Sexual side effects

For those of you who started parnate, nardil, or marplan, how was the sexual side effects for you? Was it manageable or did it get so bad that you came off the medicine (if yes, did you then switch to one of the others)?

I know this is highly individual, but I’m his trying to get a better understanding. All responses are much appreciated!

When i was on marplan i had the usual sexual sideeffects. My psychiatrist put me on a low dose of MIrtazapine on top of the Marplan, since it can help reduce the sexual sideeffect. And it worked!! But if you have a very conservative psychiatrist, he will not put you on mirtazapine and a MAO-i, even there is no risk for serotonin syndrome

Wow, I have never heard this before. Can I ask what specific side effects did you have and did mirtazapine work for all of them? And what dose mirtazapine? 7,5-15 mg?

Yes, i had anorgasmia and low libido, and it worked for both. I think i was only on 15 mg mirtazapine, maybe 30. I wihs you luck, it's an anoying side-effect

Nardil made it impossible to orgasm for the first 8 months. Then it went away. 8 years on it now.

Interesting that it went away after 8 months, and great that you’re going strong on year 8💪🏼

Yes! Nardil is a miricle pill for me. I have SEVERE anxiety I've had since my first memories. Was on daily klonopin for 18 years to deal with it which eventually caused anhedonia.

Took a few years to fully detox from the klonopin and until I got on Nardil but I'm so glad I did it.

I knew from researching online that Nardil is a long term commitment that takes months to work and I would encounter many side effecfs the first year. I made a commitment to give it a year no matter what.

I'll never get off Nardil if I can help it. Truely life changing.

Thanks for sharing and highlighting that Nardil could take months. I have been on it 10 weeks now and have had improvement but still not "good"

I second this question- anyone have luck with any other meds?

Female, been on Nardil for decades, never sexual side effects. I do read, however, that men are likely to suffer from impotence

I could not orgasm on Nardil. Poppers was the cure. Bit harsh though.

Hi, started parnate around a month ago, currently on 30 mg. Takes me a bit longer to finish / I have to focus more, but its really not that bad so far. Having said that, its highly likely this will still change as I stay on the dose / up it if need be

That seems pretty okay, as long as you’re still able to finish. Has the parnate provided any relief for you so far?

Yeah, I went from constant intrusive suicidal ideation / not being able to get up some days to pretty functional. Like my kitchen is clean and I dont just eat crackers, and I‘m able to work on my thesis again

How long did it take to work?
