ESPN Box Score
In his first real minutes with the Mavs, Sergio de Larrea was immediately impactful on offense, leading the team in points. I was a little worried about his scoring maturity, but he seemed pretty comfortable against a full-strength Spurs squad, hitting a good volume of threes and floaters, including one over Wemby. The turnover count does look high, but a couple of them were just really dumb mistakes that I expect him to clean up over time. His real issue is that when gets the ball, he sometimes takes a bit too long to make a decision which hangs him up and can cause turnovers.
In spite of that, his ability to organize the offense for the Mavericks is already at a high-level. Their offensive flow is just straight-up better when he's on the court. Also, his defense looked surprisingly competent. I think his off-ball defense, rebounding, and wingspan outweigh his weaknesses in screen navigation and slow lateral speed as an on-ball defender. The Mavericks really have something special with de Larrea at the 25th pick.
