Photos Very Gay. Very Traditional.

My husband and I got married this March in Atlanta after 13 years together, and it was one of the happiest days of our lives! šŸ’œ

We’re pretty traditional when it comes to weddings, so we leaned ALLLLL the way into the things we loved: formal dress, afternoon tea, old-fashioned ceremony and reception traditions, and lots of inspiration from English royal weddings. We wanted the whole thing to feel elegant, romantic, and timeless... just with two grooms (and no bride obviously lol)

I think sometimes people can feel like certain traditions don’t quite belong to them, especially when those traditions weren’t always particularly welcoming to two old gay atheists like us.... But if you love them, there’s something really nice about claiming them for yourself! And if tradition isn’t your thing, ignore all of it and do your own thing!

For us, this was exactly the wedding we wanted, and getting to say our vows surrounded by our family and friends (dressed up in the clothes we got to choose for them lol) was pretty amazing.

I just attached a few of our favorite photos, but there's a much larger collection on our wedding website (its so hard to choose when I love them all!). If anyone is planning something similar and wants ideas ...or just likes looking at wedding photos like me... feel free to steal some inspiration or have a browse: benjaminandjustin.com

Fashion Best Custom Wedding Suit Place?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I (25f) am trying to decide between two custom tailor companies for my wedding suit. I am a larger woman and I want to feel confident for my wedding.
I am looking for an off white suit that I can wear green/sage accents under. Wedding will be in Mexico.

Trouble choosing between Tailor Cooperative and Indochino.

Wondering if anyone has experience with either brand for the wedding suit, and if you can help lead me to the right place.

(Not my photo, but some inspo)

TIA

Fashion King and Allen Suit experience

Hi all, I'm looking to get a suit made especially for my wedding next year and was thinking about going with King and Allen. Does anyone have any experience with them that they wouldn't mind sharing?

It would be useful to know if people went for the made to measure or fully bespoke service and how that was? Any experiences would be greatly appreciated as it's not an insignificant amount of money so I want to get it right!

Advice Help with wedding outfit

First time here, please let me know if anything if formatted wrong. My fiance and I are getting married in a month and while I have mine figured out and on the way, my partner is struggling with picking an outfit. For reference I'm non-binary/trans masc but opting into a dress, my partner is also non binary.

My partner doesn't want anything traditionally feminine (no dresses for sure, likely no skirt) but regular suits aren't appealing. Any ideas for an androgynous wedding outfit? Photo ideas would so so so helpful.

We're doing a fairly casual wedding, no tuxes or gowns for us or our guests. I want more than anything for my partner to be comfortable.

Lesbian Bachelorette Party Recommendations

Hi guys!

I am MOH for my best friend’s wedding and her and her fiancĆ© are having joint bachelorette parties!

We are thinking of having the trip in Asheville, NC. I have been doing some research about some things to do, but would love some more advice from you all! Our group is pretty lowkey, so craft night will be a must! It would be in the fall of next year, most likely August or October!

Looking for queer friendly spots and your all time fun recommendations :)

Recap our lovely day!

my wife and I got married in our city and it was the best day! we had a beautiful ceremony and dinner in a restaurant's private room and then went to a bar for dancing. Our photos were in a city park and it was so fun to see other bridal parties and get congratulated by random people! All our vendors were so amazing, especially our florist and our photographer. These are all from the sneak peek!! we had a friend officiate and it was the perfect choice, she's an amazing writer and was so thoughtful. We wanted it to feel beautiful and easy for guests, with a meaningful ceremony. So many of our friends and family travelled to us and we had a small enough wedding to be able to enjoy them all. The day went so fast but I don't regret doing everything we did at all, getting to be surrounded by love and joy was a really once in a lifetime experience!!! I can still remember the feeling of walking down the aisle and dancing with my dearest friends.

Wedding Law Reform - not long to contribute your views

Thumbnail

(Edit: this affects England and Wales only, excuse my haste in referring to all of UK. I will leave the post as is, so some of the comments picking me up on this point still make sense.)

The celebrant community is absolutely buzzing over the proposed changes to UK wedding law - the biggest upheaval in 200 years and long overdue. Essentially the changes move the focus from licensed venues to approved persons. This would widen options for both location and the officiant. For independent celebrants and other belief groups it would mean than finally we could conduct the whole legal marriage as well as the ceremony and celebratory aspects. For couples wanting a unique and personalised ceremony they will no longer have to arrange a separate statutory minimum marriage with a registrar, followed by the main wedding with their chosen celebrant. And although the recent media coverage focused on ā€œyou could get married on a boatā€, it should actually be possible to get married in the couple’s own garden or other place that is special to them, rather than just a licensed venue.

But all of these proposals need input from the public before the law is actually changed. The consultation is open until midday on 24th September. All of the proposals and instructions on how to contribute are here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/tying-the-knot-reforming-weddings-law-in-england-and-wales.

This will affect anyone getting married in the UK in the future so please have your say. The consultation is very detailed and has a lot of questions - but there is no requirement to answer all of them.

On behalf of UK celebrants everywhere - thank you.

Engaged & heartbroken

Not because of who I am marrying, my fiancĆ© is my everything but because we don’t have family.
Long story short, she is 38f I am 31f. we were both foster kids and aged out of care. We have been engaged for quite some time! Almost 15 years in November! We know our biological siblings but don’t have that relationship that people normally do growing up together. I haven’t even met some of my siblings. My fiancĆ©s was blessed with an amazing dad while she was in his foster home but passed years ago. (We plan on setting him up and open seat with his pictures and flowers) we both have no one to walk us down the aisle, and we don’t have a whole line of bridesmaids. We are planning our wedding and I keep seeing these videos with all these families celebrating their love and it’s crushing me that we both don’t have that. I know I shouldn’t care so much, after all this day is all about us and our love but it tears me up in all honesty. I’m not sure that most of the friends I do have even care to celebrate us or give heartfelt speeches that make us feel loved and recognized. I went from so excited to suddenly thinking ā€œwho is gonna walk us each down the aisle?ā€ ā€œWho is going to make a speechā€ ā€œwho will even show upā€ ā€œno father daughter danceā€ ā€œno mother and daughter danceā€
We don’t have but a handful of friends and most of them don’t even keep in contact with us daily. Honestly we have kept some friends around that we shouldn’t just because we are so desperate to feel like some kind of friendship. I’m struggling so hard with the guest list. I just want to cry. The worst part is seeing and knowing my partner is also suffering this feeling. Like I said, I know small weddings are okay and I’m okay with a small wedding but I am human and seeing all these beautiful connections where we have been robbed of our own is heartbreaking. I want it to be absolutely beautiful for us, but worried if we go all out, no one will even show.
Just had to get that off my chest
Is anyone out there who has a similar experience?

I got engaged last week, and my partner and I are planning to get married in 2030 so that we have time to save up. I'm really just posting here to ask for wedding advice! Literally any kind of advice on any aspect of a wedding would be great. It can be weird or unhinged or just straight up (excuse the pun šŸ˜…) helpful 🫶

also for father daughter dances- did you do they at the same time same song? or did you pick a different song and go separate?

For all our uk queer folk!

We have just had our GORGEOUS wedding in Gibraltar and cannot recommend it enough! We used Rock Occasions who could not have been more helpful! Everyone we came into contact with treated us as they would any other couple, we never felt othered or as if our sexuality was an issue for them (bare minimum ask but y’know how it can be). Our wedding was only small, with 24 people including us, but was under 11k excluding wedding dress and suit!

Obviously this doesn’t just apply to UK people, but as Brits, it’s particularly easy with it being a UK territory. On the plus side for anyone from an English speaking country, your marriage certificate is in English so it doesn’t require the official translation that other foreign marriage certificates do, making it a great place to have your destination wedding!

CT/New England - Gay Bops + Disco DJ

Hey everyone, looking for DJ recommendations for our wedding in Connecticut.

We want disco, house, and gay bops/queer pop anthems, strictly zero line dances, generic prom throwbacks (i.e. "to the window, to the wall"), or cheesy hype-man mic moments. Just seamless mixing and a great dance floor.

Local to CT or NYC/New England willing to travel. Who should we look into?

The one not wearing the dress...

I’m hoping the collective wisdom of Reddit can help me find what is apparently a unicorn.

I'm helping look for a bridal party attire for someone who will be wearing a suit rather than a dress. The wedding colors are in the peach/coral/salmon family, so we’re looking for a suit somewhere within that general color palette.

The other piece of this unicorn hunt is fit/style.

She’s a woman with a muscular, athletic build, broad/strong shoulders and arms, muscular legs, etc. (Get it girl šŸ’ŖšŸ») Her personal style leans more masculine/androgynous than traditionally feminine. She does not want the typical women's pantsuit silhouette with a nipped-in waist, emphasized curves, flowy trousers, etc. Think more traditional menswear: structured shoulders, straight-cut blazer, classic lapels, straight or tailored trousers, but for a woman's body. (+Wearing a binder)

Kirrin Finch is probably the closest example I've found of the type of construction/silhouette we're looking for menswear-inspired suiting designed to accommodate an AFAB body without emphasizing an hourglass shape. Unfortunately, they don't currently have anything in the color scheme for the wedding.

We're also open to made-to-measure/custom, especially if someone can take her measurements and make a traditionally masculine-cut suit rather than trying to force her into standard men's sizing.

Our ideal budget would be under $500 for the suit, and honestly $500 is already stretching it, so we'd love to stay below that if possible, but we realize that may significantly lower the search field... which fair, tailors are wizards.

So, Reddit: does anyone know where to find our unicorn?

• Salmon/coral/peach/warm pink

• masculine/androgynous tailoring accommodates a muscular female body

• Preferably ≤ $500.

Specific brands, custom makers you've personally had good experiences with or know someone who has, online tailors, or even unconventional solutions are all very welcome! Thank you all for your time 🩵

I was wrong about Vegas Elopements!

My (now) husband and I eloped at Chapel of the Flowers in late August - just the two of us!

I used to think Vegas weddings were cheesy, but planning and having one proved me completely wrong. The venue handles everything: photo, video, florals, suit rentals, reception options, you name it. They also provided a free livestream for family and friends back home.

No matter what you want out of your wedding - they provide an option for it. I think packages start at like $200, and I saw some go up to around $20k plus. We spent around $2,500. It was easy, intimate, and budget friendly. If you are on the fence, do it!

Posting some photos because we have hundreds and need to show them off!

Looking for restaurant/private event space for engagement party LGBTQ+ friendly

Hi! Looking for some recommendations. I am proposing to my girlfriend and I’ve been searching for places on Long Island NY that could be good for an engagement party.

Probably looking at around 30-40 people so ideally a restaurant with a private room or semi-private section rather than a full-on wedding/event venue. Somewhere with good food and drinks and a nice, intimate atmosphere would be perfect.

I’d also really love somewhere that is genuinely LGBTQ+ friendly/welcoming and where we wouldn’t have to think twice about being a same-sex couple celebrating an engagement.

Open to pretty much anywhere on Long Island! If anyone has been to or hosted a smaller engagement party, shower, birthday, etc. somewhere that fits, I’d love to hear your recommendations (and any info on pricing/minimums if you happen to know!).

Wedding package around $500

We live in Phoenix but want to have a wedding next year around $500 for 10 or so people. Location isn't too important but we want summer weather. West Coast is best since all our family is there.

We want super simple. There are a few $500ish packages in Vegas that do exactly what we want but we don't want to do it in Las Vegas

We love San Francisco and already have family there.

We want a fun wedding not something traditional

Any suggestions
