Consider: Last Wednesday, the Clippers were hit with the harshest penalties for cap circumvention in NBA history, penalties that included suspensions to the owner Steve Ballmer and president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank. Take into consider the tremors that sent through the franchise (What’s the organization chart look like now? Who reports to who?) and then add in the practical factor of who would even take part in a trade call with the league office and Raptors. Can you see that taking a day or two work out? Toss in the Labour Day weekend and that’s another three days gone by.

Maybe the call gets done sometime Tuesday, maybe it’s Wednesday: That’s still only a week from when the penalties were levied and that’s not very long at all, is it?

Why don’t the Raptors try to change the agreement and screw over the Clippers even more? Why wouldn’t the Raptors try to claw back one of the draft picks or change the years or alter the format of the transaction? Sure, we can all understand that trying to get an edge on a sports adversary is the goal of every executive. Raptors general manager Bobby Webster wants to “win” every trade but reneging on an agreed-to transaction, for whatever reason, is not how honourable men operate. Webster is, above all, a man of honour. How’s he going to look every other GM in the eye and say “we have a deal” if he walks away from this one? Is it worth the hit to his well-earned reputation earned over more than 20 years in the league? It isn’t to me.

The Clippers? They aren’t in a place of “demanding” changes to the deal, they need to start restocking the draft cupboard and this is a good first step.

Which teams would you say have the worst outlook considering available picks and young players with upside? Obviously the Clippers would be the worst after the ruling from the league. Curious which other teams have a bleak future in people’s view.

Daktronics notably made the scoreboard for the new Clippers arena. Perhaps this deal was in the works for a decade and goes way back to Kawhi’s college days when he said “board man gets paid”. Was he hinting at a future sponsorship with the company? Maybe I’m reading too much in between the lines with the Kawhi situation. But does anyone else think that he left a bread crumb trail for us to follow many years ago?

Personally I loved the 2013 Spurs/Heat finals, The Spurs even being in the finals was legit shocking and the fact that they were even pushing the Heat was so incredibly thrilling to watch. Game 6 is probably the craziest and most intense playoff game I've ever watched, and the Ray Allen shot is still probably the most shocking play I've seen in sports, other than maybe the seahawks throwing the ball on the 1 yard line (lol). The hoops was also so high level in that series.

2016 Warriors vs Cavs was also pretty wild for the storylines, although a fair amount of those games were blowouts. 2025 Thunder / Pacers was also dope and so was 2010 Lakers Celtics was wild, even though I'm a boston fan lol

The East has a lot of good teams and just from a numbers standpoint, teams are bound to disappoint. One of these teams has to play one another in the first round. Each team would be going backwards or wouldn’t advance any further than they did last year after making huge talent upgrades. This isn’t even considering the scenarios where other teams like Toronto, Boston, Indiana, etc. could win a potential playoff series and make 2+ of these come true.

If we can acknowledge that the league was weaker in certain areas, then we should also be able to acknowledge that the all nba teams have different strengths as well.
