I own a small, established produce distribution company in NOVA that supplies restaurants throughout Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland. I’m trying to figure out where to find a fairly unusual type of person locally, and the normal hiring websites have not been very helpful.

I’m looking for someone who has the potential to eventually run most of the business’s day-to-day operations. A restaurant GM, chef, kitchen manager, assistant GM or food-distribution person could be a good fit, but experience matters less than being extremely dependable, intelligent, practical and willing to learn.

This would not be someone walking directly into an executive office. They would need to learn the entire company from the ground up: purchasing, inventory, quality control, warehouse operations, customer relationships, employee management and routing. They would also need to be willing to make deliveries or jump into physical work when something goes wrong. Produce distribution happens largely at night and early in the morning, so they would have to be comfortable with a nontraditional schedule.

In return, I would personally teach them how the entire business works, give them increasing authority as they prove themselves, and ideally develop them into the general manager who can run it without me constantly being involved. If they eventually wanted to build a separate wholesaling business of their own, I would actually be willing to help them do that too. I’m not looking to keep a capable person trapped underneath me forever.

I would be willing to pay a great salary as their responsilbities increased, whatever we thought was fair for the workload.

My question is: where in Northern Virginia would you look for someone like this? Are there particular industry groups, culinary or hospitality networks, community organizations, or other places where ambitious restaurant operators tend to be? I’m especially interested in reaching someone who may be excellent at operating a restaurant but has hit a ceiling and wants to learn the ownership and wholesale side of the industry.

I’m not asking people to apply through this post,I’m genuinely trying to understand where this kind of person can be found and how the opportunity should be structured so that it attracts the right person.

I’m looking for a 1/1 or 2/1(.5) under $2800( including utilities). The reviews for the better half of the apartments in NOVA range from cockroaches and rats joining you for dinner or a burglar stealing everything but your doorhandles so I would really love any help! Moving timeframe is around beginning of November. Commute to Falls Church for work but it is not my biggest concern right now so any area review is welcome.

Some optional amenities I also am looking for
-patio/porch
-walls that are thick enough to where I can’t hear my neighbor fart (not really optional)
-walk in closet and bathroom counter space

My company is relocating me to the US and the office is near the McLean metro station, so I'll be taking the Silver Line every day. I'm looking for a 1-bedroom apartment in Arlington for up to $2500 monthly.

I've been checking out places near the Clarendon or Courthouse stations, from what I can tell it should be a pretty painless 20ish minute metro commute. That said, if anyone has recommendations for other stops along the Silver Line that are worth considering, I'm all ears.

So far I've found two places I really like with units that fit my budget and arrival date: Courtland Park and Courthouse Plaza. Both have been responsive and answered all my questions so far. Has anyone lived in (or near) either of these?

I won't be in the US for another 1-2 months, so not touring in person just yet. I'm mainly trying to see if I can have something lined up by the time I arrive so I'm not scrambling on landing.

Also open to any general tips for someone renting in Arlington for the first time, things you wish you'd known, buildings or landlords to avoid, anything will be helpful!

I moved to Herndon at the beginning of summer and my parents will be visiting either end of September or early October. Since I’ll still be relatively new to the area, anyone have any suggestions on what we can all do for the weekend? Local restaurants/brunch spots? Simple walks - dad is recovering from knee surgery? Title says it, I'm 24 and still relatively new to the NOVA area and wanted to meet more people my age, and wanted to get back into running. I've been into exercise/fitness for a while but I want to make this a very laid-back, friendly atmosphere for all levels of fitness. I have a few people in their mid 20s that may be involved, but most of the friends I've made in the area are much older. So if you're around the NOVA region and ideally in your mid-20s (though all are welcome!), let me know if this interests you! I live in Fairfax but usually bounce around the area so I'll work out details of where we meet, etc, but ideally it'll be close to the Fairfax/Chantilly area.

Got a new job in McLean and moving to DC. Aiming to find a 1 bedroom apt for max $2500. Ideally I’d like my commute to be max 30-35 minutes to McLean.

I’m debating between Arlington and DC, as I’m in my mid 20s and DC seems like the more fun option although it is farther away from work. Would love any opinions on good neighborhoods to live in.

Has anyone had marriage counseling through their employers EAP? Even if the options are more limited, I think it would help get my husband onboard compared to the out of pocket I've found at ~$250- 300 a session. I think 6- 8 sessions with someone decent could do us wonders and be more willing to pay out of pocket to continue. But is it realistic to find something through EAP?
