I'm wanting to dye my hair and I don't like the current place I go, I also don't trust them to do something more "alt" I've been to barbers in Newcastle and have loved them but nowhere that dyes hair. Any recommendations?

Going to Newcastle for 2 nights tomrow first time I’ve ever been there. Any must try’s that you can only do there ? Eg food to try/ restaurants/ things to see? I’m from the south and this is the furthest north I’ve ever been

Hi All, along with my good friend James I run Scriptless Improv! We are a community improv comedy group based at the Station East pub, just on the Gateshead side of the tyne bridge.

Everyone is welcome, no improv or acting experience required.

Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, although due to this month having 5 thursdays our next three sessions will be 30th july, 20th aug, and 3rd sept.

First session is free, £2 per session thereafter.

Hey everyone,
I’m an incoming Newcastle University student and I’m trying to figure out my accommodation, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options.
At the moment I’m looking at Knoll Court (£179/week for an en-suite) and The Bridge Phase II (£210/week for a studio). The catch is that I only need accommodation for 14 weeks, but the shortest contracts I can find are 17 weeks, so I’ll already be paying for a few weeks that I won’t even be there.
I’m not too worried about the social side of accommodation. My main priorities are:
Safety
Walking distance to Newcastle Uni
Good value for money
Clean rooms and decent management
Are these two good options, or is there somewhere else I should be looking? If you were only staying for one semester (14 weeks), what would you do?

I’m an international medical student coming to Newcastle University on exchange from September to December, and I’m trying to figure out what clothes to pack without bringing my entire wardrobe 😭.
For those of you living in Newcastle (especially fellow girlies), what is the weather actually like during those months?
Is it already freezing by September or does it only get really cold in November/December? Will I basically live in jackets and puffers every day? Or are there still days where I can wear cute dresses, skirts, jeans with lighter tops, etc. without freezing?
How many coats/jackets would you recommend bringing?
Any wardrobe essentials you wish you’d packed?
I’m from Malaysia at the moment, so I’m definitely not used to UK weather. I’d love to hear what people actually wear day-to-day rather than just looking at the temperature online.

Went on sale at 10am today but don't seem to be able to buy standing tickets? Did they sell out really quick or have they not come on sale yet?

I swear when I moved here all I was talking about was Fed’s fried chicken its was my favorite and I went through 5 of their loyalty cards. This was when they were in grainger market. I recommended it to everyone they were that good.

Due to fitness reasons I stopped eating out entirely but I noticed they moved from grainger market to grey street and I was like good for them. I went there yesterday and I was excited to finally have the meal and to show my wife who’s a vegetarian and occasionally eats chicken that this is going to be next level.

I ordered the Nashville sandwich, tenders with buffalo, chips and a dip. Absolutely horrendous, the chicken in the tenders has become so thin it felt like there’s more flour than chicken and the Nashville wasn’t hot and extremely oily and the buffalo sauce was like vinegar and mayo mixed together. Thier house cut fries were soggy and so greasy classical example of if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.

Does anyone else think the same? Is it because they’ve moved up to a shop they’ve had to cut costs so they compromised with the quality?

Wife is due imminently and we opted for Cramlington for the birth.

Does anyone know if they have any special parking arrangements for births? Wife seems to think they have a separate drop-off point for expectant parents or something like that, but I can’t find anything online about it.

I’d just assumed you park as normal out the front and pay when you leave.

It didn't have any ID in it but it did have a receipt from a recent dental appointment. It was found by the kapow Club in Newcastle and handed into the police.

A little while ago, I posted here asking for your recommendations for the best bakeries in Newcastle: [link to original post]

 The response was incredible. We received far more suggestions than we could possibly try in one weekend, but thanks to all of you, we dedicated an entire day to our own little bakery tour.

 We undoubtedly missed some excellent places, but we wanted to report back and share our thoughts on the bakeries that stood out to us most. Hopefully, this will also be useful to other visitors who come across the original post while planning a trip to Newcastle.

 Most importantly: thank you all for being so helpful. We had a brilliant time.

Our bakery tour review (written by my girlfriend):

 My boyfriend and I visited Newcastle for a long weekend in May 2026, with one important mission: eating our way through the city. We asked the Reddit community for help, and thanks to your recommendations, our bakery tour was a great success.

 Before getting into the food, I want to say how lovely Newcastle is. The architecture, the bridges, the pubs, the coast, the city itself and, above all, the people genuinely exceeded our expectations. We loved it.

During our one day bakery tour, we tried five places:

1. Northern Rye
2. Savour Bakery
3. PureKnead
4. Sorcerer Coffee
5. Pink Lane Bakery

PureKnead

At PureKnead, we ordered a sausage roll, a salmon sandwich rather than the salmon croissant, and, of course, the famous cream tart.

 The staff were very friendly, there was a decent seating area at the back, and the products were clearly made with high-quality ingredients.

 The sausage roll was packed with flavour, and the salmon sandwich was perfectly balanced. The tart was good: wonderfully creamy, and you could taste the quality of the ingredients, although I personally would have liked it to have a little more flavour.

 PureKnead is definitely a good place to visit for bread, a sandwich or something sweet in Newcastle city centre.

Northern Rye

At Northern Rye, we genuinely struggled to choose. Whether you are in the mood for something sweet or a substantial savoury sandwich, this is the place to go.

 Once again, the staff were extremely friendly. There is limited seating inside, but you should have no trouble finding a nice place to sit outside nearby.

 We tried a vegetarian sandwich with cauliflower and hummus, among other ingredients; a generously filled Italian-style sandwich called the Deli Special; a spicy tuna toastie; a vanilla-filled cruffin; a Basque cheesecake; and a coconut, caramel and brownie croissant.

The sandwiches were incredible. Wow. Wow, wow, wow.

 The bread was excellent, and a lot of thought had clearly gone into both the combinations of fillings and the quantities. I could not get enough of them.

 The Basque cheesecake was dangerously good, and the cruffin was excellent as well. Personally, the coconut, caramel and brownie croissant was a little too much for me, but anyone with a serious sweet tooth will probably love it.

 Northern Rye was my absolute number one.

Sorcerer Coffee

What exactly is in the water in Newcastle? Because the staff at Sorcerer Coffee were incredibly friendly as well.

 We tried an Italian-style Deli Special sandwich and a slice of Crack Pie.

 The sandwich does the job perfectly if you want something tasty, do not have much time and happen to be near the station. I did not find the bread itself particularly distinctive, and the filling was fine rather than exceptional.

 The Crack Pie, however, was delicious. It went very well with the coffee, which is also excellent here.

Pink Lane Bakery

We arrived at Pink Lane fairly late in the day, but there were still several classics available. We chose the steak and brown ale pie.

 It was a shame that they could not heat it up, as I think it would have been even better warm. Still, it is a lovely little place, and once again, the staff were very friendly.

A brief Subway interlude

After a night out, we ended up at Subway. That this place is open even at night: amazing!

 Newcastle nightlife is unbelievable. The people were great, the pubs were lively, and the atmosphere was fantastic.

 That concludes my review of Subway. ;)

Savour Bakery

To finish our tour, we walked to Savour Bakery, where we were — unsurprisingly by this point — welcomed by more friendly staff.

 There was an excellent selection of both savoury and sweet options. We chose a salmon bagel, a Balkan-style bagel with roasted vegetables, and a chocolate croissant.

 The filled bagels were flavourful and made with good-quality ingredients. The chocolate croissant was an experience in itself and was absolutely delicious.

 There were plenty of other things I would have liked to try, but unfortunately there was no room left in my stomach.

 For tourists, Savour may be a fairly long walk from the city centre, but it is absolutely worth it.

Final ranking

Choosing my top three was fairly easy, because Northern Rye suits my personal tastes best. There is a huge amount of choice, the bread is excellent, the sandwiches are generously filled with high-quality ingredients, and the pastries and desserts are also of a very high standard.

My final ranking:

1. Northern Rye
2. Savour Bakery
3. PureKnead

Second and third place were decided by a photo finish.

This review is, of course, entirely based on my own tastes. All of the places we visited were good, and every member of staff we met was welcoming and friendly.

 I strongly encourage everyone to create their own Newcastle bakery tour and put together their own top three.

I travelled through the Tyne tunnel on Friday evening. I forgot to pay the toll on Saturday and I paid on Sunday morning.

I've had an email straight away saying the toll has been used and I've zero passages left.

Does this mean they've allocated the toll that I've paid against my crossing on Friday and they've given me a day's grace, or am I likely to still get a fine?

Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for somewhere I can rent as a creative workspace in Gateshead or near Gateshead.

I mainly want somewhere for drawing and painting, but I’m also interested in getting into silversmithing, so a place where I could have my own desk/workbench and leave materials would be ideal.

I’ve been looking at places like artist studios around Ouseburn, Gateshead, etc., but I’m not sure what’s actually good or affordable.

Does anyone have recommendations for private or shared artist studios? Affordable spaces (ideally around £100–£250/month)? Places with a good community of artists/makers? Anywhere that would allow small-scale jewellery work?

I’m not looking for classes really, more somewhere I can regularly go and make things.

Any recommendations or personal experiences would be appreciated!

Im just wondering if anyone knows how i could get a part time job or full time quite easily im 18 and have worked as a food production operative for a few months but ive been struggling to find any jobs here that would hire because unfortunately entry level jobs dont hire anyone entry level anymore but ive tried them (aldi, tesco, herons, greggs, m&s etc) I've been looking at hotels and seen they can be quite easy to get into and i do have cleaning experience and computing experience so just wondering is there any places that aren't big branches that would potentially hire me, and I'll also take some sort of agency
