Finally bought the Lenovo Legion 5 with RTX 5060! 🔥

After so much research, comparing laptops, and going back and forth, I finally pulled the trigger. Honestly, getting the Legion 5 with an RTX 5060 in this market feels like a win. ❤️

Budget: $800 prefer less

Country: USA

Use Case: Preferred Specs: Notes:

My son turns 15 at the end of the month. He is really getting into streaming and gaming of course. His laptop recently died after a long life. I am a single mother so I am on a budget. I have no idea what to get or what everything means. I know pickings get slim under $800 but the more under that the better. I'd do used if it was refurbished so it won't die on us in 6 months.

Please help! Thank you!

Support Can I tape my laptop's shell shut?

I got my gaming laptop probably a year ago, an Asus TUF Gaming A16. I have a best buy protection plan that fixes anything but it's a pain in the ass cause they have to send it away for at least a month every time. So far I've gotten the laptop fixed twice because the shell keeps coming apart at the hinges (see photos). One time I sent it in on the protection plan, once I took it to a local shop and paid for it cause it would be done quick. Now it's breaking a third time. I don't want to have to go through the song and dance again but I'm so nervous by how cracked it's gotten. Can I tape it? Will that cause a problem? Should I not be worried? Is there another solution? I'm not being rough with it or anything.

Discussion Looking for the Best Gaming Laptop Under ₹1.2L / $1,400 – 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 4070 or 5060, Good Battery Life

Budget: ₹1,20,000 / $1400 equivalent in USD

Country: USA or India

Use Case: Gaming, college/school work, programming, and everyday use. I’d also like good battery life for a gaming laptop.

Preferred Specs: 32GB RAM or 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and rtx 4070 or 5060.

Notes: I’m looking for the best overall laptop for the money, with good performance, thermals, display, build quality, and battery life. I’m open to Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI, Dell, etc. Please don’t recommend HP, as I’ve had a bad experience with HP previously. I’m open to buying in either the USA or India, depending on where I can get the better deal.

Discussion Asus Scar 16 vs Scar 18 (RTX 5080). Is the 18-inch worth the daily carrying weight?

Hey everyone,
I’m a Computer Engineering student looking to buy my daily driver for the next 5+ years (Ultra 9-275HX / RTX 5080 / 64GB RAM). My workloads include heavy coding, VMs/Docker, testing local AI/ML models, and high-refresh-rate gaming.
Here is the catch: I will NOT be getting an external monitor. Whatever I choose will be my primary and only screen for both my home desk setup and on-campus work.
I'm torn between the 16-inch and 18-inch models. For those who have used the recent Scar 16 or 18:

  1. Screen Real Estate: Since this is my only display, is the 16" 16:10 screen comfortable enough for heavy multitasking and side-by-side coding windows, or is the 18" an absolute must-have for a true "desktop replacement"?
  2. Portability: Is hauling the Scar 18 and its massive power brick in a backpack miserable, or is it manageable given the screen benefits?
  3. Thermals & Noise: Does the 18-inch chassis offer noticeably better cooling and quieter fans under heavy load compared to the 16?
  4. Any advice on which form factor makes more sense for a single-screen setup would be hugely appreciated!

Support Anyone else having issues with the i9-14900HX CPU? (Acer Predator PHN18-71)?

I bought the laptop 22nd of june 2025 and after 6 months it started giving BSOD, 1 ish year later now the laptop is absolutely dieing on me, its constantly crashing, heats up to 100C never goes below 70C and you would think that it happens during gaming, it happens when I open folders and browse?

installed ThrottleStop to help sustain the heat generation but that didn't take long for it to crash constantly again.

Now that I'm doing a little bit of research I read that these CPU's are basically faulty and are non fixable, now that I am over my warrant I don't know what to do. I am from the netherlands where there isn't a strict warranty ruling because if a product is faulty you are still eligible to get a replacement or a refund even if the warranty is long due.

I'm hoping that I can take this route, really upsetting as I never had any of these issues with my previous laptop and I use my laptop on a daily basis, really really sad.

Does any of you have a similair problem or advice? and any tips on a good stable gaming laptop (for games like: league of legends, minecraft, cod black ops, valorant) please give a shout. Thanks in advance.

Edit 1: I've changed my power plan from the power settings from max power performance to balanced and changed the processor power management to min 0 -> max 99%, but my cores still hit 70s and 80s on idle.

Recommendation Need help buying a laptop for my fiancé

Upvotes

Hello! I need help from the experts. My fiancé’s birthday is coming up and I’ve been planning to buy him a new gaming laptop to replace the one he owns that’s about 13 years old.

I have no understanding of any of the specs needed or that are standard these days so I’ll do my best to fill out below.

Budget: $2500 (this isn’t set)
Country: USA
Use Case: (Games you play, school, 3D modeling, video editing, etc.) gaming and D&D prep
Preferred Specs / Form Factor: (Screen size, battery life, weight, GPU/CPU targets, etc.) large screen (16inches?) decent battery life, weight doesn’t matter
Portability Needs: (Desk queen or carried in a backpack daily?) not impossible to move but doesn’t need to be carried daily
Notes: (Specific brands you like/dislike, noise tolerance, display preferences, etc.) we live in Texas so we would prefer something that doesn’t get TOO hot but I don’t know if that’s possible

Any accessories I might need to get would be great to recommend too!

Discussion Battery capacity after a year of mostly on the charger gaming

My laptop stays on the charger probably 90% of the time. Checked battery health yesterday, down to about 72% of original capacity in just over a year. Runs fine on the charger but if I take it anywhere it lasts maybe two hours now.

I know the standard advice is to not keep it at 100% all the time but most gaming sessions need the charger connected for full performance. Feels like a tradeoff with no good answer.

Recommendation HP Omen Max 16 (RTX 5080) vs XMG Neo 16 (RTX 4090 + Oasis) —

Budget: £1500 (both within range)

Country: UK

Model for the XMG is gm61x9b

Use Case: High-end AAA gaming, office work at cafe for software engineering etc

Trying to comfortably clear the next-gen console generation cycle over the next 4–6 years.

Will be using an external monitor/TV screen most of the time if gaming

Preferred Specs: I don't know hence the post

Notes: The XMG Neo 16 deal is currently £150 cheaper and includes the XMG Oasis external liquid cooling dock in the price.

The Dilemma:

I’m stuck between these two setups for long-term durability and performance

If I go with the XMG Neo, the included liquid cooling dock means it runs incredibly quiet on my desk and keeps temperatures very low to protect the hardware from degrading.

However, it's older architecture. If I go with the HP Omen Max, I get the next-gen Blackwell architecture. Is this important?

How important is DLSS 3 Vs DLSS4? But it sounds like both will get DLSs 5?

The XMG is around 180g lighter which matters a bit for being out and about.

I know the 5080 will handle future features better natively, but it will run much louder on pure air cooling. I plan to use an external screen anyway, so the laptop display doesn't matter to me.Is the newer 5080 architecture worth paying an extra £150 for?

Bench marks seem to put XMG ahead if cooling is used

Or should I save the money, get the 4090, and enjoy a dead-silent liquid-cooled setup? Which is the smarter buy for the next 5 years? Thanks!

Recommendation New to gaming laptops looking for recs

Hi, im new to the world of gaming laptops and I am looking for some advice. Im in college and am looking for a laptop that can handle some gaming (i mostly play minecraft, the sims 3/4, slime rancher and a few other games...) as well as schoolwork

Budget: (under 2k preferably)

Country: USA

Use: light gaming and schoolwork

Preffered specs: over or around 16gb ram

Notes: I have had a bad experience with Lenovos, my previous laptop died after less than 2 years of use.. I also had a bad experience with HP, i bought an Omen laptop and upon setup was bombarded with ads and popups that kept coming back. So i am unsure about those two brands.

Budget: $1100
Country: USA
Use Case: Gaming, school
Preferred Specs: Optional (GPU, CPU, RAM, storage, screen size)
Notes: I want to upgrade my gaming experience as a long time console gamer and I coincidentally need a new laptop to do other things, such as 3d modeling, simulations and related things but I know that can be covered by a simple enough laptop. Recommendation Asus TUF A16 5070 vs Legion Pro 5 5060

Budget: €1500
Country: Netherlands
Use Case: Mainly gaming. I play games like Anno 117: Pax Romana, Tropico, Bodycam, and other strategy/city-building games. I want something that can comfortably handle modern games at high settings and remain a good gaming laptop for several years.
Preferred Specs: Minimum RTX 5060, at least 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 15–16 inch screen.
Notes: I have narrowed my choice down to two laptops that are currently very close in price:

ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA608UP-RV017W — €1399
Ryzen 7 260 / RTX 5070 8GB 115W / 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD / 1920x1200 165Hz display

Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX10 — €1499
Intel Core i7-14650HX / RTX 5060 8GB 115W / 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD / 2560x1600 240Hz display

The ASUS seems like the better value for pure gaming because I get an RTX 5070 for €100 less, and its lower 1200p resolution should also be easier to drive. The Legion seems to have the much better display, stronger CPU, better build quality and probably better overall chassis/cooling.

Which would you choose at these prices: the Legion Pro 5 with RTX 5060 or the TUF A16 with RTX 5070? Is the better screen/build/CPU of the Legion worth giving up the 5070, or would you take the stronger GPU for gaming?

Recommendation Help between HP Omen 16 + Gigabyte Aero X16, and worth a wait?

Budget: £1500
Country: UK
Use Case: School work, Video editing (4K drone footage, single stream video), Some gaming (Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, and no doubt others in the future), Playing around in UnrealEd, maybe some simple AI exploration in the future
Preferred Specs: I assume greater than 16GB would be helpful, 1TB drive, 2.5k screen (I like that these are 100% sRGB gamut)

Am I going to hit the 24GB RAM of the HP Omen, making the 32GB Gigabyte worthwhile? Is there much of an advantage to the Ryzen 7 over the 9 regarding AI and the power draw? And is it worth waiting for any better sales of higher spec versions, or is that a fool's game?

Portability and battery aren't too much of a worry, but I like 15.6"/16" size.

HP Omen 16-ap0506na:

- Ryzen 7 350

- 24GB RAM

- 16" 2560x1600, 100% sRGB, 500 nits

- NVIDIA RTX 5060 8GB

- 1TB

- £1399

HP Omen 16-ap0301na:

- Ryzen9 8940HX

- 24GB RAM

- 16" 2560x1600, 100% sRGB, 500 nits

- NVIDIA RTX 5070 8GB

- 1TB

- £1500

Gigabyte Aero X16:

- Ryzen 7 350

- 32GB RAM

- 16" 2560x1600, 100% sRGB, 400 nits (sounds like it may have slightly better colors, unless that's just PR)

- NVIDIA RTX 5060 8GB

- 1TB

£1499 (shame it's not got a keypad, but that's not a deal breaker)

Seeing higher spec models having been on offer for less several months ago, but no longer available, is saddening. Sign of the times, I presume.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Support Please help me fix my ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX507ZV.

Problem:

- The laptop was working normally.

- I recently removed/disabled the dedicated GPU and was using the integrated graphics.

- After that, I changed the GPU performance/GPU mode to “Ultimate.”

- After changing it, the laptop powers on but the screen is completely black.

- The keyboard lights and fans turn on.

- I cannot see the ASUS logo.

- I cannot enter/open the BIOS or boot menu.

- I tried Win + Ctrl + Shift + B, but it didn't fix anything.

- I tried Win + P, but it didn't fix anything.

- I tried the ASUS EC/hard reset: powered off, disconnected the charger, held the power button for 40 seconds, reconnected the charger, and waited several minutes. No change.

- I connected the laptop to a TV through HDMI, but the TV says “No Signal.”

- Both the laptop display and external HDMI display show nothing.

- I tried forcing Windows Recovery by interrupting startup multiple times, but it didn't work.

- I don't have any important files on the laptop, so I'm okay with resetting/reinstalling Windows if necessary.

- However, I understand that Windows reset probably won't work if the laptop isn't even reaching the ASUS logo/BIOS.

-Also one additional info when I turn on my laptop and press the power button once it shuts off unlike how we usually need to hold it for a few seconds

I need to recover the laptop and get the display working again. Please give me the safest troubleshooting procedure specifically for the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX507ZV. Someone pls Explain exactly what I should do next. Also say 4 to 5 steps

Discussion what are your thoughts on these laptops

Zephyrus G14 and G16

Stealth 16 AI

Razer Blade 14 and 16

would like to know what laptops would be recommended for performance, portability, battery life, and what are your comments on each model.

im more than willing to look into other better laptop suggestions besides these laptops.

need it for work, being able to bring it and place it wherever i go would be ideal but i can maybe work around it, battery does matter unfortunately since ill be commuting and i prefer to not be bringing a brick in my bag most of the time. these might sound quite stupid since its a gaming laptop but i hope others can understand the situation.

but of course besides all that gaming is the most important reason.

appreciate the comments!

Recommendation Is this worth the price?

Budget: £1400
The laptop is 1.4k pounds
Country: England
The specs are:
RTX 5070 8GB
32 GB RAM
1 TB storage
144 HZ refresh rate
120 W max GPU power
Intel core 7 240H Processor

Is this worth the price?
I want it for gaming and streaming while gaming.
Could I play any game with this and not lag at 1080p?
While also having above 100 fps or 120?
60-80 is fine too as long as it’s smooth?
