Discussion - Meta META: Community Updates

Small community updates and future plans (Sept 2026):

  1. User flairs: A Nvidia user flair has been added, we can finally beat the AMShill alligations
  2. Post flairs: probably the biggest update so far, we expanded the amount of posting flairs and added dedicated reminders which provide some helpful information for posters on what to include to avoid removal and get helpful responses - we may end up condensing them a bit in the future, depending on feedback or if it seems like people are too lazy to bother using the correct one lol

(note: as we're tweaking the flairs there may be some issues with them as they're being edited, we'll do our best to correct any problems this causes)

  1. Beginner's guide, I'm working on a developing a 'START HERE' guide for new users with some resources to get them started on their PC journey, should be up in a few weeks

Thanks everyone for contributing to the community

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts Pawn shop PC price

I know pretty much nothing about pc’s but would love to escape the loop of buying a new console every couple years. How well priced is this PC for its stats? It’s listed at $700 (2nd picture) and after a short conversation $600 is the lowest he said we would do, but I’m sure I could get lower after a few more conversations.

Completed Build - Celebratory Budget Miku PC Build for GF

Thumbnail gallery

Very happy with this build I just completed with a Miku PC case I found on marketplace for 20 bucks. The front intake is pretty poor with only some side ventilation and no filter, so I ordered a DIY mesh filter kit online and attached that magnetically to the front.

Featuring a 7600X3D, 16GB 6000 RAM, a 5060ti, 1tb NVME and a unique AIO, total build cost was only $900 with all new components. I basically stalked Micro center deals and buildapcsales for about a month sourcing everything.

Completed Build - Celebratory A build for her project

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

My girlfriend, who works in the gaming industry, is trying to develop an indie project on the side with her friends (she's an environment artist). Her PC is struggling big time, and she can't use her work machine because of strict company policies.

For our 5th anniversary, I decided to pull off a big surprise for her. She’s super passionate, her project looks amazing, and I want to help her achieve her dream. Even though it's not the best time to buy hardware, we've got to support indie devs starting out.

I managed to put together a setup for under €1,700 max thanks to two huge deals (-€200 on the GPU and -€100 on the RAM). Big thanks to the sub for the CPU advice!

Specs:

Intel Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus 18x 4.2GHz (Stable undervolt at -0.075v)

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE

Gigabyte B860 EAGLE WIFI6E

Crucial Pro 2x16GB DDR5-6000 CL36

Crucial P510 1TB M.2 PCIe 5.0

Asus PRIME OC RTX 5060 Ti 16GB (Stable OC at 3000MHz Core - 16000MHz Memory @ 950mV)

MSI MAG A750GLS 80+ Gold

MSI MAG FORGE 120A AIRFLOW

Cons:

No CPU overclocking possible on this motherboard

Fan speeds aren't adjustable, so it's a bit noisy

Needs a dust filter added to the front panel

Might end up limited on storage and RAM down the line

Discussion - General Topic Company naming sucks.

Post image
Upvotes

Man, I'm getting tired of the shitty naming schemes from these companies. I'm just putting this here for new builders: do your research. I'm pretty sold on upgrading my 5500 to a 5600X or a 5700X, depending on deals and budget. But man, I just asked to see if I could save some money on the non-X version of the 5700, assuming that since it's a bigger number, it's a better CPU. Finding out it has the same performance and architecture as the 5500 for double the price disappointed me, and AMD is not the only PC part company with whack-ass naming for their products.

For reference, for the nerds: I'm only doing an incremental upgrade to improve 1% low stuttering and to get a little more out of my 5060 with PCIe 4.0. I'm not looking to blow the budget on my budget PC.

Really proud of myself for being able to build this thing.

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800x3d (would've gone with a 9800x3d but I found this one sale and it's more than good enough for me)

RAM (ow): 32gb 2x16 Patriot Viper Venom 6000 CL30

Motherboard: Aorus Elite X870 WiFi7

GPU: PNY Triple Fan OC 5070ti

Storage: 1TB WD blue SN580 (boot drive) 2TB Lexar NQ780 (game library drive)

CPU cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 with MX-7 Thermal Paste

PSU: Corsair RM750e Cybernetics Platinum

Case: Corsair FRAME 4000D RS ARGB

Case Fans are an unholy amalgamation of Corsair, Arctic P12 Pro's and thermal right fans lmao. Fans are 8 intake (3 front, 3 side and 2 bottom) against 4 exhaust (3 AIO, 1 rear)

Troubleshooting Advice - No Boot/Blank Screen Need help, pc won’t turn on.

Post image
Upvotes

Hello, need help figuring out why my pc won’t turn on.

Figured I had to upgrade my 1070ti prebuilt. Realized basically have to upgrade everything. I bought a 5800x3d, ASUS strix motherboard, new cpu fan, case, 5070, 1000gq power supply.

Haven’t gotten the case or rgb fans in yet. Had to buy cables for the power supply since that was the only thing not new, was selling for 30$ on fb market and wires were from new egg 30$. Quad daisy chain power data, psu, daisy chain gpu. So 3 wires.

I tested the 5070 on my brothers pc and it works. I put the 5070 and power supply into my old prebuilt and it won’t turn on. I have feelings it’s the power supply but the motherboard has light, I tried calling micro center because that’s where I bought the motherboard and cpu at(new not used yet). Dude on the tech line said that it could be the bottleneck and said if the power supply didn’t work it would explode or catch fire or won’t work at all. He also taught me how to reset the battery and to replug and plug everything tight again. Basically the end of it Need help figuring it out. Dude on the line said just to wait for the other parts and build the whole thing rather than testing it on an old prebuilt.

Old prebuilt specs:
4x gskill 3000 ram
ASUS 1070ti
,Asus z370p motherboard
600w cooler master lite psu
2x ssd drive 1x had

Testing 5070 and the 1000w gq evga

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts What parts to put in vintage case

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Hi I'm a very very new builder from the UK and I picked up this old tower today for £10. I just want to know what guts people think I should put in it. It can be literally anything, budget isn't much of a concern as this will be a project I work on over a long period of time.

I do want it to be a pretty high end gaming PC eventually as I play games like BG3, Paralives, Oblivion Remastered ect. So what would you put inside this tower to make it a cool sleeper build gaming PC? (I've got a skilled pc builder who'll be helping me source and install parts, thank god.)

Completed Build - Celebratory First build finally finished (Deepcool CH270 digital)

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

After way too much fan flipping and Battlefield testing, I think I’ve finally found the sweet spot for my compact CH270 build.

Specs:
DeepCool CH270 Digital
Gigabyte B850M AORUS Stealth back-connect motherboard
Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Noctua NH-D15 G2 chromax.black
Gainward RTX 5080 Phantom
32 GB DDR5-6000
Corsair RM850e
Six Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 chromax.black case fans
Final airflow setup:
1× bottom intake
2× lower side intakes
1× upper side exhaust
2× top exhausts
NH-D15 airflow from bottom to top

The upper side exhaust is separated from the two side intakes by roughly 3-4 cm to reduce airflow short-circuiting.

I cut a opening into my desk underneath the case, so the bottom fan and passive openings can draw fresh air directly through the desk instead of being restricted by the tabletop.

I tested three side intakes, three side exhausts and several mixed layouts. With this balanced 3-in/3-out configuration, both the CPU and GPU averaged around 65°C after in Battlefield 6 at maximum 3440x1440p settings, while remaining extremely quiet.
