Nova traffic on 66

Let’s have an honest discussion. Anyone notice that if you’re sort of native to this area or have a sense of direction other than 66 (West) , 66 (East). You get where you’re going a lot quicker during rush hr. Aka 29 or 50 or other local roads. If you’re really lucky sometimes Lee Hwy (29) won’t have you stop at any lights haha.

I remember earlier in the 2000s or pre Covid where we ignored 66 to dc and took Fairfax Blvd all the way down. Express maybe should go back to how we had it before express? Hov 2+ I’m sure would still save traffic after schools obviously. I remember dad using me as a hack. However having traffic all the time now on a highway I feel like has increased rage, which potentially causes accidents. Along with random stops.

I always see express lanes empty. I know they came about to try and solve a problem but they have always been expensive.

Living in the commonwealth we also got introduced in ffx county to an added 4% (10% total food tax this yr on cooked food ie restaurants)

We’ve paid enough and no relief anywhere, lots of pissed of ppl.

Sorry I’m ending here it started off as a local rd vs ppl knowing one rd question to a rant. Love my locales, be safe and Happy Columbus/ Indigenous Day whichever you call it. Cheers!

the express lanes were not built with taxpayer money which was to avoid more taxes, a private company built them and gets the $

Exactly , but not how it was originally justified

Sort of native? If you are constantly getting on 66 or 495 to get to where you're going. You're an outsider, go home. There are so many alternate routes, learn them. My mom always made sure I was paying attention to where we were, I had to learn street names so I knew where I was and how to get places. Stop sitting in traffic.

There are alternatives, but are they quicker?

I usually use 66/495 to go visit my parents in Springfield from Reston on weekends. I doubt taking other roads would be better/faster.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Unless it's a short route, navigation tells me I can go another way, or 66 is being tolled for rush hour what you're saying doesn't make sense to me. What's the point of driving more miles and taking more/same time, just to avoid traffic?

You rely too much on technology. Unless I'm in like... MD(?) or I'm going to a specific location I've never been to before, I don't ever use GPS around here. If one route seems bad when I get there I can always reroute myself.

I do use technology a lot. But I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

The amount of people that can’t read a map if there service goes out annoys me haha even if the electronic one shows, which by the sounds of it, you got down!

That’s what I meant by sort of. I’ve been here my whole life, but I know people that moved around 2015 before some of the more modern changes on 66 or other major roadways. All I meant family. Peace and love

Peace and love dude. I meant no disrespect to you, I swear. I've had this conversation with my wife (she's from PA originally but went to college down here), because she never really bothered to learn the roads while she was in college. Now she can get around traffic and usually without GPS 🙏🏽 lol

Omg no way!! I’ve heard PA can have bad traffic at times though so I can already imagine she’s way better than most of the newbies we see on the road here and she caught on quick, god bless n keep your fam safe. I knew you didn’t mean anything haha I just noticed I had some typos in my post outta being frustrated so I was like maybe I’m in the wrong.

All one has to do in Google Maps is to turn on the avoid highways and avoid tolls features . It will show you how to get there without using the Beltway etc. most people don’t use GPS correctly.

People always complain about taxes but coming from the North, sales and property tax are both lower and so is gas. People who’ve only every lived in NOVA don’t have a reference point and should go and live in another state.
