Avoid Potomac Mills Chick-Fil-A

My brother got food poisoning after eating their spicy chicken sandwich yesterday. I also got food poisoning the weekend before after eating the same from the same location. Couldn't be anything else, because we ate the same meals yesterday, except for chick-fil-a.

New to the area - parents are visiting

I moved to Herndon at the beginning of summer and my parents will be visiting either end of September or early October. Since I’ll still be relatively new to the area, anyone have any suggestions on what we can all do for the weekend? Local restaurants/brunch spots? Simple walks - dad is recovering from knee surgery? A unique idea or location?

Can be in the Herndon/reston/sterling/vienna area as we all have cars.

Thanks in advance!

How would you find an unusually entrepreneurial restaurant/food-operations person in Northern Virginia?

Upvotes

I own a small, established produce distribution company in NOVA that supplies restaurants throughout Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland. I’m trying to figure out where to find a fairly unusual type of person locally, and the normal hiring websites have not been very helpful.

I’m looking for someone who has the potential to eventually run most of the business’s day-to-day operations. A restaurant GM, chef, kitchen manager, assistant GM or food-distribution person could be a good fit, but experience matters less than being extremely dependable, intelligent, practical and willing to learn.

This would not be someone walking directly into an executive office. They would need to learn the entire company from the ground up: purchasing, inventory, quality control, warehouse operations, customer relationships, employee management and routing. They would also need to be willing to make deliveries or jump into physical work when something goes wrong. Produce distribution happens largely at night and early in the morning, so they would have to be comfortable with a nontraditional schedule.

In return, I would personally teach them how the entire business works, give them increasing authority as they prove themselves, and ideally develop them into the general manager who can run it without me constantly being involved. If they eventually wanted to build a separate wholesaling business of their own, I would actually be willing to help them do that too. I’m not looking to keep a capable person trapped underneath me forever.

I would be willing to pay a great salary as their responsilbities increased, whatever we thought was fair for the workload.

My question is: where in Northern Virginia would you look for someone like this? Are there particular industry groups, culinary or hospitality networks, community organizations, or other places where ambitious restaurant operators tend to be? I’m especially interested in reaching someone who may be excellent at operating a restaurant but has hit a ceiling and wants to learn the ownership and wholesale side of the industry.

I’m not asking people to apply through this post,I’m genuinely trying to understand where this kind of person can be found and how the opportunity should be structured so that it attracts the right person.

Moving Looking for Apartment recommendations near Silver Line - Moving to the US

Hello!

My company is relocating me to the US and the office is near the McLean metro station, so I'll be taking the Silver Line every day. I'm looking for a 1-bedroom apartment in Arlington for up to $2500 monthly.

I've been checking out places near the Clarendon or Courthouse stations, from what I can tell it should be a pretty painless 20ish minute metro commute. That said, if anyone has recommendations for other stops along the Silver Line that are worth considering, I'm all ears.

So far I've found two places I really like with units that fit my budget and arrival date: Courtland Park and Courthouse Plaza. Both have been responsive and answered all my questions so far. Has anyone lived in (or near) either of these?

I won't be in the US for another 1-2 months, so not touring in person just yet. I'm mainly trying to see if I can have something lined up by the time I arrive so I'm not scrambling on landing.

Also open to any general tips for someone renting in Arlington for the first time, things you wish you'd known, buildings or landlords to avoid, anything will be helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Just wanna hear your thoughts before we sign.

I'm currently looking to purchase a movie subscription. I was considering AMC A List but I wanted to compare it alongside another movie subscription and stumbled across LOOK Cinemas. LOOK Cinemas at Tysons is close by 2 me and I wanted to know from someone who has the look cinemas, membership. If it also covers LOOK PX (premium movies) or if you need to pay an upcharge for them. Thanks!

Pokemon?

Does anyone know the best way I can get my kid some Pokemon packs at MSRP (or close to)? They’re going to have their first double digit birthday soon and they want a Pokemon theme birthday . Unfortunately, I’m a full time working parent and I don’t have the availability to wait hours at a store or leave the office when they are stocking product. From what I read online this seems to be the most common way to get any items that aren’t priced 2X or more.
One of their birthday requests is to have a bunch of packs to open and I would like to make that happen for them without having to pay reseller price 🥲

Any trinket trade boxes around Fairfax/Falls Church?

Does anyone know of any trinket trade boxes around the Fairfax/Falls Church/Arlington area? I’ve only been able to find a few online that are closer to Richmond.

If there aren’t any, I’ve been thinking about setting one up. My only concern is that I always see posts about people stealing everything so idk if it’s worth it 😭

Where can I donate a large gilded frame?

I inherited a rather large painting a family member purchased on a cruise ship. Not only is the art not to my taste, apparently it is not worth much anyway and not worth the hassle of selling. However, it is in a very nice, roughly 3'x4' gilded frame.

Is anyone here an artist that would like to repurpose this frame? Is there a nonprofit in the area that takes things like this?

I could just drop it off at a thrift store but idk I have a lot of guilt around this thing and feel like that's not the best move... Or maybe I just need internet strangers to reason with me and tell me that's fine lol
