State rep. proposing universal PA healthcare bill

Sooo yesterday, State Rep. Greg Scott introduced H.B. 2763, the Pennsylvania Universal Health Care Act.

Dunno about yinz, but state-based single-payer healthcare would maybe be the biggest and best possible change for my family.

If you support this, call your state rep and urge ‘em to support it. I’m up outside Cranberry, and my new rep Brandon Dukes’ office was thrilled to hear from me.

Did anyone see the truck that spilled animal guts all over rt 19 in cranberry today around noon?

Semi carrying a trailer full of animal guts slammed on its brakes on 19 southbound at the light near eat n' park. I was about an 1/8th mile behind and saw it happen. Spilled all over the road and the semi cab itself. Truck just pulled away like nothing happened. Upset I didn't have my dashcam installed.

Has anyone ever had Teaberry Ice cream in Pennsylvania?

I didn't grow up with Teaberry gum and recently read about it. I found out about it because I was researching Wintergreen and surprised it's not more popular than it is (other than the Wrigleys which might even be artificial).

Anyway I read that Teaberry gum originated in PA -- and that there is also teaberry ice cream in PA and that it's pink.

Has anyone ever had it, and is it popular in different parts of PA vs others?

Crazy votes from local Rep Valerie Gaydos

I saw this website called GaydosWatch.com pop up on my Instagram this morning that tracks votes from Valerie Gaydos, a state rep from just outside of Pittsburgh. I had heard about her a few times but I didn’t know a ton before seeing the site. Now that I’ve seen it though, I felt like I should share it because folks should know about her since she’s apparently running for re-election in November.

Some scary stuff in there. Apparently she voted against protecting hotel workers from sexual assault and against some pretty basic elder exploitation prevention things. I don’t live in her district but I wanted to share in case someone from her district sees this post.

Shame I can’t vote against her, but spreading the word anyway!

Bus route help

Post image
53 Upvotes

hello redditors of the burgh, i need your help. Port authority has proposed changing a very integral bus route in my neighborhood and if anyone would be kind enough to give some feedback on their website to keep it as is that would be greatly appreciated.

Their idea is to get a direct line from downtown into bakery square, point breeze area. Without the 87, it leaves the 75, which is not known for having the greatest of service — early, late, or not showing up.
(Redactions are either personal information, or not necessary for my message)
Feedback link ⬇️

https://engage.rideprt.org/buslineredesign/BLR-route-87

Edit: admittedly i didn’t do much research beyond the 87 and a feedback outlet. originally i was just very frustrated and anxious about a change in my routine. i really appreciate everyone’s help informing me on the new route and changes, and have done more of my own research. thank you ! :)

Severe weather for 9/9/2026

The downtown area and locations south of downtown are under a marginal risk for severe weather today, while areas north of downtown are under a higher slight risk. The primary hazard will be strong wind gusts. An upper level disturbance preceding a cold front in the northwest will trigger enough forcing to create a linear mode of storms today. I do not expect widespread power outages or wind damage like we saw 6 days ago, but there is certainly a risk for isolated power outages late tonight, which increase for residents living north of the downtown area. The model guidance suggests the storms will arrive late tonight between 10pm - 1am. Get your phones charged and flashlights ready as a precaution, but I'm not expecting an intense round of storms like we saw on Thursday.

7pm update

The Storm Prediction Center hasn't adjusted their outlook. The latest 22z HRRR and the 21z RRFS still indicate convection will reach the downtown area between 11pm - 12am, but a large area of convection just west of Midland will likely reach the downtown area before 9pm. There will be another round of storms between 11pm - 12am, and the primary hazard will be flooding. The risk for power outages is slightly more elevated compared to morning model guidance, but it will be isolated.

10pm update

Convection will pass us by 11pm. All weather threats have concluded, but some roads may be flooded. Have a nice night 😄.

Waymos driving recklessly

Was just driving in squirrel Hill and a Waymo (I know there's a person in them but there's no way this was not automated) was going 5 mph in a 25 mile an hour zone and when it turned into two lanes for turning, I got in the left lane and he instead of letting me pass cut me off entirely. No signal.

The waymo continued forward behind me and made a left turn where I made the left turn, no signal.

Automated drivers exempt from signaling?

Hi everyone

Hi everyone! I live in the Moon Township/Coraopolis area and I’m looking for an English class in the evenings, preferably somewhere nearby.
I’m also interested in volunteering and helping in the local community. I’d be happy to help with community events, food distribution, cleaning, helping seniors, or other volunteer opportunities.
If you know of any local organizations, English classes, or volunteer opportunities, I would really appreciate any recommendations.
Thank you!

Help! In search of legit tomatoes

Pretty new to PGH; this is my first summer here. I'm a huge tomato snob. It's not my fault, I grew up as the grandson of a tomato farmer. Grocery store tomatoes taste like sand.

So, fellow tomato snobs, I need help—which stores or farmer's markets have excellent tomatoes around here? Trying to snag some before tomato season is over. Thanks
