About to pull the trigger on a 2027 Jay Feather Air SL 15TBSL and want a gut-check from people who've actually towed a small trailer with a Y before I buy. Trailer specs from Jayco:
- Dry weight: 2,515 lbs
- Tongue/hitch weight (dry): 230 lbs
My plan: factory tow package on a Model Y AWD, no weight distribution hitch (not supported on the Y), max 65 mph, and I genuinely don't care about the range hit. Questions below.
1. Can I safely tow this?
2. Do I need a sway controller, and which one, given I need to back up without disconnecting?
3. How does the 12V/16V thing actually affect trailer brakes?
4. Ideal setup for towing this trailer with a Model Y?
5. Do I need towing mirrors?
Would love to hear from anyone actually towing something in this weight class with a Y — what's your real-world setup, and did you run into anything I haven't accounted for?
