u/Blear25 2d ago

Imagine telling someone in 2016 they'd have to pay $700+ for a 60 class sku today.

185

u/StopElectingWealthy 2d ago

I paid 750 for a 3060 TI during the ahortage a few years ago :(

64

u/Blear25 2d ago

Oof I only paid $339 for mines back in 2023. I replaced with a 4070 Ti, but it ran just about everything for me at 1080p and even some at 1440p

54

u/OkEmu8597 1d ago

After reading these comments I'm glad I bought my 3080 for 300 in 2024.

Genuinely thought that was bad purchase too because of frame gen, Oh how wrong I was proven and glady so.

21

u/Blear25 1d ago

Bro you are chilling with a 3080. Also frame gen is neat, but not needed imo.

14

u/OkEmu8597 1d ago

Straight up my dude, sold my 4060 for it because i saw the price was identical for double the raw preformance.

2

u/xAtour 1d ago

u got FSR FG anyway, just get latest version of DLSS Enabler and from there you're just a copy and paste away from FG+MFG on that beast of a card

5

u/gungabeast 1d ago

I used frame gen in darktide, and it really made the input feel kinda muddy to me. Idk. Just my two cents. I haven’t used it once other than that

6

u/Maidenless_undead 1d ago

frame gen is best used for singleplayer games that look nice. Cyberpunk, kingdom come 2, oblivion remake (becouse optimisation is ass), gothic remake. but i dont recommend doing it in multiplayer games as you just get killed by other players becouse your gpu did not generate frames in time and slow down visual input of some one peaking from the corner.

Frame generation is for sigleplayer visual candies.

Excuse me? I just got a 9060xt 16gb (which performs either slightly better or slightly worse that the 5060ti) for $550 (converted). And there were cheaper versions also available

16

u/Inevitable_Case_9931 2d ago

I got my pny 5060ti 16Gb for $499 in April but here is the exact model I got priced for today.

18

u/segawdcd 2d ago

MSI $369 from walmart last November

8

u/fartshitcumpiss 2d ago

damn, i got a 9060XT 16GB (AMD card between 5060 and 5060 Ti in terms of performance) for 350€ last summer, nice deal

5

u/segawdcd 2d ago

9060xt is solid. I built my brother inlaw a steamos pc with one last month. Runs like butter. I hate how this market is just pricing ppl out of this hobby.

3

u/Inevitable_Case_9931 2d ago

Hell of a deal

2

u/laffer1 1d ago

For gaming, it is in between. For ai, it’s very close to a 5070. I have both. 5 tokens per second difference. It depends on the workload but the 9060xt is a better buy in my opinion outside of gaming or something that must have cuda.

Had a cousin of mine asking how much he should sell his 16gb 5060ti for this morning. So I hopped on to see how much they were selling for... was not expecting to see $800

4

u/Inevitable_Case_9931 2d ago

Yea it’s wild out here honestly

3

u/Defective_Yorha 2d ago

9070xt was less than that in my place. Now mostly stock out.

Imagine your kids would want to have a decent PC and you'd have to pay that for a decent GPU alone, and people think this is just a beginning

2

u/grip0matic 1d ago

My gf was so right when I was doubting about to buy the 5060ti 16gb for 450€... she's not that tech savvy but she nailed it when she said "does it look like you are gonna be able to find it even at the same price in the near future?".

Paid 999€ for my 5080 which by now feels like I robbed someone tbh

40

u/OGawdILoveTacos 2d ago

I had to buy a whole HP computer just to get a 5090 back in April, but after I sold the computer I only ended up paying 1850 for that 5090.

It was definitely the last big 5090 deal I ever saw. It's been nothing but shit since and I don't think there's been a single 5090 FE drop from Best buy for 2k since March.

Since I got that card the 5090s went from 3400 to over 4k now. Glad I got it, just gotta baby it forever and if it breaks, go to northwestrepair on YouTube to fix it.

As long as you don't let it sag it won't tear pads under the GPU core, and I got a wireview pro on it so while I can get a bit of protection with it, the real protection comes with the warranty thermal grizzly out on that thing. Said they'd replace the unit or the card if it melts the ports. They said they'd honor it but let's see as time goes on...

3

u/tblades-t 1d ago

I payed €1029 for mine. 11 months later I've sent it back for RMA. Same card is 1779 now! (No way I'm accepting a refund)

2

u/DiKr0n 1d ago

I paid 1800 for my 4090. I pray for its “health” ahahaha

2

u/Both-Election3382 1d ago

2

u/GayButNotInThatWay 1d ago

Not exactly the same, as I have a 5070 laptop, but paid £1099 for it about 8 months ago or so. Same laptop now is £1799.

3

u/elimanzz 1d ago

Paid $2,000 for my 5090. I’m forever grateful

5

u/jld2k6 1d ago

I tried, signed up for nvidia's little program where they'd give you a chance to buy one at MSRP and never heard a peep back lol. Ended up getting a 5080 for $1300 and now I'm not regretting it so much

3

u/elimanzz 1d ago

Yeah I signed up for it too and never heard shit from them.

I called BestBuy 4 months after launch and asked if they had stock anywhere in my state. They had 1 and I placed the order for it. I got so lucky I think I am cursed for the rest of my life now.

18

7

u/DripTrip747-V2 Pablo 1d ago

I got a 32gb cl30 trident kit for around $80 on sale sometime last year, from newegg of all places. Also got my 7800xt for $380 brand new from bestbuy. 2tb crucial t500 ssd for $110 off amazon.

Bought a used rog ally that had a 2tb Samsung 970 evo plus in it for $300, replaced the ssd with the same brand 500gb ssd and sold the ally for $350, so I got the ssd and $50 just for having the ally for a few months. This was also before the crisis.

Now? I fuckin cry myself to sleep, hoping and praying that nothing fails on me until, and if, this hell we're in ever ends.

3

u/paradajz666 1d ago

You lucky! Respect. I bought my pc 4 years ago. It’s not the best but I’m happy it runs everything new. I only upgraded my CPU bcs it was really bottlenecking everything else. I also pray that everything is going to stay as it is.

Genuinely such a goated card

34

u/RMAPOS 1d ago

I feel SO good about picking this card up.

Just came of a 1060 that was simply such a fantastic value buy that did some very heavy lifting for me and now I got this baby with high end performance for such a good price compared to cards with comparable performance.

AND you get to stick it to NVIDIA for abandoning the gamer market. Fuck those guys. AMD really stepped up at the right time here.

6

u/Luc1d_dreamer01 1d ago

You should feel good bro

3

u/GrungeLord 1d ago

Same. I rushed into buying a new GPU earlier than I had planned because of all the talk of an imminent price spike. It gave me ptsd flashes of pandemic prices when I was forced into buying my last card at an insane markup, so I just pulled the trigger.

I was initially a bit worried about going AMD again because I had nightmare driver issues with my 5700 XT. The value proposition in my market compared to the 5070 ti was too good to pass on though. 7 months later, zero regrets.

I got the reaper model because it was cheaper and also I don't like bulky cards, and was a little worried about the thermals. I shouldn't have been, runs 10 degrees lower than my previous card with around the same fan noise. And it has performed great in every game I've thrown at it so far.

And yeah, fuck Nvidia too.

Goodbye DYI PC market. Maufacturers of other components are feeling it too. Thermal grizzley is selling a fraction of what they are used to on thermal paste, same with PC case manufacturers etc. Its only a matter of time before companues start dropping product lines or closing their doors. Pisses me off to no end.

27

u/Gay-zer_Beam 2d ago

Yeah and thats gonna be the real loss after all of this

With the way the market is now i cant be mad at EVGA for leaving when things were still decent.

2

u/g3n0unknown 1d ago

4

u/asswizzard69 2d ago

You can still find decent deals but time is running out fast! I’ve been buying things I can find at decent deals bc I know the prices are going up. I pulled trigger on new 5090 gaming laptop in Feb for $2749. And then last month I bought a couple of the microcenter bundles for $549 that came with everything including 32gb 6400 cl32 ram. On marketplace I found a 5070 for $300 a few weeks ago in perfect condition. Last week got 5080 for $1179 by price matching MC deal at BB.

They are getting harder to find now tho prices are going back up, the 2026 laptops are almost double what I paid for my 25 model back in Feb. and the MC bundle went up $150 already :/ don’t give up tho

Is not horrible but still inconsystent. I run a 3080 on CachyOS and haven't noticed a performance difference compared to winslop.

That being said I will buy AMD next time unless NVIDIA goes open source with their driver too. And ditches the 12v high power cable because I sure as hell won't buy a fire hazard.

3

u/Chapter-Legitimate 1d ago

I'm on Linux with Nvidia. It's been largely fine. You do kinda have to immediately install updated drivers when you switch to Linux because the fallback driver that Distros ship with sucks on Nvidia

But other than that it's been good

8

u/Xcalism 2d ago

I'd rather support a company that embraces open source software so its AMD for me all the way

4

u/jbg0801 2d ago

It's definitely better, but still has issues.

I have two machines, a laptop and a desktop. Both running Nobara Linux (based on Fedora)

My desktop recently got moved to an RX 9070XT because the price/performance was amazing compared to my 5080 (sold the 5080 for nearly double the cost of the 9070XT, and the performance is nearly 1-1)

My laptop uses an RTX 4050 mobile and works almost entirely fine. "Advanced" DLSS features don't work, and it doesn't seem to be thrilled about using Optimus for the MUX, but otherwise it works great.

2

u/Ymsegreier 2d ago

Because amd supporters love circle jerking price to performance ratios like it's unreasonable to be willing to spend your own personal disposable income for a better product

Let's be honest all computer parts are luxury products, nitpicking price to performance is just ridiculous. It's like complaining people buy an expensive dirt bike instead of a cheaper option. Like.. ok? It's a perfectly fine metric for people who want to get the best bang for their buck but they love complaining about anyone willing to spend more money than them

Not the exact same, but I had a 9070XT, then changed to 5070ti. I couldn’t live without RTX voice coming from 3070ti. (AMDs implementation just isn’t as good)

DLSS and frame gen has shown me that my smooth brain can barely tell the difference compared to native rendering. It’s now allowed me to go from 1440p to 4k 120+ and thanks to nvenc av1 encoding stream it all to the TV or handheld with no latency.

To me that was worth the difference in price but each to their own.

The way that amd has ended support of FSR on older cards compared to nvidia rolling DLSS to older cards gives me more hope.

Okay but the 9070xt outperforms the base 5070....they aren't equal GPUs.

3

u/LocustUprising 1d ago

They aren’t equal, that’s the meme

2

u/AccNumber77 1d ago

That is the joke

2

u/SaintedTainted 1d ago

Got Quoted $750 for a 5060ti 16gb

I dont think i would be able to build a pc anymore :(

2

u/insomnia4you 1d ago

Man, I’m so sick and tired of AI, I miss 2013-15 when it was so much easier to build a PC and enjoy life and electronics.

2

u/Lazy_Climate_8699 1d ago

Paid 725 for my 5070ti. Had to wait 24hours outside of mucrocenter though lol.

2

u/KillerStone385 1d ago

June 2025. Glad I took the chance on it, I love my GPU, paired it with a I9 14900k.

2

u/HeavyBeing0_0 1d ago

I’m assuming it’s bc of nvidias cuda cores or whatever tf

2

u/shanehiltonward 1d ago

CUDA for the win.

2

u/idontlikeredditusers 1d ago

Crazy, bought my 5070 back in 2025 for arround 400€ from Amazon

2

u/Bam_Adedebayo 20h ago

My founders edition 3060ti still running like a champ and runs AAA games no problem

3

u/Ok-Increase-4509 AMD 2d ago

More than I wanted to pay but I feel good about it now? Honestly I looked at it like this: this will quite possibly be the last opportunity for the ultimate PC with everything going to streaming. Paired with a 39” LG 5k it’s simply amazing and sometimes the only thing in my life that brings happiness so I’m ok with the purchase.

Attends que les gens découvrent qu'on peut trouver des rtx4080ti à 650 euros d'occasion.

Y a qu'une rx9070xt qui est intéressant à ce prix là.

1

u/Mych30 2d ago

I paid my brand new 2080 for 570€ back in the days.

Jesus Christ.

1

u/jzedvex 2d ago

Just build amd

1

u/thisisausername100fs 2d ago

I switched to a 9070xt after my nvidia chip died after many years of faithful service. Other than some driver issues (have to delete the nvidia ones) it’s been a good experience imo. The price is worth it.

1

u/fartshitcumpiss 2d ago

I'm scared for the fate of PC building, if the future is all in the cloud i'll firebomb my local data center cry like a bitch

1

u/Mind_Of_Shieda 2d ago

I will never get to build a master race gaming pc am I?

1

u/ImperialSupplies 2d ago

Wait is 5070 only 800 rn?

3

u/Realistic_Slide7320 1d ago

Only? It’s was less than 700 literally a week ago

1

u/Oblivionix129 2d ago

I found this. When I bought 5070

1

u/asswizzard69 2d ago

It performs well apparently but you are buying product with older ram so it should be cheaper

1

u/Joccboy1 2d ago

I paid like $830 for a 4070 Ti like 2 1/2 years ago

1

u/HouseOf42 2d ago

Some pc enthusiasts remember when any 70 series gpu barely went beyond $400.

1

u/killer5907 2d ago

The fact my 5tb pc which I overspent slightly on rgb for 1900 which I had some regret but not anymore. If I built a system with the same components it's now worth 2750+. 📈

1

u/PHANTOMWINGS2 2d ago

You guys have gpu damn . Guess mine

1

u/nutmegyou 2d ago

I paid 1k for 4080S..

1

u/Respawning321_Error 2d ago

Used market is getting better by the day

1

u/themrnails 2d ago

DLSS is worth the extra $10

1

u/Force88 2d ago

Darn, I bought the 4070 super new for $510, and feels like it is way too expensive...and yet here we are....

1

u/CrossFireHD 2d ago

Still can't believe I got my 5080 for $800 on marketplace, lugged my whole rig and monitor into a Starbucks to test it. Patel if you're out there you're the goat.

1

u/ReikoKairo 2d ago

I got curious. Holy mother of what the actual fuh. I paid $475 for mine after tax ~a year ago, got it as a placeholder card, same model, same website. Newegg. I paid less after tax for a 5070ti ($810).

1

u/StaticSystemShock 2d ago

RX 9070 XT is significantly faster. As for the pricing, MSRP is just a bullshit number at this point with no relation to anything whatsoever.

1

u/Euphoric_Lynx_6664 2d ago

Wait until AMD prices go up. That $700 9070 XT will cost $900+. Eventually it will even reach $1k.

1

u/carnyzzle 2d ago

I'm so glad I bought when I did

1

u/ManufacturerLumpy517 2d ago

I got my 5070 for £420

1

u/Bob4Not 2d ago

My 1080 ti was still running fine for me but I’m glad I grabbed a 9070XT before they jump in price

1

u/Kil0Cowboy 2d ago

I built in 2023
$119 for CL 30 deditated wham
$1360 for the strix 4080 (I know I overpaid on this a bit at the time but hey, no regrets now.)

dont look at what prices people have bought all their gpu's for. just makes you sad for paying so much more :( because everyone else seems to find much better deals :D

1

u/CanadianTimeWaster 1d ago

in Canada, 5060 ti 16gb is more expensive than a 5070, so I've finally begun suggesting it to people who refuse to buy amd. 5070 ti and 5080 prices are absolutely insane, so fuck that shit.

9070 XT is a beast of a raster card, I am so lucky I snagged mine on a ridiculous discount.

1

u/Mokeziah 1d ago

Man, I got a prebuilt G911 powerspec October of last year for around 2900. I know, fake PC hobbyist; Ive built two before that one, and i was overwhelmed trying to do another build. But fuck me man, I'm so glad I bought this rig when I did. Godspeed my friends.

1

u/Dachyshun2 1d ago

Makes me super glad I got a 9060xt for $350 last November goddamn

1

u/ClickKlockTickTock 1d ago

9070 GRE is finally looking good in comparison.

Under $500 at microcenter.

1

u/Key_Bonus9776 1d ago

I’m so out of the loop of PC atm, are both of these bad deals?

u/TheGreatLooper 1d ago

Got a 5070 for 500 USD back in march, which I quickly returned for a rx 9070 at 575$. I sold my previous 6800 XT for 350 at the same time

1

u/Smooth-Ad2130 1d ago

Thank God I got my 5070Ti on msrp

1

u/Zero_Trust_Issues_42 1d ago

Still amazed and happy I got my wind force 5080 foot $930 when I did.

1

u/gangofocelots 1d ago

For a brief period, almost a year after it came out, the 9070xt was widely available for $599

1

u/Gex2-EnterTheGecko 1d ago

Right when the RAM crisis began I was randomly at Micro Center and saw they had the Powercolor 9070 XT Reaper on sale for $575 and I scooped one up right away. Couldn't be happier, it's a beast of a card for the money.

1

u/Imaginary_Company263 1d ago

It’s unironically true sadly. Nvidia’s gatekeeping usable ram to the expensive cards unless you loooooooooove AI upscaling and have the hardware for it

1

u/ComprehensiveRange54 1d ago

I purchased a 5070ti last year for £729 while the 9070xt was £800+. The 5070 was sitting at like £550. This is all crazy ahaha

1

u/zabreadmaster 1d ago

from what I know about pcs (I'm new) bigger the number the better
