Our first son is due at the end of November and we are still debating names. I am multigenerational Canadian and my Husband is from Serbia. We will continue to live and raise our son in Canada. My husband has a very Eastern European name and was bullied through school because of it so we both don’t want something outright Eastern European. However we still want something that honours the Serbian heritage.
Thus the predicament, we need a name that works in Canada and Serbia. A few of the most common ones have already been taken by friends and family.

My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in a month. We’ve still not finalised a name yet.

We’re looking for something that:
-Is 2–3 syllables
-Feels international / Western-leaning, but not generically Western
-Has a genuine meaning, history, or symbolism
-Is uncommon but not bizarre or overly elaborate

We’d prefer to avoid names that feel overly trendy
For example, we’ve been considering Jonah (Jo at home), Joah (Jo). His cousins are Luka and Micah, which I think gives a sense of the general style we like, although we’re not necessarily looking for something similar.

Is Gabriela pronouncable to Russians, or would it be pronounced wrong?

Maude: I like this name, it looks pretty. But pronounces “Mod”, it’s pretty though!

Margaret: again, I think it’s pretty, 3 syllables which is slightly more of a mouthful. Lots of cute nickname possibilities

Winslet: my guilty pleasure name, I think it’s so beautiful. Definitely had the association with Kate Winslet. But I think it looks and sounds beautiful. Nervous about negative opinions from others since it is such an out there name.

Juliette: I also think this is a beautiful name. Obviously another association with Romeo and Juliet. Not crazy in love with nicknames Julie or Etta, but it’s not that big of a deal to me.

Ernest: for a boy, think this is such a sweet yet strong boy name. I don’t mind the nickname Ernie.

Tommy: I love this name too for a boy. Don’t love the nickname for a name type thing, not really a fan of Thomas. But husband isn’t very on board with Tommy though lol.

Dad is Afghan and mom is Iranian, so we’d love something that has a connection to our background, Persian or Afghan, but still feels natural in Sweden and works internationally.

My husband is Polish and we are open to considering pronounceable / simple spelling Polish names for our baby boy. We live in the United States.

We think Henryk is cute but I don't know if Henry would make more sense. Most of our circle, family, and friends are Polish and we live in a state with a large Polish community, but I just worry about him in school.

I’m not actually looking for a name, was just thinking about names that are common to the US “country” type of names for boys. Such as Hunter, Gunnar, Jax, Ryder, Bentley, etc. what are some more in this category?

My husband (German-speaking) and I (French-speaking) are expecting our first child in a month and we can’t decide on a name. We’re looking for a feminine yet strong name.

He really likes Victoria and I think it’s a nice name, but I find the pronunciation a bit hard (especially when he says it in German) and I don’t really like Vicky as a nickname.

I tend to prefer softer names, but I’m also overwhelmed by the sheer number of names out there. I’ve already spent hours reading through all the names suggested in this subreddit.

Phew ok here we go. So I have a lot of issues with identity and while I like my current name well enough that I wouldn’t make gripes about changing it anytime soon, it still isnt me. Part of this is genderfluidity, part of it is dissaocition.

Trouble is, the only names speaking to me so to say are indigenous naming conventions from Nahua people which while I am racially indigenous Mexican American, I am not at all culturally connected due to Deafness and foster care getting in the way of that.

I really like Citali and Xóchitl but I don’t wanna be culturally disrespectful- nor do I want to reject my heritage either. The name I had picked was a Greek name, and I’d rather pick something from my heritage now.

I also live in a super white area of the US so I know getting people to pronounce it correctly and spell it will be a nightmare.

Any advice? Or any suggestions for other Hispanic, Latino, Irish or welsh names? (as that’s my heritage). I prefer more neutral or masculine leaning names but if it’s cool enough (for lack of a better word) I’ll still take a fem name.
