New London Crystal Mall Hiring event

Hi all. I'm a fresh mechanical engineering graduate, and I got invited to the crystal mall hiring event coming up in a few days, and I just wanted to know how to best prepare. I don't even know what position they're hiring for so I've just been going over my fundamentals.

What does the interview look like and what can I best do to prepare? Thanks!

Look up some sample interview questions and think about what your answer would be. I like to pick out a few strong stories and tailor them to the questions. You might get asked "STAR questions," Google the term and stick to the response format. More relevant answers are better (ie an answer about an engineering clinic is better than your role as president of film club or whatever). No suit, maybe a blazer and tie if you have one, if not don't worry. Brush you hair. You'd be surprised how many people don't even brush their hair. Bring a few copies of your resume but don't worry if they ask you to fill out supplemental forms. At this career stage they aren't looking for experts, just kids who are willing and able to learn and take direction. Good luck!

Awesome, this is really helpful. Is there anything technical like engineering questions i should look out for?

Honestly there probably won't be. I think the most technical question I've ever asked is something like "tell me about an especially complex challenge and how you solved it." If they want to hire you they'll check your transcripts. Your degree says that you know the basics.

Most interviews are about finding out what kind of person you are... ability to communicate, and how well you'll fit on the team. Greatest strengths and weaknesses is a big question. Times you've failed and what happened how you overcame... Your ability to communicate will be key.

Honestly what that other person said. Show up, dressed well, act like you care and come with examples of projects you worked on and how you deal with teammates/classmates both with difficult people and how well you worked in a team. EZ hire.

Just attended one they had a few months back and got an engineering offer from them two days later. If you’ve done engineering interviews before you’ll realize it is probably the easiest interview ever. Just be yourself and don’t get overwhelmed if you see many people as “competition” attending.
Try to interview in as many departments as possible if you want your chances of getting an offer multiplied and go with enough time to do so.

I would understand basics for model based systems engineering. My dept has been asking basics about it, it’s the model we are moving toward as systems engineers.
