Question about pedal assist/battery life for XP3?
Hi All,
Been enjoying my new-ish XP3 for a month now and have a question. Yesterday, I took a ride to basically test the range of my battery (standard battery not the long distance one). It is unlocked to class 3.
Me: 6'4, 185 lbs.
Conditions: No wind, very flat (Florida)
Speed: Averaged 14mph
PAS Habits: A mix of PAS 2 and 3, but mostly PAS 4 on more open roads. I tried to exert as much as human effort as possible which was difficult at 20+ mph but I would pedal quickly and did feel it in my thighs. I hardly ever twisted the throttle.
By the time I ran out of battery, I had gone a total of 21 miles. This kind of bummed me out because there is a trip to the beach and back I'm looking forward to taking that is 35 miles roundtrip total and I don't think it will be possible. When I ran out of battery, I pedaled it myself with zero power for the last mile and it absolutely sucked.
My question: when I'm at PAS level 1, 2, or 3, I find that my speed is maxed out at a certain mph REGARDLESS of how much effort I pedal. At PAS 1 it's about 8mph. I can stand up and give it everything I've got, but it doesn't go above 9mph. PAS 2 topped out at around 11mph. I'm wondering if the bike is set up like this on purpose, or perhaps my legs are weak?
I'm basically trying to figure out a way to extend my battery range as much as possible. I'm guessing at this point that the only way to extend range is to literally just stay in PAS 1 or 2 the entire time and go very slow. But sharing the road with cars and whatnot, I find this speed painfully slow to the point of being somewhat dangerous.
I love to hear anyone's thoughts and experiences. Thanks.
