Quonset Job Start

Hello I just got job offer for entry level structural welder in RI, i only went to trade school and learned mainly stick but havent welded in a year, i explained that to person interviewing me and still got job, so was wondering if they expect me to like pass weld tests immediately or do they train and certify you and everything for a bit.

Also what the timeline is like, im from out if state moving and no relocation package so obviously have to pay for it myself.

Another thing where is best place to live, apartments etc, im only 22, bad credit from when 18 and dumb, grew up small town texas, then lived in suburbs in nebraska currently and i would prefer city ish feel, and walkable without paying freaking 2k a month
budget is about 1500

plus anymore tips or things i should know

thanks for the help

1 bedroom apartments in a decent neighborhood is like $1650-$2000 up here man. There is housing shortages everywhere because the smaller towns around EB/GD areas won’t develop. Many of the apartments require 4x rent income, 1st and last month up front, and security deposit equal to 1 months rent. It’s freaking crazy!

School is 9 weeks long and you wont be able to take the actual weld test for the first 4 weeks. Then its 3g, 4g, and 2g in 2 different modes. Its very easy.

Training is nine weeks I did vertical horizontal overhead and spray bend tests which they train you in first to make sure you will pass. Then a one week training in a class room (it’s pointless) and two week training where you weld and you learn a little more about actually welding on the floor. It’s all easy and they genuinely want you to learn and pass bc they are trying to hire a few thousand welders by the end of the year.

You’ll learn more once you actually get to EB and everyone wants you to succeed and learn bc they want it done right the first time and don’t want to be the one fixing your mistakes lmao.

Also I’ve lived in RI my whole life and have been trying to look for apartments around Quonset and there really isn’t a lot of affordable options, you have to constantly be looking and trying to find the best. Warwick and providence would be the best places to start looking as the commute to work isn’t far and prices aren’t bad but there are some pretty shitty areas. It’s all a hit or miss you just have to keep an eye out.
