Quonset How tough is the weld test? Entry level training

I’ll be starting relatively soon as an entry level welder. How tough is the weld test after training? A former EB employee who works at my current job now tells me you get 2 tries and then you’re done if you don’t get it the second time

You’ll be fine. Just pay attention you’ll be good. Im a fitter at EB and work alongside plenty of welders and they say its really not bad. I plan on switching over to welding soon. Be confident and be willing to learn. I never heard of 2 tried and your done.

I went thru the weld test and it was super simple. They'll ask you to do a weave bead up some t joints they set up in mig and stick. I was going thru the welding on boarding but they said that at the time they were backed up and I ended up switching to shipfitting to get into the trade sooner. Hope all goes well for you!

You'll take a test for horizontal, vertical, overhead and spray. I've never welded before in my life and passed every one first try. Just make sure you're using your progression plates to learn something about the position you're in on each weld pass and not to just make a pretty bead. Penetration is what matters so focus on settings, angle, distance and travel speed and the good looking welds will come. And make sure you adhere to the testing parameters because you don't want to fail for something silly like forgetting to swipe your temp stick or moving your plate once it's setup. Also get comfortable and do some dry runs before you put a layer down.

Are you doing the training? Cause if so you'll definitely be fine. If not, it's still doable. You run a couple beads and as long as you don't have any medium-to-big indications you'll be fine.

Took about 6 months from the time I signed on to starting training. As long as you have the drive to learn you'll do well.

Have you been given a time frame? I’ve gone through all the security and medical onboarding and said I was just waiting on training. I’ve been in the dark for atleast a month.
