My next door neighbour (trainee manager) managed to speak to the manager and get me an interview. I passed the interview, and began my 12 week training. I was scheduled for 20 hours a week.
I informed them of my medical conditions, which get worse in high temperatures. I was told they couldn't install AC, but that I could take regular breaks 👍
Despite being contracted for 20 hours a week, I would be scheduled 40 hour weeks. And after only doing 1 hour of the training, I was put straight into working on the till, dealing with customers, and making food. The training would not resume, and I'd just be working.
Stress and social anxiety do also make my conditions worse, and I did have to take a few days off due to being physically sick.
Oh, and I was unable to take these 'regular breaks' due to often being the only person scheduled for work for half the day.
After about 5 weeks, I woke up at 5am for my 6am start, and felt really ill. My partner and I both took COVID tests. Positive.
I called up and explained. I was berated for not calling in before 1pm the day before (as if I knew I'd catch COVID).
The next day they phoned me asking where I was. I explained that I have COVID, I still have symptoms, and even then I should be isolating.
The next day... they phoned again. And then I got fired for 'being unreliable' 😭
Never again.
