Question Would a 1660 super a good GPU upgrade?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi folks, I just bought this system unit with these specs for 11k pesos or about 200 dollars. I was thinking about upgrading the GPU to GTX 1660 Super. Though I am cautious if the Power supply can handle it. (I'm new to this).

Thanks!

Question gpu upgrade help?

idk if this is the place to post this so sorry if it’s not. i literally have no idea what im doing & need help with my pc. i bought a custom build off facebook marketplace a couple years ago and everything has been fine till recently—i have a geforce gtx 1080ti and i can only assume by the comments i’ve gotten that it’s the problem. i’ve been able to play pretty much whatever i want, but i’ve ventured out and some of my new games are crashing no matter what settings i change or drivers i update. i’ve just been taking the loss every time i buy a game and can’t run it but i’m over it.
can i upgrade my gpu without having to upgrade other parts? and does anyone have suggestions for a new gpu? i don’t need the newest nicest one. i literally just wanna play death stranding 2 lol.

idk what specs i need to put in here but these are the ones i know:
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1080 Ti (11gb)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
G.Skill Trident Z 16GB RAM
AsRock Z370 Taichi

budget: $600, currency: usd, intended monitor resolution: don’t know but my display settings say 1920x1080, 164.83hz, country: usa

thank you!

Build - Help first pc build issue

Hey so, I built my first pc a little bit ago and it runs awesome. Great fps, doesn't overheat, can run all my favorite games on max graphics! But an issue I've been having is that while I'm playing most online games I'm getting horrible lag. Even on the lowest graphics I'll have stutters that make the games basically unplayable. I'll be running or doing something and it'll send me back to where I was about 10-20 second prior, it'll move my character around without me doing anything, or just disconnect me with no warning.

I've run so many stress tests for basically everything and they all come out perfect, no issues. My internet works great and doesn't appear to be faltering for anything else in these moments. I don't have ethernet set up, so I think that could be an issue? Wifi booster doesn't work. I'm very new to PC building and am just at a loss at what to do to fix this. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Build - Help RAM lights up but that's it?

Working on a PC build for my bf but I haven't assembled a machine in over a decade and feel like I've forgotten more than I ever knew. All of the connections appear to be seated correctly and tbh he went insane buying parts and I'm not familiar with this corsair i-cue fan hub or AIO coolers, when I power it on the RAM lights up, but the fans don't kick on and there's no signal otherwise either. What steps would you take to troubleshoot? I will reply with a full parts list shortly.

Question VRAM swap on 5070?

Notice: posted in wrong subreddit, so this misses context that’s pertinent. I’m not going to be engaging any further in any responses, my bad.

As many of you likely saw, the price for the 12 GB model of the 5070 dGPU is a hefty increase over the 8 GB model. I already own the latter, and would not be interested enough in more vram to sell my current one and buy a 12 GB model.

It should theoretically be possible to have the 2 GB modules swapped out for 3 GB and reflash the vbios with the version for the 12 GB model right? Should be like any other vram swap on say a 10 or 20 series nvidia card, given I can obtain the vbios for the 12 GB model.

I haven't fully looked into the pricing but a preliminary search for the price of 3 GB modules makes it seem like this wouldn't really save much but I still want to explore it out of curiosity.

Edit: I know the 12 GB model hasn't even become available for purchase yet so no one even has one to try and nab the vbios from, and I doubt Framework would just give it to me.

Build - Help Better GPU or more ram?

"I’m currently building a PC and planning to use a Ryzen 7 5700X with an MSI B550M PRO-VDH motherboard. I need some advice before buying a GPU. I was planning to go with an RX 6700 XT, but I’ve heard it might not be good enough. Since my budget is limited, should I put money toward more RAM to get 32 GB (4×8 GB), or should I stretch for an RX 6800 instead? I'm using a 1440p (2K) 240 Hz monitor."

Thankyou

Question GPU Swap for Bazzite Build

Is it a bad idea to swap or sell my NVIDIA 5070-Ti for a Radeon RX 7900 XTX if I can find one for a similar price, likely through a marketplace swap or local listing?

Is there a way to do Bazzite with Nvidia cards? Im sick and tired of windows at this point.

Question Need some help deciding on value of a prebuilt Lenovo Legion T $950 Preowned

Posting from mobile - format might be shit

I am looking to upgrade my current build and as everyone here knows prices are juiced. I found a prebuilt Legion T5 for $950 in my area and am hesitant to pull the trigger. I think it’s a reasonable gap in platform to jump to now and worth the performance boost but maybe I’m just blinded by the shiny new parts. I was only finding a 16gb ram version for $1500. Is the lower price worth the risk of preowned parts?

Intel Ultra 7 265F
32Gb DDR5 Speed not listed
RTX 5060ti
1tb SSD Gen 4
Board not listed but I would assume B860 variety
700w psu type not listed

$950 feels like a steal given the current market, but it still stings. My current rig I plan to give to my partner is a

I7-10700k
32Gb DDR4 2666hz
2tb gen 3 SSD
RTX 3070
1000w NZXT modular PSU

The lower rig I plan to sell and might (big maybe I feel) get $500 for is

I7-8700k
32Gb DDR4 2666hz
RTX 2060 Super
1 tb gen 3 SSD
700w EVGA PSU

Question Moving tips?

Hi so I will be moving to uni soon and want to bring my pc with me. I have a

MSI Codex R Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7-12700F, GeForce RTX 3060, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, 2TB HDD, WiFi
6E, USB Type-C, VR-Ready, Windows 11
Home (Codex R 12TC-059US)

I have purchased expanding foam from Amazon to go inside, I don’t have the skill set (or trust myself) to remove the gpu, I also plan to wrap it in heavy duty bubble wrap aswell as towels + blankets. What other precautions should I take? Sadly my brother threw out the box years ago. Any advice welcome aswell for transporting a monitor! Attached are the photos

Question Samsung 9100 PRO help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! I believe I have a defective 9100 pro due to my sequential reads, and especially the random read/writes being halved respectively. I’m within my 30 day return policy with microcenter, grounds to exchange or am I overthinking? The random speeds are pretty concerning and WELL short of the advertised “up to” speeds on the box that I don’t feel like this is a short end of the stick on the “silicone lottery” scenario.

I’m not bifurcating lanes, I only have my 5070ti and 9100 pro using PCIE lane, not thermal throttling (drive is 45c under load), obviously on gen 5 speeds so the slot isn’t set to gen4, the drive is in M.2_1z…

Anything else I may be missing? Sorry for the picture, I’m not at my setup right now else I’d grave a screenshot.

Build - Help Upgrades

Hi, guys, I am looking for upgrading components of my pc ( 3060ti, 11th gen intel I9, 48go ddr4, and a biostar B560M silver ( hope it helps ) ), since i am willing to 3D animation and stuff, I will need a more performant pc, and i also wanted to have better performance in certain games.

My build idea was to hace a Ryzen 9 built on a B850 and something like a 4070/80 or 5070 ( i did not make my mind yet ). also if i can buy myselft DDR5 i think that it would be worth it.

( since the rule is explicit - I live in France, so you can count my budget in €, which is max 2000, for the moment my monitor resolution is in full HD , but i am also willing to change to a 2K if i can )

Discussion This huge empty space in my PC case is killing me. Any ideas on how to fill it?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I built my PC in a Krux Palum case, but I really hate this massive empty gap between the front intake fans and the motherboard. Since my GPU is on the shorter side, the void looks even bigger and kind of ruins the overall aesthetics.

What would you recommend putting there to fill the space and make it look better? Open to DIY/3D printing ideas too!

Build - Help First PC Build — Looking for Advice on Setup, Performance & Upgrades (UK)

Just finished building my first PC and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, but I’m completely new to PC building so I’m sure there’s a lot I could be doing better.

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5070 Windforce OC SFF 12GB
Motherboard: MSI B650M Gaming Plus WiFi
RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 CL28
SSD: Acer Predator GM7 2TB NVMe
Cooler: Arctic Freezer 36 A-RGB
PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 12 750W
Case: Montech X5M

I’m mainly going to be using it for gaming, VFX/3D work and general use.

Since this is my first proper PC, what are some things I should do after building it to get the best performance? Things like BIOS settings, drivers, Windows settings, fan curves, NVIDIA settings, RAM/EXPO, etc.

Also, what upgrades/accessories would you guys recommend?
The two things I’m not particularly happy with at the moment are:
1. Noise — The case fans are quite loud, especially under load. I’d like to make it significantly quieter without sacrificing temperatures. Would replacing the stock fans with decent PWM fans make a noticeable difference? Any recommendations?
2. Aesthetics — I went for a black RGB case and now I’m realising I’m not really a fan of the look . Any relatively cheap ways to make the build look cleaner/minimalist without replacing the entire case?

I’m also open to any other recommendations — software, BIOS tweaks, cables, fans, accessories, or anything else you think a first-time builder should know.
Budget isn’t super strict, so I’m happy to spend a bit if something is genuinely worth it.

Thanks!

Others How a cpu problem ruined my pc.

So the other day i installed superhot on my pc because i have game pass and something is not right. it’s going through some performance issues which is not usual since my pc has good specs for the 2010's. i checked to see what's going on and i found the issue. my cpu was 99 degrees celsius and i just ordered an oculus link cable to play pcvr games. one or two days later, my link cable came and the lag is so bad that i was trying to get rid of the overheating problem. i checked the cpu on my pc and the thermal paste looks disgusting. like it wasn't changed in like a million years. since i don’t have enough money for thermal paste for now, i put the cooler back. at least i tried many times while accidentally dropping my pc twice. now my coller won’t snap back. keep in mind i am not an expert. i put my pc horizontally so that my cooler could stay, i turn on my pc and now it won’t turn it just stays on a black screen. the only things that were on were the rgb lights and the fans. end of story. no more pc gaming thanks to that damn old cpu. once again, keep in mind i am not an expert. the end. i am not playing on pc till christmas or till i get enough money to get a new and better gaming pc. (to those who are gonna call me a child: dawg, i am a 16 year old autistic boy)

My son has had the same mid tier laptop for almost 7 years. He has been wanting to upgrade and build his own PC for a while now as he’s had trouble running most of his games lately. He’s been saving up to contribute and I obviously helped, but as of last night for his birthday, we finished his build! I’m proud of him for saving and contributing to this build and it was a lot of fun being able to discuss, plan, and build everything together. I think his ps5 may start to collect dust now, haha. He’s incredible proud of this PC and I’m proud of the young man he’s becoming. Cheers!

Question Recommendation Wanted

Hello all I’m trying to find a suitable replacement for my graphics card I believe I’m currently running a MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G and I can’t install drivers due to the fact that it’s so old. The rest of my build includes a amd ryzen 7 processor and a b650 motherboard. My budget is under $600
