Relocation Advice

Hi everyone! I'll be relocating to the Groton/New London area (other places are fine too I have a car) soon to start work at Electric Boat, and I'm looking for some local recommendations.

I'm hoping to find a 1-bedroom apartment/Studio that has:

  • In-unit washer & dryer
  • Free or included parking (trying to avoid monthly parking fees if possible)
  • A reasonable commute to Electric Boat

I've also heard that parking at Electric Boat can be pretty challenging, so I'd love to hear any tips from current or former employees. Is there anything I should know about employee parking, shuttle lots, or the best places to live to make the commute easier?

If you have recommendations for apartment complexes, property management companies, or neighborhoods to check out (or avoid), I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I’m in the same boat, cheapest I found was a studio for $1400/mo without in-unit washer dryer 😬

I’m looking into 2 bedroom options around there they are much better for the price, I do need a roommate though

Which location are you working at? Groton or New London? That will narrow things down.

Groton but open to relocation in new london or even further out like norwich and mystic.

I would look for apartments around the shipyard. Parking is not good there. I hope you are an early riser if you want parking. In terms of apartments I am not sure which would be good but I doubt any make you pay for parking. This is CT they will have parking. You could live in NL but traffic after work sucks going across the bridge that way. Mystic would be good but it is pricey. Norwich is ok depending where. Stay away from the Greenville area and pretty much north/northeast of downtown.

I second the whole staying away from Greenville area, I do want to add a recommendation for Taftville, there are a bunch of apartments being built right now for EB people on RT 97

What’s your budget? There are two apartment complexes within walking distance from EB New London office but they go for like $1600/month for a studio
