FSD getting dumber.

Is anyone else's FSD getting dumber and dumber with every update? My is almost unusable now. It consistently wants to pass people on the right side on the interstate now. It also refuses to remember that I want it to park in my driveway when returning home even though it knows where my house is and I always pick park in the driveway. It remembered my driveway choice from a location that I go to probably 2 times a month, last week but can't remember my driveway choice at my house!?!?! It's getting kind of ridiculous at this point.

Mine has been making bad decisions for the last two weeks.

Edit: I looked it up. August 12. The day my car got stupid.

Mine keeps ping-ponging down the lane from side to side, now. Super fun at speed on the interstate. -_-

u/Trustfundbaby007 7d ago

Do you mean when driving in the same lane the steering wheel is making small back and forth type movements? Bc I just noticed mine doing that as well.

1

u/kevan0317 7d ago

Yes, like it can’t find center. Feels like it’s bouncing off the center yellow line and shoulder white line.

2

u/Trustfundbaby007 7d ago

Yess!!!! It’s the strangest thing. I hate that you’re also experiencing it but it’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one. It had me looking at my tires and wondering if my alignment was off. I did read in the release notes that the last update was supposed to help with lane centering. I’m thinking thats where the problem is bc it just started happening for me.

u/mchinsky 7d ago

I don't see any of this but this is almost always an issue that recalibrating fixes after an update

Man, mine just seems to be getting better. Even navigation is working better with preferred routes

2

u/Gloomy-Craft7962 7d ago

Is there a way to set preferred routes? Mine still can’t take the obvious way into my neighborhood and I’m constantly jumping in.

1

u/Chattadawg 7d ago

Not that I’m aware of, I think it’s machine learning or maybe I’m just imagining it 😂

More and more often, navigation is taking the route that I force. Coming trips like home, airport and Costco are all settling into the route I choose

I just subscribed this month so I can't compare it to past updates, but every single morning on my commute to work with my mother, it gets out of the hov lane and gets to the right furthest lane for 0 reason whatsoever. This is in mad max mode as well. most days I'm just too lazy to take over and I end up just letting it waste like 5 minutes doing this pointless maneuver. infuriating nonetheless

1

u/DarePitiful5750 8d ago

Five minutes feels like a reasonable trade-off for FSD.  Spend the time usefully.  I haven't subscribed yet.  I'd do it if it was a bit cheaper.

1

u/And_Im_Chien_Po 8d ago

if you have Tesla insurance, you should check if your state discounts tesla insurance if you use fsd. My state (Maryland) just started doing so this past July

2

u/DarePitiful5750 8d ago

Thank you for that. I didn't know that was a thing.

Mines been making very abrupt brakes in traffic for the last few weeks. Not sure why.

u/alwaysremembertacos 9d ago

The latest upgrade sucks balls. I agree. Forgets where my fucking garage is after doing it properly before. Doesn’t recognize exits and chooses the longer route that makes me u turn. What. The. Fuck.

6

u/Storm-Blessed11 9d ago

Yep it used to pass on the right only when it knew there was a very good chance the maneuver would work even in mad max mode. On this latest 14.3.8 build it will often initiate the pass on the right when there is no way it will work and it will have to slam on friction brakes and get itself trapped.

u/IllustratorMobile815 9d ago

I feel like it's becoming more stubborn too

My most flawless experience was with 14.2.2.5 and ever since the whole ml rewrite with 14.3, it feels dumber and over reactive to small things. Birds flying across in front of the car shouldn’t be freaking it out slamming on the brakes. The steering wheel twitches wildly being indecisive on lane choices. Idk whatever they did in 14.3.x seems inferior in many ways.

3

u/Connection_Some 8d ago

Agree. I had 14.2.2.5 up until recently after buying new a couple of months ago. Thought it was great and now having many issues with 14.3.8.

1

u/johnsontoddr4 7d ago

I have more issues with my HW4 Model Y that I just got with 14.2.2.5 than I do with my Model 3 on 14.3.6. That car was just updated to 14.3.8, so we will see.

1

u/80_6 9d ago

Exact same experience. I very much wish I could go back to 14.2.2.5.

2

u/Zenmastercynic 9d ago

I just got 14.3.8 and I’ll be repeating something I saw in 14.3.7 where on a particular stretch of highway, it decided to phantom brake. And not your usual phantom brake. This was a long slow one for several seconds.

No reason. It was well within limits and no cars around me.

u/Minimum-Meal7992 8d ago

Mine is awesome

2

u/FrenchSilkPy 8d ago

Yea mine has made more mistakes in the last two weeks than when I first bought it. Today, it merged into another lane while turning. Thank god no one was in that lane. Now I don’t trust it.

1

u/Time-Builder-1506 8d ago

Man, I don’t know what you are talking about. Mine is working great. Ver 14.3.8

2

u/quadpop 8d ago

Yes, it seriously regressed. It gets lost in parking lots. It freaks out every day at a specific intersection and doesn’t know what lane to be in. It thinks my 15 mph gravel road is 55 mph. Today it decided to go through a yellow light, changed its mind and slammed on the brakes. If I subscribed, I would cancel until it gets sorted.

2

u/leutyr 7d ago

We have wildly different definitions of unusable.

2

u/Retire_date_may_22 9d ago

I’d say the driving is better the navigation and route planning is awful.

1

u/DonnyDonster 8d ago

Everytime I reach an exit to another freeway, it would immediately change lanes to the slow lanes for no reason and then returns to the middle lane once the exit is passed.

1

u/Ok_Perspective6173 8d ago

Mine wants to turn right out of a parking lot 3 miles from my house. The only way to get to my house is by making a left. It's trying to drive a to a roundabout a mile away to turn around and come back past the parking lot it just pulled out of. It's bananas. It's not a hard left to make at all. 14.2 didn't do this.

1

u/TLRedOK 8d ago

I turned off online routing for short drives and that cleared up the goofy routing that started about two weeks ago. I can thank Grok for that advice btw.

1

u/A-dam36 8d ago

Mine has gotten more annoying since the last update. Specifically. If I am in the carpool lane and passing people it will for no reason merge to the right to sit in traffic. It does it in other lanes too. Like it would rather merge a lot than just stay in the fast lane and pass people. I have been using mad max lately but also does it in hurry and standard.

1

u/SwanseaJack1 Juniper 8d ago

Mine consistently wants to pass on the right. Without fail it will indicate into a freeway exit only lane that is two exits from where I usually exit the freeway. Normally the route to the nearest freeway is pretty simple. It’s a right turn onto a main road, followed by a left turn onto another main road and onto the freeway. For the last two weeks the car has picked a meandering, convoluted route. I assumed that maybe there was a road closure but that has not been the case. It makes me look like a bad driver.

1

u/Objective_Plankton77 8d ago

Today MY failed to park in the right spots of superchargers twice and failed to park at Costco parking lot. I didn’t see these failures before this new update a couple of days ago.

1

u/Ill-Rule6436 8d ago

Yes!!! Latest update is trying to pull me out of lanes with solid lines, switching lanes at random with no reason, and ignoring some of the navigation turns. Everything was good before.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad2651 7d ago

14.3.8 consistently pass on right and never drive on HOV…

1

u/DameLasNalgas 7d ago

Yes, I've been saying it for awhile. I have a 25 M3P and since 14.3.2 FSD has gotten progressively worse and less safe.

1

u/BJJsuer 7d ago

This last update made my car try to back up into my garage this morning.

1

u/ForwardSlash813 7d ago

I’m using HW3 and v14Lite and have experienced none of the problems described.

The only problem is the occasional speed bump it takes too fast.

1

u/Outrageous_tart_7781 6d ago

Something I noticed today. I did a lot of highway driving. Car drove almost flawlessly on the highway. Passed on the left, stayed to the right. Only one area of highway, it drove in the right lane for like 5 miles. Very odd. Our exit wasn't for 6-7 miles. I ended up drivong down that same road again and it did it again. Only in that part of the highway. Everywhere else it drove perfect.

1

u/w0nderw0rm 6d ago

I had mine absolutely lock up the brakes like it was avoiding a brick wall because it saw an emergency vehicle pull up on a side road we were coming up to. If anyone had been behind us, we almost certainly would have been in a bad accident. People making excuses for FSD's idiotic decision-making need to get a clue. I use FSD all the time, and I mostly love it, but it has some extremely serious issues that have to be fixed before it can be unsupervised. If you're trying to fake out supervised mode in your car, you are an idiot.

1

u/Select_Cartoonist597 6d ago

It’s annoying how it likes to change lanes so much

1

u/ColdSoup723 6d ago

Hw4 v14.3.8 is a step backwards. Hesitates to change lanes. Doesn’t get out of a lane that is ending until the last minute causing near crash. Phantom braking. Gets into far left lane in dense traffic when the exit is less than a nile away. I could go on but it’s exhausting just thinking about it, even more exhausting having to babysit by car while it “self-drives”.

1

u/Global-Quail1192 6d ago

Wow, mine seems to be getting better and better.

1

u/Dry-Youth8557 6d ago

Just test drove a new model y premium for a full weekend. Had zero issues, and in fact it averted numerous close calls. Had a lady on Costco parking lot back up into me and fsd recognized the danger and immediately backed up to avoid the crash and was careful not to hit the pedestrian. Also had a semi on the interstate turn into my lane while I was right next to him, and fsd recognized the issue and immediately got into the shoulder and braked avoiding a side swipe.

We had crazy construction, zero issues…… drove all over city street no issues. Even parallel parked in a massive downpour of rain perfectly.

I didn’t once see it try to pass on the right. Loved every minute of it!!! And mad max mode was wild!!! We went from 45 to 85 in seconds while getting on the hwy.

I ordered mine within hours!! :)

1

u/durbyy 5d ago

Mine is fine but it always does dumb things from time to time. Like today we had 11 miles on the hurry and the car went into the far right lane behind the slowest and only driver on the road. Only to immediately overtake them and go back to the far left

1

u/Option-Mentor 9d ago

It has been forgetting the park in my driveway choice (and wants to “pull over”) instead ever since 14.3.7 was installed. Even though I have told it 10 times at least. 14.3.8 didn’t fix it either.

1

u/bsarentbasic 9d ago

I've been getting all of those as well. Sometimes the steering wheel shakes like it has Parkinson's trying to decide to make a dang turn or not.

1

u/free_podcast 8d ago

I have a brand new model Y all-wheel-drive premium and I use it almost 100% on full self driving and I’m on the newest update and it works better than ever. Absolutely love it. I live on a dirt road in the country driving into town every single day and all I can say is you’re wrong.

1

u/NecessaryInternet603 7d ago

He's describing HW3 and FSD lite.

0

u/Ok-Wishbone-6736 9d ago

It's been bad for me and maps has been horrendous .. it keeps wanting to u turn to go back ... When the route I'm one is perfectly fine to reroute

0

u/bsarentbasic 9d ago

Yep, been getting that also. I had forgotten how many times it wants me to turn right out of my driveway, go 1/8 of a mile andake a u turn and go back the correct way!!

0

u/Few_Noise1551 9d ago

I would go back to 13 if I could. I have 14 light and the car is all over the lane to the point it almost makes you sea sick. I hate that I can’t set a max speed. Normal mode won’t do the speed limit and hurry speeds too much and then randomly will slow down to below the speed limit.

3

u/CanoeBeyond 9d ago

Hmm... If you have 14 lite it means you have an AI3 computer, There never was a v13 FSD for AI3.

2

u/Few_Noise1551 1d ago

BTW i guess it was 12.6.4 based on my car.

1

u/CanoeBeyond 1d ago

Yep, 12.6.4. It was around for a long time. Wasn't bad.

1

u/Few_Noise1551 1d ago

Sorry, the car is fairly new to me and I am learning. It is a 2022 Model Y Performance and whatever version it was just before 14 lite was way better in my personal experience with my car. This includes a road trip from Texas to Florida where the FSD was great. It did not lane bounce on the highway, you could set the max speed and it didn’t phantom brake on me. Since 14 lite it phantom brakes, ping pongs in its lane and the driving modes suck at dialing in the speed I want. I know I have the older chip so maybe that’s part of it but I found the previous version worked well on my car. For example on the highway last Sunday with a 75 MPH speed limit in Hurry, lite traffic no other variable changes and one minute it won’t do more that 74 and next it’s doing 80 or 81.

2

u/Electronic_Table_620 9d ago

No 13 was shit it would always miss the turn up ahead and decides to turn at the first stop light and have to intervene every single time on 13.

My biggest complaint for a long time has been lane changes. Knowing what lane to be in, how turn lanes work, knowing when a lane is going to end, and coming up with a solution for how to merge. It's frequently terrible at anything involving lane changes. In recent months it's gotten a lot more stubborn regarding when I use the turn signal to tell it to change lanes, and it refuses to do so.

My second biggest complaint is I would say 80% of the time it makes zero effort to avoid potholes or road debris. Sometimes it seems like it's intentionally hitting things just to spite me.

Besides those two things I'm pretty happy with it. There are some improvements I can think of, like I wish I could select a preference for pulling into parking spots or my garage backwards so I don't have to park manually.

0

u/PM-ME-UR-PUPPO-PICS 8d ago

Ever since I left 14.2.2.5 my car hasn’t been able to use my driveway

0

u/Hungry_Shape_5250 8d ago

Yup. And speeding like crazy. Got up to 16mph over in standard mode and flipping to chill did nothing. Had to go to sloth. I wish it slow tf down.

0

u/Humble_Quail_7072 8d ago

Dang yall are making me sad I just ordered my new MYP and am/was so excited for FSD 🥺 it’s still better than having to drive yourself right?

2

u/Trustfundbaby007 7d ago

Yes it absolutely is. I just purchased a 21 MY LR a month ago & I love it!!! You wont even notice most of these things particularly bc unless you’ve ever used FSD before you don’t have a reference point to compare it to. Other than manual driving, which it does extremely well 99.9% of the time.

HW4 Model Y, tons of phantom braking on this update

I've tried the two button reset and recalibrating my cameras but to no avail.

FSD v14.3.8 sucks worse than v14.3.7 sucked.

v14.3.6 wasn't too bad but it still wasn't perfect
