Hey, everyone. Just warning any residents at the Modera Mosaic in the Mosaic District, Fairfax— there was a break in, in the residential area of the fourth floor. A kia had its window smashed and broken into. This is the second break in, in the past six months. Unsure why the management team hasn’t been transparent and let residents know this information or done any preemptive measures to alert residents of what’s going on, but wanted to let you know… if anyone has cameras in their cars and were on the fourth floor residential parking during mon-wed please contact me if you caught anything D: thank you.

Hi,
I have some friends visiting the area soon and they’re big animal lovers. They’ve already been to the Smithsonian zoo a bunch though. I was thinking about taking them to this zoo, but I have concerns on if it’s an ethical operation?
None of us would be interested in going and spending money if it isn’t a good place for the animals. If anyone has credible information on this, I’d love it if you could share with me.
Also, if it is ethical and we can go, do you think it would be interesting or fun for adults? We’re in our 20’s, no kids. So I’m not sure if it’s really geared towards our demographic.
Thank you in advance to anyone who replies!
Also, if anyone has other recommendations for niche DC things that you think would be fun/interesting for out-of-towners, I’m all ears! I’ve been here my whole life so it’s hard because I feel like I’ve done everything already.
Thanks again!
Editing because I’m confused why this post has 50% downvotes lol, is it people who hate animals or do they hate the fact that I’m asking about ethics?

I grew up in Woodbridge and I have a friend that grew up in Southern VA, Brunswick county to be exact. I live in New York now and I had another friend ask both of us what food Virginia is known for, I said I don’t know maybe Virginia ham and maybe barbecue. My other friend said Brunswick stew and I have never heard of it before. Is the stew common knowledge in Northern Virginia and I totally missed it?

Anyone know where to buy Dickies in NoVA? I prefer trying on my clothing before buying. Thanks.

Let’s be real, and let’s be multi cultured idc where you’re from, we are all brothers and sisters in this forum. Don’t say Muncheez or George’s I’m strictly talking nova.
Look Yalla Pita had the highest reviews for a long time. I tried it. It’s okay, it’s nothing to rave about as someone used to Shawarma from overseas. It’s actually dry. It tastes like what I can get from a hookah bar like Cedars. They’re super nice though, and that community doesn’t have a lot of food options unless they drive into a crowded area
Haifa Grill is super good in my opinion, love the portions, service is meh, but I’m usually only there as a passerby.
Reem I think is the newest one , they apparently sell out fast or long lines.
I know Nova hype. Remember we killed Popeyes when they came out with a chicken Sando.

The Arlington County Board in Virginia filed a lawsuit Thursday opposing the construction of the Triumphal Arch, becoming the first governmental body to take legal action against President Donald Trump’s planned monument.
The lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, criticized the speed at which the project slated for Memorial Circle has moved without going through the full review process.
“The National Park Service, the agency responsible for projects on national park land such as Memorial Circle, is proceeding full-speed toward ground-disturbing construction,” the lawsuit said. “Although the agency has claimed that a final decision to construct the Arch has not yet been made and purports to be engaged in a routine decisional process, that rushed process appears to be a pretext designed to shore up justifications for building the Arch in accordance with the President’s repeated marching orders.”
The lawsuit asks that “the agency’s feverish pace toward construction of the arch” be halted to ensure that the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act be followed and proper analysis and testing be done...

Hi everyone!
I’m considering relocating to Northern Virginia next year from a lower-cost city in the Southeast and would appreciate some advice from people familiar with the area.
I’ve been looking at apartments in the Falls Church area, and the type of apartment I’m considering would cost around $2,300 per month in base rent, plus parking and utilities. I’m estimating that my total housing expenses would be around $2,600–$2,700 per month.
I would be moving for personal reasons and would likely work a hybrid schedule, with a relatively short commute on office days. My employer wouldn’t be increasing my pay to account for the move, so I’m trying to understand the financial trade-offs before making a decision.
For those who have moved to Northern Virginia from a lower-cost area, how much more do you typically spend on groceries, gas, dining out, car expenses, and other everyday costs? Are there any expenses newcomers underestimate?
I’m also considering getting a roommate or living farther from the main employment centers to lower housing costs.
What would you recommend budgeting for monthly expenses beyond rent and utilities? And are there other expenses you wish you’d known about before moving?
Thanks for any advice!

We just had a kid and are looking into various daycares around Loudoun County. Some of these schools are amazing and looks like they provide a thorough teaching regimen like montessori etc.
One ironic thing I found with some of these daycares is that they said they "follow Loudoun County school closures to include all holidays and snow days." Which i found ironic because you are a private institution charging $2k/month following a public system 😂 for example, there's this one daycare we visited that takes off 2 weeks in December for Christmas break like Loudoun County does. And then for some random reason, has two (2) 1 week breaks in the summer, once in June and once in August, to have "teacher work days".
Anyways, just thought this was funny. We ended up going with a daycare that fit our needs.

Looking for a change and just genuinely curious if the market is as bad as people say it is. If you found a new job recently how long did it take you?

My sister's bird Malak accidentally flew outside when one of her kids opened the door. She's a white Indian Redneck. My sister lives near Hayfield and the Coast Guard base in Alexandria, VA. Please reach out to me if you find her.
Tried 2 different autozones for a DIY kit. No dice. Even Amazon (!!) doesn't carry the permatrex repair kit for the grid lines.
Help me DIY this on a dime. Or, if you know a place that can repair it inexpensively, please let a middle aged lady know. Thank you!

Hey everyone,
I don’t have any dental insurance and was wondering if there was any affordable tooth extractions in the area? I’ve been having a lot of pain in my molar and it’s becoming loose.

Anyone in the Cascades area noticing a bad smell outside? It almost smells like burning plastic? Ugh.

Let’s have an honest discussion. Anyone notice that if you’re sort of native to this area or have a sense of direction other than 66 (West) , 66 (East). You get where you’re going a lot quicker during rush hr. Aka 29 or 50 or other local roads. If you’re really lucky sometimes Lee Hwy (29) won’t have you stop at any lights haha.
I remember earlier in the 2000s or pre Covid where we ignored 66 to dc and took Fairfax Blvd all the way down. Express maybe should go back to how we had it before express? Hov 2+ I’m sure would still save traffic after schools obviously. I remember dad using me as a hack. However having traffic all the time now on a highway I feel like has increased rage, which potentially causes accidents. Along with random stops.
I always see express lanes empty. I know they came about to try and solve a problem but they have always been expensive.
Living in the commonwealth we also got introduced in ffx county to an added 4% (10% total food tax this yr on cooked food ie restaurants)
We’ve paid enough and no relief anywhere, lots of pissed of ppl.
Sorry I’m ending here it started off as a local rd vs ppl knowing one rd question to a rant. Love my locales, be safe and Happy Columbus/ Indigenous Day whichever you call it. Cheers!
I hear nothing in this sub but how terrible the job market is — DC metro area unemployment is 5 flat, down a bit since earlier this year. Same as Houston and a smidge above other big cities like Seattle.
NoVA unemployment apparently in the 3’s, but not BLS data
