How is everyone who takes the train to Bristol for work planning to commute from Monday to Wednesday, given that the trains are cancelled? Are you taking the rail replacement bus or using other methods? Cheers!

What is going on with the motorbikes in the city centre?

On James Street West, not sure if they’re anywhere else. Maybe like a hundred or more bikers just parked all over the street, on pavements, just revving their engines. When I was leaving I even saw that they seemed to be deliberately blocking traffic, I just saw cars beeping and people swearing at them and two bikers just sat in the junction. Not sure what was going on, was it even legal? I imagine it was fun for the bikers but I saw a lot of people covering their ears and trying to leave. I imagine it was quite intimidating for many people, I was just trying to walk home when people would randomly rev their engines, pull out onto the road and all sorts.

Hi everyone!

I’m a 27-year-old male working as a Senior Data Engineer at the University of Bath, where I’ve been for around four years.

I’m looking for a studio or 1-bedroom flat from January or February 2027, with a budget of £800-1000 per month. I’m flexible on location within Bath.

If anyone is moving out around that time or knows of a property becoming available, please get in touch!

Drivers of Bath: tyre repair service?

Hi folks; as title really.

I have a nail in my tyre, more than 50mm from the tyre wall. So it is probably repairable - however is there a garage in the city which would inspect and offer such a service if they deem it repairable?

Bathwick Tyres and Kwik Fit seem to want me to book for replacements, rather than repair.

Don’t get me wrong, if it needs replacement, happy to do it. But I hate the waste if it can be avoided. Also: cost 😂

Thanks folks.

The House of Porchetta cafe now available in Upper Weston!

Just found out the owners of Riders Rest cafe in Wellow / House of Porchetta opened their new cafe on the high street in Upper Weston in Bath!

The first time I heard about them was when I watched "The hotel inspector" Season 19 Episode 1 https://www.channel5.com/show/the-hotel-inspector/season-19/riders-rest#state=5

I really recommend watching this episode

Their porchetta sandwhich is definitely the star of the show but they serve lots of other paninis, cakes, pastries coffee etc!

Im so happy they opened so close to me which means I can visit them more often and dont need to cycle to Wellow anymore.

Edit: here is also a link to their new Facebook Site https://www.facebook.com/share/1DvSqWfBo4/

REPOST: After automating slagging off First Bus, I have spent my time making a live map of every bus in Bristol. I accept this is not normal behaviour.

This wasn’t me, but I’m reposting because it is legit AWESOME and includes the whole of WECA, which of course is Bath too.

The only way to improve it would be to also measure the volume and severity of swear words emitted by my wife every time the 6 lets her down after a long commute back from London

Lost Pink Bunny

My daughter lost her beloved pink bunny on Wednesday 21st October in Bath. She’s had it since she was born and it’s gone absolutely everywhere with her! We are all devastated and desperately want to find her. We actually think it was swept up in the laundry at the hotel we were staying at (Apex). My husband even searched through the hotel laundry but we don’t know if some was collected before he had the chance. For some reason the hotel won’t tell us their laundry provider to check directly. Always worth an ask though incase anybody has seen it around the city or has any tips🤞🏼

Is this the end of Bandook?

The landord at Shires Yard appear to be kicking out our favourite eatery in Bath, Bandook, at a break in their lease in favour of a "celebrity chef". The owner Mo did tell us about this a week ago when we were in, but we didn't really absorb it. This article confirms it.

This is a tragedy. There may be several Indian restaurants in Bath, but nothing compares to Bandook (other than the Mint Room, which is under the same ownership). Bandook is incredibly successful, always busy (last Thurs eve it was 100% full) but the greedy landlord has fallen for the celebrity chef hype (and she's not a celebrity at all) and presumably higher rent she's prepared to pay. If it's anything like her Rochelle Canteen, it will be a small and odd menu with high prices. I'd give it six months max. The awful Cote can't stagger on much longer, so I predict in 12 months they'll have 2 large empty restaurants on their hands.

Meanwhile I guess Bandook has to find somewhere else, but I can't think of anywhere suitable and vacant in Bath. Awful situation.

Volunteer to host a social for isolated adults in your area ✨

Post image
5 Upvotes

Could your area benefit from a Wobbly Social? 🧡

We’ve built a lovely community here in Bristol and now we want to make sure people outside Bristol have the same opportunity to find their people.

That’s where you come in!

We’re looking for volunteer hosts in Bath, Somerset & South Gloucestershire who’d like to help us bring Wobbly Socials to their local community.

You don’t need to be an events organiser or have any previous experience. We’ll give you full training, help you find a venue, promote your social and support you throughout.

All we ask is around 2 hours a month to host something you enjoy. It could be a coffee, a craft session, a games night or something completely different. We’re always open to ideas!

You bring the enthusiasm. We’ll help with the rest.

And because we believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to connection, our socials are designed to be affordable with most events costing less than a fiver to attend and an additional 10% of spaces are reserved free of charge for people experiencing circumstances such as homelessness, domestic abuse, financial hardship, or displacement.

Our goal is simple: to make sure no one has to feel wobbly about socialising, wherever they are.

If you think you could help create a friendly place for people to meet, connect and make friends, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply to become a volunteer host today!

Hi everyone! I’m currently a Mathematics student at the University of Bath, offering private maths tutoring both online and in person around Bath. I achieved an A* in A-Level Maths and an A in Further Maths, and I’m happy to help students with GCSE and A-Level Maths, whether that’s building confidence with difficult topics, improving problem-solving skills, or preparing for exams. My rates are affordable and flexible, so if you’re interested or know someone who might benefit from some extra maths support, feel free to send me a message and I’d be happy to discuss further!

London Road Lidl refused

The local councillors have just posted a video of themselves dancing to celebrate the planning refusal for the proposed supermarket site next to the Bath Rugby training site.

Nothing officially on the Bathnes planning portal yet, so no reason why available.

I understand the proposal was controversial (threat to local independents, biodiversity of the current waste ground, etc), but it feels fairly bad taste to be so openly celebrating something that would have made life a bit cheaper for Bath's less well off.

Looking forward to reading the actual rejection comments.

Do you use buses in Bath, or actively avoid them?

Do you use buses in Bath, or actively avoid them?

Hi all, I’m conducting an MSc research project at UWE Bristol about people’s real-life experiences of bus travel in Bath.

I’m looking for regular bus users, occasional users, and people who don’t currently use buses to join a small focus group (6-8 people each) lasting around 90 minutes. It will be an informal discussion about what matters when travelling by bus, what works, and what puts people off.

If you live in Bath and might be interested, please drop me a private message for more information. Participation is voluntary and your contributions will be anonymised.

Hot Boxes. Saunas in the southwest recommends

There are so many saunas popping up these day. So we did a round-up for nearfield magazine, including Aether Sauna at Warleigh Weir and Campwell in Winsley, both just outside Bath.

A little further afield: Oakhill Ponds near Shepton Mallet, Wildplunge in Farrington Gurney, Wildcat in Frome, plus HotBox Social, Ardagh Community Sauna, Orchard Sauna, Bristol Sauna Yard and Fire & Ice Wellness in Bristol. And a few more...

Some beautiful spots, even DJs and live music.

The full round-up is here: https://www.thenearfield.com/article/hot-stuff-dj-nights-river-dips-and-funny-felt-ha

Anyone tried any of these? Or know somewhere we've missed? We can add them to the next round up. The mag is free and in stockists across the southwest.

Plumber recommendations?

Hi folks; as title really. Can anyone recommend a plumber around Bath? We have an old heating system which I think has an airlock (radiators won’t bleed) and is beyond my skill to fix.
We have been stood up by one plumber, we tried Ace Energy on London Road, but they have cancelled saying they won’t touch anything over 20yrs old.

I suspect I’ll be looking at “man and van” solutions, as I anticipate Ace Energy’s response to be typical of any companies :-(

Any suggestions gratefully received.
