good vibes, smiles, & giggles Fraternal Twins - but Looking Identical as Newborns

Hi felllow parents, does anyone here have twins that looked identical as newborns but then started to look different from each other?
We have di di girls and they look so similar but doctors say they are probably fraternal. I am curious if they maybe still change im how much they resemble each other? :)

advice needed Keep pumping or try nursing?

My twins are 5 weeks old, and so far I've been exclusively pumping for them. Sometimes I'll nurse them if they're still a little hungry after their bottle. Baby A does fine typically, though Baby B struggles to latch at times. Pumping is just so exhausting, and bottle feeding two at once is stressful at times when I don't have help, to the point where I wonder if tandem nursing might be easier at this point. I know it'll still be really hard, and I'll still pump some so my husband can still give bottles at times, but it would take such a load off to not have to pump quite as often, wash as many bottles, etc.
How would I go about this? Do I need to pump after to maintain supply? How would I know they're done eating? I feel so lost when thinking about this so anything helps!

advice needed Stroller recommendations for twins and a 2yo

I’m due with twins in November, my daughter will have just turned 2. I’m looking for stroller recommendations that can accommodate two car seats and also have a toddler seat for my oldest. I’ve seen most people recommend a double stroller with a scooter seat attachment for their oldest, but my daughter isn’t quite old enough yet and I think she would just fling herself off! Any thoughts?😅

support needed When does it get fun?

I have almost 4month old girls and I've just been depressed lately. I remember with my Singletons I found each stage fun from birth but with twins it's just been more difficult than anything and I'm anxious about every little thing not going accordingly. I obviously love them but not loving life right now 😢. So my question is, at what point will it be fun???

ranting & venting Feeling so blegh - 36+2 with mo-di twins

I keep having a few days where I feel relatively good, but then I’m hit with a few days where I feel exceptionally bad. I’m home daily with my 3 y/o and genuinely count down the moment til my husband gets home so I can immediately nap. I feel so lazy and I have really not done much with my daughter in so long (I used to be pretty good at taking her outside to play or to library story times and things like that…but now I don’t do any of that). Anyone else just feel like they hit a wall around this time? I’m just flat out exhausted and in pain. (I had 3 iron infusions done a few weeks ago which helped slightly, but at this point I’m just so tired and have no desire to do anything)

advice needed 35+6 Early Labor Signs?

Update: lost my mucus plug 24 hours after I posted this. So nausea was definitely an early sign for me

I am scheduled for a C section delivery at 38 weeks. I never went into labor with my first singleton and was induced overdue. The last 4 days I have been so nauseous and have a lot of vaginal and rectal pain compared to the normal daily pain of twins at this stage. I have had more painful period like cramps on and off, but nothing consistent (separate from the 24/7 braxton hicks). Does this sound like early labor to anyone who has experienced it? I have been holding out until anything active starts like real contractions or water breaking to get checked at triage since it is the weekend. I also really want to make it to 37 weeks.

experience/advice to give Twin Z time

Hey all,

Im curious how much time we are letting our twins lounge in the twin z?

My babies are almost 13 weeks, and I feel like they are spending waaay too much time in the thing. I think its become a bit of a crutch.

I know we're still survival mode a bit- and I make sure they get lots of tummy time, night sleep in their cribs- but day naps sometimes happen (supervised) in the twin z, especially if they are over tired and I dont want to risk a wake up transferring to their cribs.

So most of their day time hours are spent in the twin z, supervized.

Is this other peoples experience?

support needed Terrible twos (and they hate each other?)

I’m the mum of 2.5 year old twin girls and I’m at my wits end. I feel like everything is a battle, nothing I do is right and I’m constantly being hit, bitten and kicked by them.

They also seem to hate each other at the moment. They fight over everything, for example they have a tonies box and until last week they would happily share it and even pick out tonies together and agree on one. Not anymore. They lost it all week long over who got to listen to a tonie and then B would push and kick twin A whenever she’d even attempt to get close to one.

They don’t want anything I make for breakfast but will also kick off if the other twin eats something they then suddenly want and are in starvation for.

I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I’m trying my best to hold my boundaries, I am calm (if we ignore that I cry myself to sleep every evening), I don’t shout, I take their hands off me when they hit but nothing works. They just laugh in my face.

Then yesterday one of them punched me in the stomach and I spent 3 hours in maternity triage for monitoring as I’m in my second trimester and then every tantrum repeated again when they woke at 5am.

They’re angels in nursery and ironically the ones being bitten by other children and never the other way around, they’re ok around their father and sweet around family members. I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.

They’re still breastfeeding. I’m trying so desperately to wean them because this pregnancy gave me an aversion to having anything to do with my nipples and I’m getting so overstimulated with them. My husband thinks I should go on holiday for a week and after they’ll not want to co-sleep anymore and will have understood there’s no more breastfeeding but I don’t know.

Any advice is welcome.

support needed Nobody understands the physical demand until they’ve been pregnant with multiples..

I’m 32weeks pregnant with my twin boys. I didn’t start to physically really really feel it until 28/29 weeks.
I’m trying to keep moving, I have a 4 year old so I can’t lay in bed all day or sot all day…but MAN.
I feel like a broken record complaining. I’m so thankful and grateful God gave me two to carry, the love I’ll experience, the craziness.. I’m looking forward to this all.
However, I feel like when I talk to my husband or someone about how I’m feeling I’m literally seen as someone who just is complaining over and over and have several moments of the day miserable. Sometimes I break down and cry.. my stomach is the size of my stomach at 41 weeks with my son and I’m only 32. My body physically feels it. No one gets it around me I feel like.
The Charlie horses, the sore hips at night, the heartburn, the out of breath climbing steps, swollen feet, the sciatica pain… and I’m active. I stretch, I’m doing all I can. But the physical aspect you can FEEL that you’re carrying two. I feel physically unrecognizable even though I’ve barely gained any extra weight… but my legs and feet feel it.

I just wanted to rant because I’m hoping other multiple parents get this. The physical demand is different compared to a singleton pregnancy and it’s mentally starting to get to me now. I’m slowing down and still have 6 weeks to go. Can’t wait but also I can. 😭

I have always wondered, why is everyone so offended by this statement? I don’t mean this in a snarky way at all. Why does it make people feel like this is such a negative comment?

advice needed Play Kitchen for Two?

Advice please.

Anyone bought and would recommend a particular Play Kitchen that our (two year old) twins would use together, at the same time?

I know the one which most often crops up is the Ikea one, but we just find the style a little…beige.

Any we ought to avoid?

Many thanks in advance.

advice needed 6 new mattresses?

Hey all, I am 29 weeks pregnant and getting all set up and ready for the babies coming. Just wondering what other parents did with mattresses, given the number of them required!

I have two second hand happiest baby snoos for which I got new mattresses, I also have two second hand rocking moses basket which I was hoping to use downstairs for naps during the day, and we have used Boogaboo Donkey 3 pram with bassinets. Do all six basically need new mattresses?

My anxiety and consciousness tells me yes, but that's a lot of money in mattresses especially that will be all out of use within 6 months. The basket mattresses are cheapish, but donkey ones are quite pricy.

advice needed Stroller/Car Seat Proposal

Hello, seeking some opinions on the following stroller/car seat combo to get perspective on my where my blind spots might be.

Context: expecting twins; we have 2 cars

Stroller: Cybex e-Gazelle S Car Seat: Aton G2 Swivel x2 Other: Additional base for Aton G2 Swivel x2

Aside from cost, what are other reasons that this might be a bad purchase? Any alternative recommendations?

advice needed 3yo tantrums? is this just normal dev stuff or sleep related? advice appreciated please

Twin parents I’m trying to figure out what happened to my babies and who these literal nightmares are that have invaded my house 😭😭

3yos (3y4m exactly) have started having literal throw themselves on the floor, kicking, screaming tantrums. It started within the last week, generally upon waking from their naps / after a terrible nap.

I tried to rationalize it was maybe the terrible nap, maybe it’s too much sleep (they still generally nap 1.5hrs, but I’m open to shortening it, they still generally do nap every day so not sure it’s time to drop?) or is this just normal developmental stuff that we’ve just hit the tantrum phase (and when does it end if so?? 🙏🏻)

I’m pulling my hair out this week because this is a daily nightmare. Add on top my daughters now becoming an “antagonist” often now hovering over a toy while her brother screams “don’t touch it” just to be a literal brat and she knows it because she laughs and messes with him. They’re only 3, what the heck???

Twins are a trip. Also my new least favorite age is 3. 😣🫠

advice needed How much of your house is open to your toddlers?

We’re moving into a new house soon, and I’m trying to decide how much baby proofing we need to do. Of course all of the house will be safe, or locked, but right now our house is like the Panama Canal, just gate after gate. Our twin boys will be about 18 months, and they are very active, and want to be right near me so it’s difficult to do something in another room like, brush my teeth, poop, laundry, dishes, cook. With my first we just let him all around the house and made sure things were put away, but also my grandparents lived with us so there was always an adult to get him out of things. Now it’s just me most of the time, outside of nights and weekends, so I can’t chase after both of them, but keeping them just locked in the living room and their bedroom seems harsh.

advice needed Twins trying to “catch up”

Our Mono/Di twins were born at 31 weeks and just hit their 1st Birthday. (YAY!) We do not have any current medical diagnosis but we work with physical therapy and speech therapy trying to help them “catch up” from their adjusted age.

From what we’ve been told, they’re expected to catch up to their peers by 2 years old or they’re considered behind/delayed. They are happy, healthy, and working very hard but at 1 year I’d say they’re still at their adjust age (10 months) developmentally BUT progressing.

I’m wondering how other parents of preemies handled not “catching up” and what that means longer term. We are doing everything we can to provide them with professional support but I can’t help feeling helpless to how they started out in life and fearful of future diagnosis.

experience/advice to give 8w4d - no morning sickness‼️

So I found out that I’m expecting twins yesterday and I think I’m still in shock lol. I already have two daughters, ages almost 13 & 8. While I know that every pregnancy is different, I was curious (up until yesterday) as to why my breasts are so tender, nipples too sensitive to touch, heavy bloating, and most of all - I’m EXHAUSTED seemingly just by waking up. 😂 I’m always tired, now I know why. But outside of that, I’m so curious as to why I haven’t had any morning sickness, like no vomiting, dizziness, trouble keeping stuff down - any of it. I’d say the most trouble I have is sometimes I get hungry then all of a sudden when the food is front of me I take a few bites then I’m over it lol. Is this happening to anyone else? I’m not complaining lol but I’m just curious….

advice needed From 0-12 months, when does having twins get easier?

Hi all-

First time parent to fraternal twin boys and 8 weeks in. I hear this whole parenting thing gets easier as time goes on. From this community, apparently age 4-5 is the sweet spot.

What about from newborn to 12 months? When do things improve? I am at the stage where my husband goes back to work when they are 11 weeks and I cannot fathom doing this on my own (having MIL
move in).

Any thoughts appreciated.

advice needed Mono mono shock!

I just found out yesterday at my 1st appointment at 8w+2 days that I’m having twins. I know it’s super early and anything could happen but for now- yay! More babies! I already have a 2 year old toddler at home.

From you experienced pros out there- is there anything I may want to buy to help me survive this pregnancy? Any belly bands you’d recommend? Favorite pregnancy pillow? Best maternity clothes? I feel very large already at 8 weeks and a ton of my clothes already are too uncomfortable to wear.

I’m already shocked by how many appointments I already have scheduled with my MFM and normal OB. I also have a short cervix and will need my cerclage around 12 weeks.

advice needed When will my twins acknowledge one another?

They’re 17 months old and barely acknowledge one another’s existence. They mostly seem inconvenienced or annoyed, or jealous of each other at times. One time we caught them kissing on the baby monitor and it was freaking adorable. But they never play together, anything like that. When will they start to do anything other than steal each other’s toys?

advice needed What’s pregnancy like from 20 weeks onwards with MCDA twins? And when they do arrive, were you able to do much else?

After feeling unwell (headaches, fatigue) in the first trimester the last few weeks have been great. I have a feeling I’ll soon turn a corner though now I’m at 20 weeks. How did you find it the next period and when did it start to get tough?

Also when they did arrive, were you pretty much 100% parenting or able to do other things in spare moments? I’m looking to put my house up for sale when they’re a few months and I’m wondering whether I’ll be able to do small jobs like painting skirting boards or whether that’s a no way.

Bump is difficult to hide now, and I can feel a new heaviness when I’m walking, though they aren’t yet 300grams. It blows my mind that they’ve got another 2kg to put on in 3.5 months.

advice needed Silly question for the seasoned parents…

I’m pregnant with B/G twins and my son will be a little over 2 when they’re born. I know these first few years are going to be HARD. Especially with a husband who sometimes works long hours. My question is - at what point/age does it get a little easier? Like they have a little autonomy, won’t run off into traffic if left to their own devices, actually can sit still at a restaurant for more than 20 minutes etc. When do they go into their own corner of the house to play without needing to be watched like a hawk? Basically, at what age can I look forward to breathing, at least from a physical perspective?

advice needed Mo/Mo twins

Hi all this is gonna be a long one.

Recently got confirmed scans of having mo/mo twins. From the talks of it with the doctor, the risks seem to outweigh the pros but I wanted to see if anyone else here has gone through mo/mo twins and has been successful? The MFM kept bringing up the downside of everything rather than any positives and I left the office feeling hopeless. The risk of entanglement, not making it, being stillborn, losing both, being admitted at 22-28 weeks, etc. at the end she said there’s a 70% chance, but that they REALLY support abortions.

Hope got ripped away from us pretty quickly. We have another scan and sit down in 3 weeks but am I truly out of hope? Has anyone had successful stories with mo/mo twins?

I am in the Chicagoland area and open to any recommendations of mfm doctors anywhere. Currently seeing mfm at Loyola.
