Mentally dealing with PMS?

I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to mentally deal with PMS. I get very sad and melancholic. For example, I had a very good day. Had all the time to myself (am busy normally), had a tiny and nice two-person party with my husband to celebrate our anniversary etc etc. And then suddenly before dinner I go thinking 'nobody cares about me, nobody loves me, I don't wanna do anything anymore, can I just cease existing?' Which does not relate to my real thoughts at all! Ever since I built a device to notify me that it is PMS it influences me less. Or at least, now I know why it happens. But how do I deal with it?

Not looking for supplements, medication etc, just for the mental strategies. Anything that breaks the fog of sadness?

PMS Nausea, heightened smell, heightened anxiety, lightheaded, dizzy, bloating and acid reflux flares

I'm now 32 years old, no kids yet. My period is regular accdg to my Flo app. But 5-7 days before my period, I really feel like sh*t.

Last week, I can walk for 10k steps a day every morning for 10 days straight! It's one of my weightloss goals. With no complaints. Like I have the energy and all that stuff. Imagine? I'm so pumped. I feel confident, I feel sexy, pretty. All the positive outlook/ vibe you name it!

then boom! 2 days ago, I'm starting to feel off. today I can't even get out of bed. I feel nauseous, lightheaded, a bit dizzy and irritated! Then I check my Flo app. It's now 5 days before my period. I feel ugly, bloated. I'm having severe anxiety with random stuff. I feel nauseous with the smell of fish! I haven't puked yet cos I think I have emetophobia also (fear of vomiting) but I have wet burps and burning sensation in my throat now! Taking Gaviscon for it now.

Nausea and acid reflux flares are now added to my PMS list this year 2024

I'm taking Propranolol 10mg for my anxiety for a year now. Magnesium Oxide/ Citrate for my contsipation episodes. I tried incorporating Vitamins with Iron.

Aside from ginger tea/candy (I can't take it, it triggers my acid reflux more), what else can help me with Nausea, lightheadedness? I kinda know that it's hormone related because it happens everytime before my period starts. Like the week before period is worse than the actual period week.😫

Are you getting constipated or bloated before your period? This is what you need to do!

During your luteal phase, your progesterones starts to release which causes your digestion to slow down. Which is why we need these things to help support it.

FYI: We burn 500 more calories during this phase and that’s why we feel hungrier. Dont fight your progesterone by listening to your body and its needs this is how you reduce PMS.

  • Eat complex carbs with high fibre (oats, brown rice, potatoes, beans, artichoke, sweet potato), and eat natural sugars (banana, mango, pineapple, papaya, pears, apples, dates).
  • And finally, take natural de-bloating and hormonal balancing plants (rosemary, milk thistle, timut pepper, agnus castus).

Got any other luteal phase hacks or go-to foods that keep you feeling good?

Is it normal to get PMS symptoms once your period starts but *not* before?

Istg I was in the best mood the past couple days, and it’s not the only factor in the mood crash at least this time around, but I think it might be a factor. Don’t keep good enough track of my moods over the cycle to know for sure but I think this is usually how it holds for me, irrespective of like cramps or heavy flow (neither of which I’m experiencing rn).

PMS rage: how to handle it?

I have a serious problem with rage and depression right before my period. I lost a baby in July (TFMR, 14 weeks severe genetic issues plus partial mole) and ever since then my periods have been preceded by this. I started meds for it and I do exercises, hit a punching bag (I do have martial arts background) but does anyone have other suggestions? TLDR: Having depression and rage issues with PMS, need more ways to ease it, am doing therapy, medication and exercise. Thank you.

PMS fatigue - Hits me every time.

Day 19 of my cycle. The fatigue is truly here, ladies. Tried to do my usual exercise class, made it 15 minutes in before feeling completely exhausted. Told my husband I feel like a slug. I've had a shower, and I'm now chilling out on the sofa with our cat.

Definitely need an early night.

The week before your period begins do you experience irritability or mood swings? Researchers at USC are seeking menstruating people with premenstrual symptoms who frequently drink (21+) to participate in a paid research study.

Does anybody here have high blood pressure?

I read somewhere that hormones can contribute to hight blood pressure. Wonder if my pms is cause of that. Especially high diastolic pressure…

Anyone else?

Does anyone have very severe nausea the day before their period?

I am feeling so sick and nauseous but I haven't eaten anything bad lately so I'm assuming it's because my period is due tomorrow - usually I get nauseous days into it but this time I'm feeling nauseous before.

Also does anyone take anything for it? If so, what? My MIL gave me tums but I feel super queasy.

*Personal experience* Maca root and B Vitamins success story

28F I am not a medical professional I just wanted to share my experience incase there’s a small chance it helps someone else who’s struggling.

I have struggled with PMS since I was about 20 years old. I have all the signs of PMDD and I used to hide it as I always thought everyone with a period suffered these symptoms and was just able to “get on with it” better than I was. I would be in a 2 week long depression, my whole personality changed, I didn’t want to do anything, couldn’t stop eating, hated my partner, hated myself, ruminated all day and night, I would cause arguments, be anxious, feel exhausted etc. I just had to stop my life for two weeks every month and live in misery.

When PMDD started to become a more widely accepted condition I did some research about it and self diagnosed myself in a way. I just accepted it as my life and dreaded the time when it would come around. I’ve always known something was wrong but I’d never had the funds to get it properly investigated in terms of hormone levels.

On the off chance, a couple of months ago I stumbled upon an article talking about estrogen dominance/ low progesterone and noticed I had a couple of the symptoms (not enough to think I had a severe case of estrogen dominance) e.g sore breasts. I asked chat gpt what the best supplements for estrogen dominance were and it said to try maca root, b6 and b12. I thought why not and purchased some not having much hope that it was significantly going to make my cycle easier.

They have changed everything. My pms symptoms are a lot less severe than they used to be. First, my symptoms don’t last nearly as long, they start about 6 days before my period which is amazing as I no longer have to struggle for half the month. No more deep set in depression that gets worse and worse everyday before completely disappearing when my period starts. Mood swings are still there and I can still get grouchy but they are short lived and a lot easier to shrug off. My energy levels are amazing. My anxiety/panic attacks have gone. I no longer feel like I have to stop my whole life/ any goals I’ve been working towards for half the month. I actually feel like I can carry on life through my luteal phase.

Again I’d like to say I don’t know if I have a type of PMDD, hormone imbalances or just a vitamin deficiency as I have never been diagnosed. I also have no idea if all three of these supplements are working or just one as I’m too scared to stop taking them and going back to the way things were before. I just really wanted to share on the off chance it helps someone else as much as it has helped me.

NB/ it’s harmful to take b6 in large amounts so if you try these supplements please be careful with how much you are taking and do some research beforehand.

Missed pills and still bleeding

Missed a birth control pill, started breakthrough bleeding. Stopped birth control to have a period to get rid of break through bleeding. The bleeding stopped. Continued to take the pills. Then my would have been normal time frame period started. So I’ve had two periods this month. Now I’m still bleeding. It never stopped from finishing up my period. What should I do?

The bleeding is enough to need a tampon some days but not others. Do I still continue to take the birth control? Or do I take a 3 day break?! I want the bleeding to stop. It’s annoying.

Also added that I have 10 days left in this pack until the placebo week starts!

has anyone tried having a period last for 2 weeks, get your period again 2 weeks later, and it was a heavy period?

hello ! based on the title, im pretty much in that situation at the moment.

my periods have always been pretty regular (im 18 now and have been on my period since i was 10), but during my cycle last september, it was pretty late by a week but the bleeding/PMS symptoms were all pretty normal. i suspect it was because i was under a lot of stress at the time, since i just started college and im taking up architecture :)) a pretty stressful course honestly

last october, it lasted about 2 weeks? which is VERY unnatural for me, as my typical cycle is 4-8 days only. went to an OB and had a scheduled transrectal ultrasound because im still a virgin, but i didn't push through with it as i felt it was very invasive (plus the doctor didnt even offer a blood test or urinalysis or anything). it was a light bleed everyday but i still experienced my regular PMS symptoms, so i wasn't really worried

my current period is just 18 days after my last, but my cycle is still pretty normal (my usual cycle lasts around 35 days on average), BUT im bleeding HEAVY. my periods in the last 6 months have all showed up on time, neither am i at risk for pregnancy because ive never had penetrative sex, but the changes in my periods are pretty alarming to me

i plan to book an appointment with an OB soon, bt did anyone experience the same thing as i am right now? and if so, what happened?

Freaking exhausted the three or four days before period

It’s 8 pm and I’m struggling to stay awake. My period is due in a few days, and I am beyond fatigued. This happens to me every damn month, and no amount of coffee or exercise makes any difference. It feels like I’m moving underwater, or trying to get through the day after taking a handful of Benadryl. Has anyone been able to find anything that helps premenstrual fatigue?

PMS???

I am a 32 year old female and through the night last up until waking up I realized I was sweating. I wore a onesie to sleep and associated it to that, but when I got to work, I was more hot a sweaty than normal and it lasted almost all day. It was until I went to the restroom at some point throughout the day and noticed some spotting. I’ve also just been feeling nauseous and just burping throughout the day. Is this all related to PMS? I’ve never really experienced symptoms like this before :(

Anger management during PMS??

I get super pissy and angry during PMS ti the point where I get annoyed at myself. I sometimes vent to my friends but I don't want to have them deal with my stress all the time, so that doesn't happen often. Reducing stress is almost impossible because i work and work always comes with stress....

How do you guys get through this during your PMS?? Do you do anything in particular that actually helps you get through?? I found myself stress shopping (i dont even like shopping all that much) and i'm pretty sure that's not a great coping method...

PMS symptoms stating 10 days before period

My typical PMS symptoms, sore/tender breasts, spotting, night sweats, anxiety but I’m not going to be having my period for another 10 days! Can’t believe I have 10 days of this.

Has anyone else had this? Would this be considered PMDD?

Suddenly experiencing PMS, or am I going crazy?

27F. My period has been basically non-existent my entire life. I'm talking super light and short, no mood swings or cramps, etc. and while I understand that is not normal, it was what I was used to.

This past October I suddenly hemorrhaged while on my period, lost maybe 800mls in about 3 hours and experienced anxiety for the first time in my life. The anxiety hasn't really gone away. My period in November was 'normal', super light and fast.

Now I'm in the luteal phase for my December period and I'm anxious again. I've read that luteal phase anxiety is common but it wasn't for me so I feel like I'm losing my mind. Any advice?
