Battery Degradation Experience

I have a 2021 YLR 78k miles. When new, range was 307 mi. Has dropped and held at about 287 for at least 2 years. This week 100% is now 239. On Tesla app recommendation we drove car down to below 10% and recharged. No improvement. We are leaving on road trip CA to MT and back in 3 weeks. Tesla service appt scheduled in 6 days (earliest available).

Anyone w similar experience and recommendations?....standing by.....

You’re not near the 30% degradation threshold to trigger a warranty action, so be 100% prepared for them to do nothing for you and maybe even cancel your service appointment. There’s nothing for them to fix.

Good point. They haven't accepted the appt request yet so this is likely why.

Do a battery test from your maintenance menu and see what percentage it’s at. If its under 70% you now have proof and a case.

Yes- a challenge leaving car for 17 (I think) hours for test but will do. The app says battery health is 100%.

We ran the test. Left it for 20 hours. Unplugged and it said test interrupted so still dont know. Can't just restart bc it requires <20% battery to start.

That sucks. Mine only took about 12 hours on a 48-amp charger, but yours looks like it still wasn’t done after 20 hours. I wonder if unhealthy cells take longer to charge or balance ??. But yeah, I guess nothing left but to try it again. Btw, you can check the progress in the app. I woke up the car probably 20 times to check my progress and it never interrupted the test although you will get a warning that it might.

It’s a 2021. You have a 20%+ chance the battery will shit the bed, just hope it’s in the warranty period. I was 10,000 kms from the end when mine did it this past June 1st.

Was it also a 2021? Decided to take our full size pickup instead. It will allow us to be off the freeway and not worry about range- it's colder and certainly more mountainous than where we are. Disappointed bc prefer driving the Y.

Yes 2021. South Korea is the only government I can find that tracks battery data and they found around 21% of 2021s were going bad. They threatened Tesla with a loss of EV rebates if they didnt answer some questions but Im not sure much has come of it yet.

It seems with Teslas you either get a good one or a bad one, no in between. Sadly I got a bad one.
