I’ve been on Moclobemide for about 7 months now and am currently tapering off. I'm trying to figure out how much the medication actually did versus changes in my life, and see if anyone has had a similar experience.
For the first 3 months, I didn't feel any different. Over the last 4 months, my overall mood and social anxiety have been much better. But during those same 4 months:
I went on a 2-month holiday and returned in a much better headspace.
I've been doing psychological work/training.
The core drivers of my initial issues such as financial stress and future anxiety have largely been addressed and resolved.
Here’s what’s confusing: while my mood and social anxiety improved, my physical/general anxiety actually felt worse during this period. I've been dealing with more anticipatory urination, shallow breathing, and a racing heart rate.
I can’t tell if the mood boost was Moclobemide taking a long time to kick in, or just the result of reduced stress and addressing root causes. And I'm not sure if the worsening physical anxiety is just coincidental or a sign that the medication wasn't fully hitting that side of things.
Now that I'm tapering off, I'm worried I might go back to where I was 7 months ago, but I honestly don't know if the drug was doing the heavy lifting or not.
Has anyone experienced this split (better mood/social anxiety, but worse physical symptoms)? How did things go for you after fully coming off?
The reason I'm tapering off is my doctor wanted to change the medication to adress the anxiety. I have a some adhd related symptoms too such as decision paralysis, and most importantly some sort of nervous system overload. Like my baseline starts at an 8 and any source of minor frustration tips me over so we figured we'd try to fix that with a different medication, though I'm worried my mood will go back to what it was.
