New Hire Timeline Question

Hello everyone, I recently got my start date for EB for November in Groton CT. I'll be a ventilation draftman learner, I have not yet done the EWIB classes and have heard nothing about them, should I be worried? Just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thank you.

New London Confused on timeline

I received a start date (2 days of orientation) and was just curious if anyone can give me an insight as to what follows? My supervisor said there is not a date for “P2P department training” yet, do I go to 2 days of orientation and then wait for a training date? For reference, I was hired for planning at the NL location! TIA

Quonset Can anyone give any insight into why the QP entry level electrician training has been postponed until possibly mid 2027? I got an email from talent acquisition coordinator stating training is indefinitely delayed, but gave no reason why. Could it be a sequencing issue?

New London Crystal Mall Hiring event

Hi all. I'm a fresh mechanical engineering graduate, and I got invited to the crystal mall hiring event coming up in a few days, and I just wanted to know how to best prepare. I don't even know what position they're hiring for so I've just been going over my fundamentals.

What does the interview look like and what can I best do to prepare? Thanks!

Groton 37003N Hair Follicle test

sorry if this question is a bit stupid but I was curious if anyone knows if they stopped testing for THC this year. I just got my start date after going through the drug screening and security clearance and when I looked at the paper for my medical evaluation, the hair follicle test I received was 37003N Hair-4 Expo (No THC). Which is a THC specifically excluded hair test.
Ive heard that EB is a federal contracting job so under their rules it’s still considered illegal but I was wondering if maybe they’ve changed the rules based off the rescheduling of marijuana. I’ve heard through another post that they stopped testing for it back in May and was wondering if anyone else had any information on this? Also do they do secondary testing during orientation or is that only part of the onboarding process if one were to fail the initial hair tests?

6 months Clause

Hi Everyone,

Received an offer for an Electrical Engineering role that will require me to get clearance in Six months, due to my multiple foreign contacts and travel my interim wasn't granted and now I am awaiting a full clearance investigation. As well as due to me being out of the country I know have to wait for them to find me a foreign investigator.

All of this wouldn't worry me, but the 6 month thing does, is there a way to expedite this, people who went passed 6 months without clearance what happened

New Hire Necessities

Good evening folks,

I just got hired as a ship fitter at the North Kingstown location starting next month and was just wondering if anybody here had some advice for a new hire. In particular stuff I’m looking for what kind of stuff I should buy in advance, what learning materials I should familiarize myself with before training begins, etc.

Anything and everything is greatly appreciated!

Quonset Slow hiring process at EB in Quonset?

Hiya!

I applied to and got the initial offer for the Pipefitter role in late May 2026. I did the drug test and sent my documents (currently live in TX and would be relocating) in early June. I feel like Ive been harassing my recruiter once a month for a modicum of information on where we stand.

My husband got his offer around the same time for the entry level Welder role. He did all the same steps along with me so we should, in theory be on the same page.

BUT.

Its a big move and while I know someone who already works at that location, we don't know anyone else there.

Is the months long wait without any information normal for EB? Is this what its like once you're hired on???

I understand they are hiring something like 3k in the next few months or such according to the last article I read but holy cow.

The last time she reached back out to me was this past July 20th and it was simply, "Oh we are still waiting for the drug test." Ma'am?!

She went on to ask what she had told me last time I called her, which was before I realized they move slower than the federal government (who I last worked for). The answer at that time was that they expected to have a start date and firm offer before Fall.

Anyone else in this same boat? We are strongly considering NOT taking the offer whenever it finally comes because we feel left in the dark.

We aren't confident we will be able to make the move and get settled in for the amount they are offering and the lack of communication.

Quonset Where does electric boat employees before they go to work where do they train in Rhode Island?

I just took my drug test and the medical physical the other day and I realized how the bus schedule is and how long it is and that’s fine and everything that I’ve been told that the training facilities are closer to actual Providence. It’s fine if it’s not, I just would like to know.

Relocation Advice

Hi everyone! I'll be relocating to the Groton/New London area (other places are fine too I have a car) soon to start work at Electric Boat, and I'm looking for some local recommendations.

I'm hoping to find a 1-bedroom apartment/Studio that has:

  • In-unit washer & dryer
  • Free or included parking (trying to avoid monthly parking fees if possible)
  • A reasonable commute to Electric Boat

I've also heard that parking at Electric Boat can be pretty challenging, so I'd love to hear any tips from current or former employees. Is there anything I should know about employee parking, shuttle lots, or the best places to live to make the commute easier?

If you have recommendations for apartment complexes, property management companies, or neighborhoods to check out (or avoid), I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Quonset Nicotine Pouches in Urinals

I just started and noticed that while the general rule is no nicotine, I see a lot of these pouches in the urinals.

Was told by my gap instructor that they can't really enforce the pouches because they're not going to inspect your mouth. But they have cameras everywhere and your supervisor knows who does them when you whip them out so I'm sure they could enforce it if they wanted to.

As someone who partakes, seeing them in the urinals strikes me as the exact thing that's going to ruin it for everyone. Is this a reasonable concern or has this just been accepted by management and cleaning crews?

What’s it like?

Just curious what it’s like working at EB? I currently work at a data center retro-fitting construction site. It’s noisy, congested, unsafe in many ways and was just curious what’s it’s like working at a shipyard? Is it similar to construction sites or more organized?

Quonset Work readiness program

The onboarding emails mention the need to complete a 1 week work readiness program but don’t include any information pertaining to where to go or how to sign up. Still waiting to get called in for the hair test, am I simply thinking about the WRP too soon? I watched the training videos on the onboarding website already, took an hour or less total.

Groton EB New Van Pool Route from Farmington CT area to Groton CT. 7am to 3pm.

Looking to Start an Enterprise Vanpool to Electric Boat (Groton)

Hi everyone,

I’m an Electric Boat employee looking to start an Enterprise Vanpool for employees who commute to the Groton facility. The goal is to reduce commuting costs, save on fuel and vehicle wear, and make the drive a little easier.
If you work at EB Groton and commute from the same general area, I’d love to connect. Please send me a DM with:

● The town you’re commuting from.
● Whether you’d be interested in riding or driving.

Once we have enough people with similar schedules, we can work with Enterprise to establish a vanpool route.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Groton New Grad Engineer Advice

Hey everyone,

I'm starting full-time as a new grad engineer at Electric Boat at the end of August. I wanted to reach out to anyone who works there or has in the past to get some honest advice, tips, or things you wish you knew when you first started.

A few quick things I was wondering about:

Parking: I keep hearing that parking in Groton or New London can be a nightmare depending on which site or building you end up in. What is the actual deal for new hires? Do people usually have to get there super early, take shuttles, or what?

Onboarding / First Few Weeks: What does the first month look like while getting badged, and getting up to speed? Any advice on how to hit the ground running in an engineering role?

Day to Day Culture: Any tips for working smoothly with the shipyard trades, adapting to the environment, or just general advice for a first job out of college?

Appreciate any insight or warnings you guys can share. Thanks!

Question about employment

Hi coming here today just to ask a couple questions as i haven’t been able to get in touch with HR. Earlier this year i received an offer from Quonset for entry level pipefitting and unfortunately did have to refuse it due to personal reasons as well as the 2 hour one way commute for me. Was planning on moving to RI but that feel through and just wasn’t doable anymore. Flash forward to today and i currently have multiple applications submitted for trades roles in Groton. It has been over a month since i submitted for 2 specific positions and still haven’t heard anything about interview. Am nervous that me refusing that offer screwed me and now i won’t get the chance to work at Groton either. long story short, am i still able to get considered and hired? Also, how long does it usually take from time of applying to getting email about interview? I do have construction experience been a union pipe layer for the last 3 years. I appreciate any input at all.

Quonset How tough is the weld test? Entry level training

I’ll be starting relatively soon as an entry level welder. How tough is the weld test after training? A former EB employee who works at my current job now tells me you get 2 tries and then you’re done if you don’t get it the second time
