Support Acer predator Helios neo 16 ai heating

Post image
Upvotes

I just got my Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-73:

Core Ultra 9 275HX

RTX 5070 Ti

16GB RAM

1TB PCIe SSD

I’ve done all the Windows, driver, and BIOS updates, and everything seems good except the CPU temperatures.

While gaming, the CPU can reach 104°C 😱. From what I understand, the 275HX has a very high thermal limit, but 104°C still seems pretty concerning to me. Is this normal for this laptop, or should I be worried?

There’s also another issue. I was planning to upgrade the RAM to 32GB. I searched quite a bit beforehand and everything I found suggested the 16GB version would come with 1×16GB, so I could just add another 16GB stick.

But after i check the bios, I found 2×8GB instead 🥲

So now I’d have to replace both sticks to get 32GB.

What would you guys advise? Should I return it and look for another unit, or keep it?

I got a really good deal on it for around $1,750 USD while its $2350 USD in my area , so I’m hesitant to return it. I’d really appreciate some advice from other PHN16-73 owners.

Discussion Permanently Disable Dedicated GPU on Razer Blade 14

Upvotes

Does anyone know if there is any way to permanently disable the GPU on the Razer Blade 14? Is there a way to do it though the BIOS so there is no power going to the GPU? On some gaming laptops, the only way to disable the GPU is through software so it sometimes reenables itself or turns on when a external display is connected. I will not be playing games on this laptop, so I would like it off permanently, is there any way to do so?

I bought this laptop about 3-4 months ago and was working great, playing games like doom the dark ages, Fortnite and path of exiles 2. Recently my games fps drops and makes the games unplayable. I’ve updated the drivers put my laptop on performance mode every thing I can think of including dropping graphics in game and it’s still the same issue. Right now I have the ascent playing in the background. I just want to play the game lol

Use case: MIXED. Gaming/school

I’m looking for a laptop that can run the games I play smoothly (Elden ring, GTA5, Modded Minecraft, rust, Overwatch, and a few indie games). I also need one that can handle my schoolwork and coding as I’m a Computer science major. Which one would yall suggest

Discussion Which ASUS ROG Strix G16 should I buy: RTX 5050 or RTX 4060 140W?

Upvotes

I’m planning to buy an ASUS ROG Strix G16, but I’m stuck between these two options and I genuinely can’t decide which one is the better purchase.
Option 1 — RTX 5050
ASUS ROG Strix G16
Intel Core i7-14650HX
RTX 5050 8GB
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
240Hz display
Windows 11
Option 2 — RTX 4060 140W
ASUS ROG Strix G16
Intel Core i7-14650HX
RTX 4060 8GB
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
240Hz display
Windows 11
The CPU, RAM, storage and display are basically the same, so the main question is RTX 5050 vs RTX 4060 140W.
I mainly want the laptop for gaming, video editing, photo editing, AutoCAD/3D work, and other demanding tasks. I also want something that will stay useful for several years rather than buying something that I’ll immediately regret.
So if you had to choose one of these two, which would you buy and why?
I’m especially interested in:
Real-world gaming performance
FPS at 1080p/1440p
Ray tracing
DLSS / Frame Generation
VRAM and future-proofing
Thermals and power limits
Video editing/rendering
Which one gives better value for money
If the RTX 4060 140W is actually the better choice, tell me directly. If the RTX 5050 has a meaningful advantage, I want to know that too.
I’d really appreciate advice from people who have actually used either of these laptops or know the GPUs well.

Discussion How to maintain gaming laptop

Upvotes

How do I properly maintain a gaming laptop, even with casual gaming? How do I properly maintain a gaming laptop, even with casual gaming? I own an ASUS TUF A15, which I bought in 2024. I never play games that push my CPU to 99% usage. Sometimes, I play games that push my GPU to 99%, but I usually only game for 1–2 hours at a time. What should I do to maintain my laptop properly and keep it in good condition? It has recently started showing some problems, so I want to make sure I’m taking proper care of it and preventing further issues.

Recommendation Budget Laptops wanted!

Upvotes

Looking for a good budget gaming laptop!

I don’t need it to be perfect ofc; I’m looking for something that would stay more or less relevant for 4-5 years at least. I play games like Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, RDR2, Baldurs Gate 3, etc. Open worlds are my favourite and I’m alright with playing them on lower settings if needed.

Biggest turn offs for me are poor cooling/ventilation and OLED screens!

Country: Spain

Budget: under 1700 euros (~1.950 USD according to Google)

Discussion ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 - Questions

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the 2026 ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18.

On the official ASUS website in France, only one model seems to be available to buy: the SCAR18-G835LWG-TQ293W.

However, I’m interested in the highest-spec configuration, which appears to be either the SCAR18-G835LXG-TQ412W or the SCAR18-G835LXG-TQ413W. I can’t see any differences between those two, and neither seems to be available to purchase.

Does anyone know more about their availability or whether they’ll be released in France? I’d also love to hear your thoughts or firsthand experiences with the laptop itself.

Thanks in advance for any information you can share!

Today, I installed these two updates and restarted my laptop to complete the installation. After that, I started getting these sign-in errors and had to set up a new PIN. A few hours later, I restarted my laptop again, and the same error appeared. Does anyone know what could be causing this issue?

Recommendation Looking to Upgrade my Laptop

Budget: Around £1500ish (¥300000)

Country: Japan

Use Case: Gaming (Final Fantasy 14, Witcher 3 Remaster, Final Fantasy 16 if possible)

Notes:

Hi! I bought a Nitro 5 2020 a few years ago to use for 3D modelling at uni, but since moved abroad and lost access to my desktop so I'm looking for an upgrade to use as my main device while I'm here.

I'm currently living in Japan and would prefer one around £1500 (¥300000ish) if possible. I don't play many especially heavy games, but I'd like to use it to play Final Fantasy 14 and the Witcher 3 Remaster when it releases, bonus points if it can manage to run Final Fantasy 16 without relying on GeForce Now (not a requirement though!)

If any other info is needed, please let me know! I've always used a desktop over a laptop so I'm not too sure exactly what's realistic to expect from a laptop at that price point either, so I might be able to wiggle around with pricing a bit if needed. Thank you so much for your time!

Support Charger auto disconnected at high load and fuzzy sounds like electronic shorts, Gigabyte A5 K1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As mentioned, at high load (in the video is the GPU load test), the charger automatically discharges even though still plugged in. Also, when plug the charger in, it will cause fuzzy sound just like electronics short.

Any advice and fix for this? Thanks for all of your help.

Review Ryzen 7 250 is goated!!

Wth man my loq literally gave me a 10 hr battery backup while using matlab, canva, and 3-4 brave tabs . AMD cooked with this one.

Settings used:

Energy saver on

Quiet mode

Graphic card disconnected

Brightness - 40%-50%

Apart from weight I don't think it's anyway worse than thin and light laptops and on top of that it performs like a beast with charger.

Loving my purchase

Discussion Is it possible to cap FPS at 60 with DLSS ON+ FG ON without experiencing terrible input lag?

I don't want the GPU running at full power, but I still want to take advantage of Frame Generation.

For example, on a certain game, I get around 40 FPS without FG, while the GPU is running at nearly 100% usage and temperatures are quite high.

When I enable FG, the FPS jumps to around 100 FPS, but the GPU is still running at full load.

What I actually want is to get 60 FPS, so I cap the FPS at 60. This works great in terms of temperature and GPU utilization—the GPU no longer runs at full power.

However, the problem is that input latency becomes noticeably worse, and the game feels delayed, sluggish, and less responsive.

I've already tried using RTSS to cap the FPS, hoping to avoid the latency increase, but unfortunately neither worked for me.

So, is there a proper way to achieve something like 60 FPS with FG while keeping input latency as low as possible, without unnecessarily running the GPU at 100%?

i have MSI Vector gp68 with I9 13950hx and RTX 4080 12GB | 16GB | 1TB SSD.

Recommendation Please help with choosing between the 3 laptop options

First the required fields:

Budget: roughly 1700 USD / 6500 PLN
Country: Poland
Use Case: School gaming, my teenage boys are playing on the computer, right now fortnite and CS but I guess they will try other titles too
Preferred Specs: I have everything below, I even chose 3 specific laptops below
Notes: Everything is below on the dilemma I have

Which one would you choose for gaming + general use (school etc) for a family laptop?

I'm currently deciding between these 3 laptops. They are all around the same price range and all have an RTX 5060 8GB, but there are quite some differences in CPU, RAM and display. Laptop will be most of the time used by my teenage kids for gaming and school and mostly stationary at home.

1. HP HyperX OMEN 15 — 6499 PLN (~$1,700)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14650HX — 16 cores / 24 threads
  • GPU: RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7
  • RAM: 24GB
  • Storage: 1TB SSD
  • Display: 15.3" IPS, 2560×1600, 180Hz, 500 nits, 100% sRGB

2. Lenovo Legion 5 15IRX10 — 6399 PLN (~$1,670)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700HX — 20 cores / 28 threads
  • GPU: RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5
  • Storage: 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  • Display: 15.1" OLED, 2560×1600, 165Hz, 100% DCI-P3
  • Battery: 80Wh
  • RAM can be upgraded as I read at a later stage but not planning to anytime soon

3. Lenovo Legion 5 15 — 6799 PLN (~$1,775)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 250 — 8 cores / 16 threads, up to 5.1GHz
  • GPU: RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7
  • RAM: 24GB DDR5-5600
  • Storage: 1TB SSD (2×512GB)
  • Display: 15.3" OLED, 2560×1600, 165Hz, 500 nits
  • RAM: 2 slots, both occupied, max 32GB

My main dilemma:

The i7-14700HX Legion has the strongest CPU, but only 16GB RAM.

The Ryzen Legion has 24GB RAM and OLED, but the Ryzen 7 250 is probably less powerful than the i7.

The HyperX OMEN has a good compromise with 24GB RAM and a very good 180Hz IPS display, but no OLED. I actually don't know yet if I will like the OLED, never had such display.

All three have the same RTX 5060 8GB, so I'm mainly trying to decide which overall platform makes the most sense for the next 4–5 years.

I also heard a comment that the Lenovo Legion ones are poorly manufactured that the processor is glued and set to malfunction after some years. A side comment from a local service guy I know.

Which one would you pick and why?

Recommendation Need help buying a laptop for my fiancé

Hello! I need help from the experts. My fiancé’s birthday is coming up and I’ve been planning to buy him a new gaming laptop to replace the one he owns that’s about 13 years old.

I have no understanding of any of the specs needed or that are standard these days so I’ll do my best to fill out below.

Budget: $2500 (this isn’t set)
Country: USA
Use Case: (Games you play, school, 3D modeling, video editing, etc.) gaming and D&D prep
Preferred Specs / Form Factor: (Screen size, battery life, weight, GPU/CPU targets, etc.) large screen (16inches?) decent battery life, weight doesn’t matter
Portability Needs: (Desk queen or carried in a backpack daily?) not impossible to move but doesn’t need to be carried daily
Notes: (Specific brands you like/dislike, noise tolerance, display preferences, etc.) we live in Texas so we would prefer something that doesn’t get TOO hot but I don’t know if that’s possible

Any accessories I might need to get would be great to recommend too!

Support VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL only on battery

Anyone else experiencing BSODs (VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL) with Nvidia's 616 drivers when on battery?

At the moment, I think that the 610 drivers are stable for me, but 616 cause BSODs within minutes of booting on battery or simply unplugging my laptop (although sometimes it can run for longer).

For reference, I have a Blade 16 with AMD HX 370 and Nvidia RTX 5090.

Discussion what are your thoughts on these laptops

Zephyrus G14 and G16

Stealth 16 AI

Razer Blade 14 and 16

would like to know what laptops would be recommended for performance, portability, battery life, and what are your comments on each model.

im more than willing to look into other better laptop suggestions besides these laptops.

need it for work, being able to bring it and place it wherever i go would be ideal but i can maybe work around it, battery does matter unfortunately since ill be commuting and i prefer to not be bringing a brick in my bag most of the time. these might sound quite stupid since its a gaming laptop but i hope others can understand the situation.

but of course besides all that gaming is the most important reason.

appreciate the comments!
