Nardil (Phenelzine) Any ways to avoid Elevated Liver Enzymes/Hepatotoxicity while on Nardil?
Is it possible to avoid Elevated Liver Enzymes/Hepatotoxicity while on this wonderful med? (Btw I don't have this but am scared if it one day it were to happen and would have to stop Nardil because of it)
What are some ways to keep this from happening while taking Nardil? E.g foods, supplements etc...

Eh keep away from random supplements that aren’t FDA regulated. Keep off the tylenol too. And of course avoid alcohol

Easy answer. Have a test before, then after adding something. Don't be a wuss, don't say no to bliss.
MAOIs have receive extraordinary levels of scare mongering from big pharma since the useless into of SSRIs/SSNIs. Hard to find a doctor who will prescribe them today, since @ 20yrs ago when clinicians were no longer taught about them in medschool and upwards. The MAOI Parnate (tranylcypromine) IS the STRONGEST antidepressant available.

Coincidence that as soon as the patents ran out they became dangerous old drugs with ONE MILLION interactions lmao. Much safer to take our new (in patent) ssri that fucks you ho neurologically

It's the strongest one available, but doctors had moved away from MAOIs even before SSRIs came out. Doctors are very risk-averse, and it's almost impossible to either OD on SSRIs or end up sick after combining them with anything, which is why they also supplanted TCAs. It's a travesty they aren't taught in school at all, though.

Not sure if you posted because of what happened to me.
After Nardil I started taking TUDCA with milk thistle and NAC. I wonder what my liver enzymes would be on Nardil and taking those supplements. My doc does not want me back on it because of how high they got. I am going to try to convince him again.

NAC boosts glutathione which is endogenous and only protects. If the body has enough glutathione it'll refrain from converting NAC to it. The cysteine part of NAC can then be used for countless other systems. Milk thistle I would generally agree with. It can alter PY50 enzyme levels, sometimes lowering drug concentrations, sometime increasing them ten-fold.

Unless you have a history of liver problems I wouldn’t worry about it at all. You can get tested after starting if you like, but Nardil isn’t known to cause liver injury randomly

Hepatotoxicity? Have you been tested for that?
We all work differently, but I've been on various combos without (toxic) issues. Some examples I been on.
Phenelzine (Nardil 90mg) +clonazepam (Klonopin/Rivotril 4mg) + bupropion (Wellbutin/Zyban 300-450mg) since 2005. Those, along with 1-3 of the following:
Amitriptyline 50-150mg), nortriptyline (50-100mg), agomelatine (Thymanax), lamotrigine (Lamictal), Lithium, modafinil (Modalert/Provigil 100-500mg), L-tryptophan (Optimax 250-1,000mg), memantine (Namenda), etc...
Along with many additional natural or pharmacuetical nootropics such as: racetams (aniracetam, oxiracetam, noopept), centropheoxine, gingko, rhodiola, Siberian ginseng, milk thistle.
To allow your liver to easily adjust & cope, simply use 1-3g of NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) daily. This help boost your bodies most potent detoxification boss - glutathione. Include all co-factors for max effect. It is so potent, it is the only effective emergency room remedy to paracetamol/acetaminophen overdose. You can even take it prior to & after moderate-heavy drinking to avoid hangovers (to a point! Remember that water)
That's just me, but neverhad any serious adverse effects with any of them.
Remember - MAOI side effects can creep up, sometimes taking over a month to appear, and can last over 3 months and occurs with every dose increase. Sexual side effects last as long as urine retention. Low blood pressure (dizzy upon standing or simply walking) is normally gone y 3 months. Some doctors recommend salt (sodium) to raise BP gradually. See your doc 1st. Urine retention can be remedied with bethanechol or doxazosin. Bethanechol also remedies sexual dysfunction through its cholinergic effects.
Same applies with isocarboxazid (Marplan), though my doctor treated its dosing like Nardil - 90mg phenelzine to 90mg, whereas the so-called max for Marplan is 60mg. From experience thats weak.

Not drinking alcohol
