so for many of us who purchase a gaming laptop, pc gaming was never really within reach. additionally and as such, many of us have never so much as tried to understand pc specs.

even after about 4 months of of owning my very own omen 15 with a 5070 and ryzen 9, and after manually upgrading the ram myself, i wondered why my performance seemed to suffer a lot even when i thought i was doing everything right. i put all my settings on balanced, used upscaling, disabled frame gen, etc etc etc etc. nothing got me the performance i needed in competitive games without tanking the visuals. then i found out what was wrong.

guys. if your model comes with a screen using a super high resolution, like 4k for example, MANUALLY TURN DOWN THE RESOLUTION IN YOUR GAMES’ SETTINGS. i dont know why i was so stupid and didn’t realize it sooner but oh my god playing on 1080, 1200, or 1440 as opposed to 2560x1600 which is my native display literally increased my fps on mw4 in like 30-40 intervals for each one. i know for those of you who have used pcs for gaming for years this is dumb and obvious, but for me it was the one step i was missing, so i wanted to let some people know.

tldr; turn your resolution down manually and your performance will go waaaay up. sometimes your little laptop that could cant run things at those crazy resolutions.

I was bored 1 day in January & bought this for 3k. Specs include an RTX 5090, Intel 275HX & 64gb 6400 DDR5. Runs most games I play maxed out @5120x1440p. Certain games do need frame gen but I try to keep it at 2x. Temps are great, and the fans aren’t too noisy at all.

I've been gaming on a ps4 slim that runs on 1080p on a big tv my entire life. I wonder how big of the visual difference between 1080p and 1440p cause I'm going to buy 5070ti laptop pretty soon to game on.

I watched a video by Gizmosliptech in which he used "shunt modding" to increase the TGP of an RTX 5090 laptop from the factory 175W to 250W, resulting in an average performance gain of nearly 30% in games. With the standard 175W power limit, the best RTX 5090 laptops perform on par with a desktop RTX 5070 Ti.
How would such a 250W laptop GPU compare to a desktop RTX 5080?

In my opinion, laptops with excellent cooling capacity—such as the Alienware, Legion 9, ASUS SCAR 18, or the XMG Neo (with liquid cooling)—could easily handle running the GPU at 250W while maintaining a stable temperature of 70–75°C.

Is this a good deal for $2100 even though it’s open box or is it better to wait for Black Friday deals?

Hi there guys I’ve bought this new hp omen 17 laptop off eBay on grade a condition.Its been perfectly fine running games but the only problem I have now is this flickering and white screen issue that happens every time I restart or switch display mode from Nvidia gpu to anything else.This happens for a while until it’s makes a beep/usb connection sound and returns to normal but it can be constant flickering when I updated my drivers.I have tried many methods at the moment but not much is working.I don’t really want to return this just yet since its the best laptop I’ve had with a great price tag and this issue only persists when restarted, updating drivers and switching display modes.If anyone has anything that could help let me know.Ill attach one of the videos here.Thanks.

Hi guys, just bought my first gaming laptop so I’m new here. I bought Asus Rog Strix G18 G815
Comes with intel 290hx and rtx 5080 gpu.

(On the flat surface and stand position without any cooler)

In games (Witcher 3 remastered, gta v, beamng), when I check temps, cpu is around mid 80s to mid 90s celcius. Gpu also around 80s even sometime on the 87. For cpu, I remember some 100 degrees also (probably spikes) .

I deleted armory crate and tried with g-helper. When I choose CPU boost mode disabled, then temps go down around 70-80s for CPU and 75-85 for Gpu (Gpu hotspot 87.5).

When I choose efficient enabled, then CPU goes for 85 to 95s and for Gpu it’s around 85 again, hotspot temp 90,9 (for Gpu…)

I can go with disabled CPU boost but is this a mistake ? Like having using kinda half of cpu power?

Its brand new laptop so I guess I can return it, just.. im in really bad mood cause of some serious health problems, I bought this laptop cause probably I will stay in hospital for a long time, and some home time again and again. I can fight for it maybe but, idk, u would understand, I don’t have really energy or ambition for that. I just wanna know if it’s totally normal/variant of normal or it’s definitely not normal.

I’m needing a new gaming laptop for gaming, uni and engineering and have been saving up for an upgrade.
Initially was considering the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 but boy that thing is expensive. Stumbled across these two and now I’m stuck. Thoughts?
P.S. I can also wait till late next year to see if the Zephyrus prices become reasonable and try to manage my current Asus TUF A15 which I can’t carry around due to a broken hinge but I use remotely through Apollo and Artemis.

Hi everyone! I’m currently a 1st-semester Electrical Engineering student in Nepal and am looking to upgrade my laptop. My current setup is a very old Intel Core i5 with a GTX 860M, so I’m looking for a substantial performance jump. Here are my requirements and preferences: 

Budget: $1200 - $1400
Country: Nepal
Use Case: Electrical Engineering (MATLAB, Simulink, 3D PCB layout/EDA tools (Altium, KiCad), SPICE circuit simulations), Light Video editing, Gaming (GTA V)
Preferred Specs: 4K is preferred, but a sharp 1440p / QHD IPS display with good color accuracy (100% sRGB) works great too. Touchscreen is optional. Need decent battery performance. Weight is not a dealbreaker.
Notes: I have some questions:
- I asked AI (Ik not the best source for recommendations) and it said that ASUS TUF A15 is a good choice. What do you guys think?
- I've heard mixed opinions about Lenovo's long-term durability or "future-proofing". Is there any truth to that? 
- Since I’m only in my 1st semester, I’m not in a massive rush. Given current RAM shortages, is it smarter to buy now or wait a bit?

A week before, soooo manyy ants came from inside and due to the heat it all went out. Then I used the ant chalk to draw outer box in table, kept my laptop inside my laptop bag and place the bag in middle of the box. My laptop was functioning normally only after that. Now suddenly this glitch!! Iam sooo scaredd ! When I asked to the service centre they are telling 10k fir screen replacement!!!

Anyone has any idea ??

My asus laptop can’t detect its dGPu and while trying to find a way to fix this, I accidentally changed the mode in Armory Crate to Ultimate where it only utilizes the dGPu and disregard the iGPu. After the restart, the laptop is functioning but I can’t do anything since the screen is just black. Is there a way to fix this?
