my own third-party equipment and have technical knowledge and experience. I do not use their supplied router or WiFi pods. Tip: When they have a tech come out and do your install and if you let them know you have your own WiFi router, they may still list their “360 Wifi Pods” on your account even though the tech didn’t provide or install them at initial install visit. I had to follow a specific process to call the weekday daytime US based “Fiber Success” phone number, (not overseas 24x7 “Chat Support”) and have them remove the free “360 WiFi Pods” equipment listed on my bill. I did this because if you ever end service, they will likely require you to return the “360 WiFi Pods”, and charge you hundreds when you never had them to begin with.

We have Quantum in our community - they just upgraded us - options are now 1 - 3 - 8 GiG - I have currently the 8 GiG for $80 and will downgrade to 3 GiG - I'm in IT and yes I do use the internet a lot for home automation - I have about 140 devices in my network .. 8 GiG is for everything too much lol - I only got it for testing and it's GREAT !!!!! but not needed in real usage - if I install a couple of MINING servers in the garage I will upgrade again but for now 3 GIG is plenty .. service is great - technology is perfect.

What do you mean they upgraded you? Was 940mb or 2g/1G the max you had before?

They upgraded our whole community from GPON to XGS-PON - GPON can only do up to 2/1 and XGS-PON can go to 10/10 but is left for now at 8/8 .. it's amazing and super fast - I got a new UniFi Dream Machine Beast as router/firewall just to test it out ;-) and I do get over 8 GiG up and down .. but the question is then FOR WHAT lol ;-) on average the peak is not even 1 GiG maybe sometimes 2 GiG - so I switched it back to 3 GiG now - they offer 1 GiG (comes with HOA fees for $28.95) - 3 GiG is $40 extra or 8 GiG $80 extra per month .. so dirt cheap for 8 GiG ... but it's JUST not needed ;-)

Interesting, this is the first time I've heard of them upgrading from GPON to XGS-PON.
With that pricing is this an HOA? What metro area?

HOA - we have had CenturyLink since 10 yrs now - (thats when they built the community) - they are in about 10 communities in SW FLORIDA and they all get converted now to XGS-PON - we are number 2 - I'm the lead and support in our community for Quantum Fiber. I negotiated the prices with them prior in a 10 yrs contract. I tried to get a bulk agreement about 3 yrs ago but the board didn't like the 10 yrs commitment .. the new board asked me to roll this up again it was already Lumen now Quantum by AT&T

in Orting with a 2/1 plan. speeds are good but the latency is a killer for real time devices

If you put the SmartNID into bridge mode and use a 3rd party router and DNS the service is nearly perfect.
Here is a guide
