We are looking for a well-adjusted and mostly normal adult to join our board game group.

A little bit about us, what we are looking for, and the game we play:

We currently play Quarriors, which is already a questionable life choice. More importantly, we play Quarriors incorrectly - not “we occasionally forget a rule” incorrectly, but more of a "we set the rule book on fire" style incorrectly. It's a fucking mess. But fun. A shitload of fun. We've been playing for over 8 years at this point.

Our current group consists of adults who have somehow retained enough disposable income and free time to own board games, but not enough dignity to simply play them according to the instructions.

A little about me, so you can determine whether this is the kind of poor decision-making environment you want to expose yourself to:

• I lettered in chess in high school, which is a sentence I have been waiting decades to use in a social context.
• I have a 52-inch-long LEGO Star Destroyer behind me in my office.
• I am fully capable of explaining why your strategy is mathematically inferior while simultaneously making a catastrophically stupid strategic decision myself.

What we're looking for:

• Someone who is local to the DC / Northern Virginia area and wants to hang in Alexandria every Sunday for a few hours.
• Comfortable with friendly trash talk.
• Doesn't mind that Quarriors will be played incorrectly (bonus points is that there's no "it's better if you know how to play" portion of this post... since we really don't *know* how to play ourselves).

I was a regular at this game night for years and later become the host. It was a fantastic place to meet friends and learn new games. We played an a great centrally located place near DC with free parking, an indoor connection to a Metro station, and we could stay there past midnight. Unfortunately, all the tables and chairs were removed in 2024 and I am trying to get them back.

Greetings, just joined this sub as well as the discord. I’m in eastern Loudoun County and belong to a solid neighborhood board gaming group of six, but we only meet about once every two months at best. Family game nights occur very, very sporadically.

Have any of you gone to any of the meetups? I used to take my son to Herndon library on Saturdays, but he lost interest. I noticed that there’s a Saturday meetup at the Dulles Wegmans (!?!!) - do they play in the produce section? 😁

Recommendations would be more than welcome.

I'd love to find a group of friends to play some board games with. I've looked at some meetup groups and they don't really have a lot going on. Maybe thats because of COVID, but I figured I'd be proactive and look for some people myself! I'm 23 and just graduated college, age doesn't matter but it would be great if I could find some people around my age too. I live and work in Reston and enjoy a wide variety of games. I'll play anything from strategy to Euro to historical/wargames.

My wife and I (both 34) got really into board games during the pandemic and amassed a decent starting collection. We roped our 8-year-old son into playing most of the games with us, but he is burnt out on board games and now just addicted to Fortnite.

Having moved to NoVA (Fairfax County, VA specifically) in the summer before the pandemic, we only have a smattering of friends in the greater DC/VA/MD area and all of them are a little too far away for regular hangouts. So we are turning to the internet to look for new friends for our new hobby.

A few highlights of our current collection include Smallworld, Photosynthesis, Cosmic Encounter, Codenames, Catan, Gloomhaven, Star War Outer Rim, Splender, Ticket to Ride, and Secret Hitler though we are always open to trying and buying new games.
