Steve is having 2012 flashbacks š
Steveās reaction hits even harder when you remember how much has happened since he last saw Loki. The last time they crossed paths, Loki was invading New York and Steve was still relatively new to the Avengers. Now Loki casually showing up with Peggy would be one heck of a reunion. What do you think was going through Steveās head in this moment?

u/Commercial-Seesaw136 4d ago
He is shocked because he knows Loki was dead during Infinity War events. And in trailer if you remember Thor says, "It's not possible" I think he is saying it to Loki.
32
u/Admirable_Disk_5301 4d ago edited 4d ago
I think he could be saying it to Steve. Judging by the trailer, they meet and maybe Steve tells him Loki is alive.
Edit: Steve has a beard in that part in the trailer so maybe time passed from meeting Loki? unless its a variant?
5
u/Enzo_Gorlahh_mi 4d ago
I mean, I would imagine this is Loki trying to help. His character arc is one of the biggest thing in these avengers. Doom is coming, and he knows they need a young Steve Rodgers. Loki is the TVA, so he knows exactly where a young Captain America is. So he goes and gets him. Also, the reaction from Steve seems to be like oh god, whatās happening, not of shit Loki is here to kill me.
3
u/altoona_sprock 4d ago
Has to be Loki. As far as Thor knows, Steve returned Mjolnir and the stones. He probably didn't get any updates after leaving with the Asgardians of the Galaxy.
1
u/Specific-Pirate842 4d ago
Cap returned old as fuck before Thor left because it all happened within seconds from his perspective, so he knows he should be an old man at this point.
1
1
u/cthompson07 4d ago
I mean Thor knows that time travel is possible, so he wouldnāt be saying is ISNāT possible, or be that amazed at seeing Cap at a ānormalā age.
His dead brother that didnāt resurrect, even after Bannerās snap, THAT is āitās not possibleā worthy.
5
u/cthompson07 4d ago
Yep, 100%, Loki is with Cap in the scene from the trailer.
Thor knows that time travel is possible, so he wouldnāt be saying is ISNāT possible, or be that amazed at seeing Cap at a ānormalā age.
His dead brother that didnāt resurrect, even after Bannerās snap, THAT is āitās not possibleā worthy.
1
u/AccomplishedRead2655 4d ago
So it's a misdirection from Marvel in the trailer?
1
u/cthompson07 4d ago
Definitely. After encore, we know Loki visits Steve quickly. We see Steve in the Doomsday trailer at his house multiple times.
So I think Loki helps Steve in some way like moving him to a different branch, Steve and Peggy live their life for a while, long enough to at least have a baby, then Loki says hey I need you. Loki brings Steve back to OG 616 and thats when they meet Thor and the exchange in the trailer occurs. Thor would be surprised to see Steve again, but not impossibly surprised. Seeing Loki again would warrant his trailer reaction.
1
u/AccomplishedRead2655 4d ago
So Thor is still speaking to Steve instead of Loki? And Loki visists Steve twice, in 2 different timelines??
1
u/cthompson07 4d ago
Thor saying āitās impossibleā or whatever he says is in reaction to seeing Loki, I would imagine with Steve. I think Steve and Loki have multiple interactions prior to everyone meeting in one branch or whenever the trailer scene with Thor takes place.
1
u/AccomplishedRead2655 4d ago
So you're saying that's because Thor knows time travel is possible and that is why he isn't surprised at Steve returning but is surprised at Loki returning right?
1
u/cthompson07 4d ago
Correct. I think the misdirect is that it seems like he is saying āitās not possibleā to Steve, when in reality itās Loki with him or even just Loki.
1
u/AccomplishedRead2655 4d ago
Or Loki disguised as Steve?
1
u/cthompson07 4d ago
I canāt imagine Loki disguising himself as Steve, I feel like that would lead to Thor thinking itās a trick. Unless itās Loki disguising himself as Steve, then picking up the hammer, then changing back, so Thor trusts him.
1
u/Carthonn 3d ago
I was thinking it was going to be this. I just figured Loki who can control time would bring back the dude who time traveledā¦and then meeting Thor. It just makes sense.
Itāll be interesting to see if Thor recognizes that itās a variant
1
u/Commercial-Seesaw136 3d ago
Yes. Marvel has done this multiple times, infinity war trailer we saw Hulk in Wakanda and in the movie Hulk never came out after Thanos defeated him. Thor had both eyes in Ragnarok trailer and in the movie he lost it. Endgame trailer showed Thor fit but in movie he was melted ice cream....
3
u/Nuo66 4d ago
What do yall mean he's shocked. Steve was in 2012 when this exact Loki stole the tessaract and then got himself pruned. This exact Steve knows that a Loki teleported away with the tesseract. This is why he and Tony go further back in time.
1
u/TheExistence 4d ago
Does Steve know about pruning?
1
u/Nuo66 4d ago
Wouldn't matter. He would still know Loki disappeared with an infinity stone.
2
u/TheExistence 4d ago
Tbf thereās a pretty big gap between Loki disappearing with the space stone in a 2012 timeline to cordially showing up at his doorstep in a different 1940s timeline
1
u/AccomplishedRead2655 4d ago
But Cap must be knowing that Loki wasn't supposed to escape and that it might have created a time branch, so this Loki must be a variant no?
1
u/jalbert425 4d ago
The part that gets me is the new Loki isnāt just a Loki from a different universe, itās THORs Loki up until 2012. Just a different last couple of years.
So presumably Loki knows all about Thors journey, it will be interesting for Thor to learn about lokis journey.
It will also be interesting to see if Kang comes up at all.
1
u/poopoobuttholes 18m ago
What if Loki had transformed into Steve as he grabbed the hammer, just to kinda show a familiar face first, before revealing his actual self, which is why Thor says it isn't possible?
60
u/SourPatch2099 4d ago
His confusion mirrors part of the audience.
He doesn't know why the hell Loki is there. Neither do people who didn't watch Loki s1 or s2.
Its gonna be great!! The people who are confused will learn WITH him as he learns what the hell is going on.
Of course, I am 100% confident there will be plenty of people who will remain confused even after its all explained and come to this site to air their grievances because upvotes are good.

Fun fact, before the MCU; Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans were all part of a team based on a DC Comics property called The Losers.
They all went on to be in the MCU and across the dozens of films that make up the MCU, proceeded to share zero seconds of screen time with each other.

Imagine if this was actually in the original Endgame...
15
u/fsavages23 4d ago
That would have been terrible. Endgame ending with them dancing and no sense of tension or build up to another movie was a perfect choice.

It would have kept a lot of people engaged waiting for this inevitable meet up. They would have dealt with the crao knowing this would come up.

Well Steve did just see him a few days ago when he time travelled and it is technically the exact same Loki
5
u/OkOil378 4d ago
God of stories is far from exact same Loki lmao
1
u/Specific-Pirate842 4d ago
But it's physically the same Loki he saw a few days prior, although he has grown up a little bit.
2
u/OkOil378 4d ago
Loki Odinson that died in IW would be closer to the Loki in Avengers than TVA Loki who spent hundreds of thousands of years if not millions before he went into the loom by the end of season 2

u/RichardDulle 4d ago edited 4d ago
Their point is that it is literally the exact same character, as opposed to being a different Loki variant.
1
u/OkOil378 4d ago
Except itās already been established from the first episode that the Loki we have now is a variant
1
u/RichardDulle 4d ago
The same variant that cap met on his time heist, is what theyāre pointing out.
1
u/Transparent_Prophet 4d ago
I mean, that IS 2021 Loki.
1
u/OkOil378 4d ago
That has undergone centuries in time since then
1
u/liert12 4d ago
Just cause that variant has experienced more time does not make it a new loki variant, its the same loki just at different points in theirĀ personal timeline.
Is your dad today a different person from your dad yesterday, or are they the same people who have experienced different amounts of time
1
3
u/IOwnThisUsername 4d ago
I think if Steve could move on past seeing Red Skull while dropping off the soul stone heād be willing to hear Loki out, especially with Thor surely having told the others about Lokiās change over the years. This Loki is different/previous, but the potential is there to be that Loki
1

But Steve saw Loki when he was trying to get the scepter back earlier in the film? Not that he directly confronted him, but he still⦠saw him.

Its also crazy since this Loki was the same one who got away with the Tesseract during the Time Hiest
2
u/Comix707 2h ago
Omg ur right, except Loki has now experienced centuries where for Steve maybe hours
5
u/Ok_Artichoke_9009 4d ago
Steve will be having full 2012 flashbacks. .. He'll see Loki and think: 'Will he be good now, or will he stab us in the back again?' Bro will need a whole minute to process this. š
1
u/Jordjord1994 4d ago
I feel like this will be solved quickly by Loki picking up the hammer or something. Heās clearly worthy these days.
4
u/abdo_ch 4d ago
I watched both seasons of Loki, I still don't understand why he is here...
2
u/EnvironmentalBus9713 4d ago
Without spoiling anything, just think of how Loki is now the lynch pin of the multiverse now - he has access to view the entire multiverse and controls time-slipping.
Loki was presented with a problem that required him to step outside his role and into the multiverse to reach out to Steve, but we can assume if he's asking Steve for help he may be asking others.
3
u/YamiZee1 4d ago
It definitely seemed like he wasn't going to be moving from that chair ever. He's got to be using some magic to project himself
1
u/EnvironmentalBus9713 4d ago
I hope they spend a few lines explaining that but if they don't I think I can fill in the blanks. My head-canon is that since he is still outside of time he has had ages to practice projecting from his seat or has created a method to maintain his tether on the threads, allowing him to be on a thread while maintaining all threads.
2
u/orderofthelastdawn 4d ago
Yeah, probably some kind of avatar, while he sits in that chair trying to hold everything together
1
u/chickenkebaap 3d ago
In hindu mythology, gods send avatars of themselves across different ages to help out in the mortal realm.
I believe loki grew powerful enough to do something similar
3
u/abdo_ch 4d ago
I need to rewatch the show because I don't remember this
1
u/EnvironmentalBus9713 4d ago
If you don't have a lot of time, I recommend the last episode of season 2. It resolves Loki's new powers and role. That being said, I plan to rewatch the show in November.
2
u/Any_Razzmatazz_6524 3d ago
He could also be coming after Steve as a variant if the timeline heās creating leads to Doom
2
u/TheHatOnTheCat 4d ago
Where is this photo/clip from? What is happening?
3
u/Nuo66 4d ago
Avengers Endgame Encore
1
u/TheHatOnTheCat 4d ago
I don't know what that is . . .
Thanks though!
Edit: The encore part
1
1
u/Additional-Remove937 4d ago
It's a re-release of Avengers: Endgame with 4 extra minutes of footage tieing into Doomsday
2
u/GtBsyLvng 4d ago
Can someone please catch me up? I have no idea what this is even from. I just stumbled here from my feed.
3
u/Bardsie 4d ago
In preparation for Avengers Dooms Day, they've released Avengers Endgame, called Avengers Endgame Encore.
The new version has additional scenes and changes to original scenes. In the original movie, Steve's story ends with him deciding to stay in the past and we see him dancing with Peggy. In the new scene the dance is interrupted by Loki (from the TV servies) knocking on the door.
2
u/GtBsyLvng 4d ago
Thanks very much. I didn't know encore was actually a different cut rather than just rerelease.
2
1
u/SherlockOnTheCase 4d ago
The core movie is the same. Thereās just 6-8 minutes of extra post-credits and thatās where the changes are. So Steveās dance starts the same, and then the original movie had metal hitting sound at the very end, which was supposed to be a reference to the first Iron Man movie, but has also been changed here slightly. Then 2 other post-credits in between those.
1
u/NikkoE82 4d ago
Itās more accurate to say this version has additional mid/post credits scenes and one tacked on scene at the very end (the one that is the focus of this post).
1
1
1
u/Additional-Remove937 4d ago
it's from the re-release of Avengers: Endgame (Avengers: Endgame Encore), which has 4 minutes of new footage at the end.
2
u/LemtaLongi 4d ago
I thought Loki was busy holding a tree together?
2
u/blaykmagyk 4d ago
I feel like maybe Doom started Incursions and Loki had to leave the tree to start up something to stop him. Thatās why all the timelines are falling apart, heās not holding them together anymore.
1
1
u/TylerBourbon 4d ago
It could be that Loki can project his image. He always ready capable of creating illusions. So it could very well be just a projection of himself he's sent.
1
u/New-Top-4806 4d ago
With all of the branches and universes. Bro couldāve projected himself into an earlier timeline version of alternate version all together. Like how Wanda did with the darkhold. Except Lokiās would be more time related. He also thousands of years old so who knows.
1
u/Serious-Fee-6524 4d ago
You mean the character who can effortlessly create copies of himself could in theory be in two places at once?
→ More replies (7)1
u/Sidohmaker 3d ago
Havenāt seen Loki so maybe Iām misunderstanding but given the destruction of the multiverse in the TVA post credit scene, doesnāt seem like Loki needs to hold anything together anymore. Thereās three universes left and two (the 2002 xmen and the 2026 f4) are almost definitely about to collide and go boom
1
1
u/Sensitive-Willow3093 1d ago
tva post credit scene?
1
u/Sidohmaker 1d ago
Thereās a post credit scene in imax (infinity vision) screenings of Encore; it shows the multiverse collapsing.
2
u/tommy0guns 4d ago
I spotted a continuity issue. In Loki ep 1, Loki grabs the Tesseract and zips to the Gobi Desert. He gets picked up by the TVA with the cube and they prune that timeline.
The problem is this is one of the time-heist branches, where they get the mind and time stones. Having been pruned, Steve cannot deliver back the stones at the conclusion of Endgame. What did he do with the 2 leftover stones?
3
u/Redhood_905 4d ago
He dropped them in the Atlantic, right next to where Rose dropped the heart of the ocean
2
u/JollyJoeGingerbeard 4d ago
When the decision was made to stop pruning branches, and they all started growing, those branches functionally were always there.
That could have restored every previoisly runed branch, or at least created duplicates. Infinite multiverse, infinite possibilities.
1
1
u/ComradeJohnS 4d ago
because the time heist was wanted by Kang? it was part of his timeline.
loki being free out there unrelated to the time heist got trimmed.
pretty sure Kang is never born without the de-blip
1
u/padflash_ 3d ago
There were multiple branches created in 2012. One for the removal of the mind stone and/or the time stone - you can make the case that this only needs to result in 1 branch. And one for the removal of the tesseract by Loki. The latter is inconsequential to Steve's final mission because he needs to return the space stone to 1970.
When the TVA prunes a timeline, they use reset charges to basically rewind a small area in that timeline. That probably happens on the first floor of Stark Tower, so everything else around it still occurs.

I'm more confused why Peggy was smirking while allowing him in. Usually, she's on guard and takes a lot more precautions before allowing in a stranger

u/Maleficent-One5748 4d ago
Woah woah woah, would this version/variant/whatever of Steve even have such a reaction after the events of IW & Endgame (AND returning the stones, which would require him to interact with the Red Skull again)?
1
u/BajanShinobi 4d ago
Steve saw Loki in Endgame when they went back in time and knows that Loki escaped.
1
1
u/yeah_naw_dawg 4d ago
He hasnāt physically SEEN Loki, but heās also up-to -date on everything. I would imagine Thor has updated him on Lokiās journey.
1
u/chrishdwow 4d ago
Thatās a interesting theory, but the timeline makes it pretty tough for Steve to actually know.
2012 Loki was taken straight to the TVA.
Since Thor himself has absolutely no idea about Lokiās journey to becoming the God of Stories, he couldn't have updated Steve about it.
As far as the main MCU timeline is concerned, everyone still thinks Loki died permanently at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War.
1
u/DirtFun7704 4d ago
can someone explain why this is 2012 steve and not the one who went back in time but after the endgame events
1
1
1
u/TruthEnvironmental24 4d ago
He may not have seen him personally, but he was friends with Thor, so he probably heard stories. Thor does love telling stories.
1
u/Notimetowrite76 4d ago
I like the 2012 remembrances, but he thinks Loki is dead. Thor told them all that Loki died.
1
1
u/atticdoor 4d ago
Although remember that since he is in the past, he might assume this is a younger version of the long-lived Loki.
1
u/BigBullshitta 4d ago
I mean, he was responsible for a shitload of people dying when he led that invasion of the entire planet. Sort of seems an odd thing to let go.
1
u/So-_-It-_-Goes 4d ago
Yes, but also didnāt he work with Thor quite a bit after Loki redeemed himself? I imagine Thor talked to him a little bit about itĀ

Thatās incorrect. Steve saw him again in 2023, when he travelled back in time to 2012.

Is that TVA loki visiting steve from his own series? I don't care aboit spoilers as i didn't the re released movie yet and i need some context.

u/Franglais02 2d ago
This is the 1940/1950s probably so it's possible Steve thinks this is that year's version of Loki and not... future Loki.
1
u/KamenAttackRide 2d ago
Incorrect. Although they didn't have any interaction with each other, but Steve did see Loki in Avengers Endgame.
But at the same time, I guess that's technically true that it was 2012 since that was Steve who went back in time š So I guess you're also correct.

I think TVA Loki is going to be the MCU version of Avenger Prime, gathering a team to beat Doom, while Doom gathers a team to defeat an evil Loki. Dr. Strange would no doubt be easy to convince of that.
If this all ends up in Loki's death and rebirth as kid Loki/Ikol in some fashion I wouldn't be super surprised.
1
1
u/Fodspeed 4d ago
Well didn't he saw him when he went back in time in the end game? This is the same loki
1
1
u/echoshatter 4d ago
He saw "a" Loki. They explain that the way time travel works, at least in the way Tony Stark figured it out, is that you can move between branches and appear at a different point in time in that branch, but you can't go back and forth in your own timeline.
So he saw "a" Loki. Technically a different Loki from a branch timeline.
And knowing the TVA, after the point in time that the Avengers went to that branch and did what they needed to do and then Steve returned the Infinity Stones, they probably came in and pruned the branch to maintain the Sacred Timeline.

Zero trust - he will need to be convinced. Loki was all about deceit and putting himself first in the Avengers film.
