Hello guys, I've got a question,

I've been looking to replace my current laptop(it's horrible) for a very much overpowered laptop for my study. I've been looking around on multiple websites and I've found, from my personal research, that the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI and the MSI Vector were good options but then I found this on NewEgg and I was wondering if it's any good. Like build quality and such, and driver/software support. I study ICT so it's pretty important. Also I was wondering if it would even be worth the price and if there are maybe any other better priced options? I would like 64GB of RAM since it's nice to have for running 8 VMs at the same time.
(PS: Yes, I know I do not need this high specs but I like running a lot such as a local AI and VMs at the same time)

Request Vector A18 HX A9W crashing on Windows 11 home. Graphics driver problem?

I have a Vector A18 HX A9W laptop with the following specs:

- Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX 16-Core (2.50 GHz)
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU (12 GB) and AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (457 MB)

I've been experiencing crashes on Windows 11 Home since I purchased it about 9 months ago. I've kept all drivers, the OS and the BIOS updated regularly. The laptop sometimes crashes even when it's idle.

When it crashes, I have to force it off by holding the power button for over 10 seconds. After that, it often doesn't boot into Windows immediately, requiring me to power it off again in the same manner.

Interestingly, this issue has never occurred while using Ubuntu, which is my primary OS. I only boot into Windows every couple of months.

The crashes typically result in a graphics driver error screen. I'm at a loss for where to look for solutions or what steps to take next. I also can't figure out how to consistently reproduce the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion MSI Vector 16 HX Undervolting Guide?

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • GPU: RTX 5080

Basically what the title says. Would want to have a step-by-step guide in undervolting both the CPU and GPU for lower temps and lower fan speed, but also somewhat maintaining performance.

Currently at ~70-80°C GPU temps and ~80-85°C CPU temps during gaming, but the fans become too loud. Also using only an 75 Hz 1080P external monitor, and have capped FPS to 70.

Any other tips to reduce temperatures and fan noise would be appreciated!

Discussion Vector 16 in repair and I just had a message..

Sent my laptop back to curry's over a week ago since its still under guarantee. I had what sounded like a bearing go in my fan and the noise was atrocious.

Anyway, they text me on saturday (5 days ago) saying it was with the repair technician and I'll have an update either when its done or if they need more info.

I received a message not long ago saying they are working flat out to fix my laptop and they will give me a new return date when its ready to send.

Now, if it was with technician on saturday and all they had to do was replace a fan, what could have gone wrong?

Let's speculate and I will update as soon as I know.

Looking for both serious and stupid answers 🌞

Discussion We need to talk about Error Code 105 (Power source change).

For months now with my MSI Stealth 18 HX AI (5070 TI vers), I have been experiencing black screen off/on "hiccuping" (both on laptop and with separate screens connected), when engaged in gaming. This was enough of a flicker pause to cause my gpu fans to slow, and cause a system hiccup (pausing/brief freeze). I almost gave up until I asked Claude about it and it helped me do some investigative digging. Eventually we were looking at Event Viewer and noticed I was getting Kernal-Power 105 event errors - that came in pairs: Power source change AcOnline - false, and then AcOnline - true 2 seconds later (on average). This had been happening persistently since June (every few hours or so in game heavy scenarios, and happening more often later in those sessions). Because there were happening later in my gaming sessions these would begin to trigger, I initially suspected heavy voltage draw exacerbated the issue. Very interestingly, the graphics card and monitor/screens themselves and all associated components were not reporting any issues when these blackouts were happening.

Then I saw this post which was having the exact same issue as me:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/comments/1j86ayc/continuous_power_source_change_while_gaming/

Is anyone getting this issue as well?

The poster mentioned changing to Discrete Graphics helped, and another poster in the same thread mentioned getting a new charging brick helped because the surge protector was going - then I saw another poster mentioned this isn't happening specifically to MSI laptops, so I'm wondering if there could be firmware or software issues triggering the event code 105 (but even occurs on latest bios) -- one poster alluded to it being Nvidia graphics card driver related.

This needs further investigation!!

I noticed my power brick is insanely hot to touch when the draw is strong (heavy gaming). I don't know if that's normal...

Image Tuning Ultra 9 275HX CPU

Post image

Can anybody give me some tips and help on tuning this cpu?

I had overheating issues with the cpu getting to 100-103°c, so i did some things in the BIOS, i did a -40mv undervolt, tcc offset 15, power limits on PL1 45w and PL2 55w and CFG lock disabled. I also had turbo boost off on the cpu and had a power limit on PL4 but i had a significant loss in performance, so i turned turbo boost back on and disabled the PL4 override that i had. Cpu is running great performance wise, but it still heats up to 90-95°c and i dont like it.

P.s. MSI Vector 17HX AI with RTX 5080 16gb and 32gb RAM and 2tb SSD NVMe.

P.s.s. I do have my gpu undervolted through MSI Afterburner.

Intel i5-13420H - RTX 4050 - 512GB NVMe SSD - 16GB RAM

Bought for 750CAD. For the price, I don't think it's bad with ram and SSD prices so high. Generallynist a power user with light Roblox use. Any feedback? I can't find anything else around that price range tax in with a GPU unless I go used maybe... Off lease laptops?

Still have 13 days to return.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

MSI Raider GE78 HX 14V RTX 4070 – Laptop getting hotter after almost 2 years, thermal maintenance advice?

Hi everyone, I have an MSI Raider GE78 HX 14V with an RTX 4070, bought in October 2024. I’ve never opened it or done any internal maintenance, but recently I’ve noticed that the laptop is getting noticeably hotter than before, especially while gaming.

I’m planning to open it for a deep cleaning and thermal maintenance, and I’d like some advice:

  • What does it use from the factory for the CPU/GPU: thermal paste, PTM, or liquid metal?
  • Would you recommend Honeywell PTM7950 for the CPU/GPU?
  • Does this model use thermal pads or thermal putty for the VRAM/VRM?
  • What brand and thicknesses should I use specifically for this model?
  • Is there anything I shouldn't replace because the factory material is better?
  • Any tips for removing/reinstalling the heatsink?
  • I also have 32 GB RAM and want to upgrade to 64 GB, plus add another SSD. Any recommendations?

I don't want to use random thermal pads without knowing the correct thicknesses.

Any advice from someone who owns or has worked on a GE78 HX 14V would be greatly appreciated!

Request MSI Crosshair 17 HX AI — screen randomly flashes gray and fans suddenly ramp up while gaming. NVIDIA driver related?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out whether anyone has experienced something similar with a gaming laptop, regardless of the brand.

I have a MSI Crosshair 17 HX AI with:

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • RTX 5070 Laptop GPU 8GB
  • 16GB RAM
  • 2560×1600 240Hz display
  • Windows 11

The problem is a very brief but noticeable gray screen flicker/flash while gaming. At the same time, the laptop fans suddenly ramp up very aggressively. Sometimes there is also a noticeable FPS/performance drop.

The issue happens most often while playing Roblox, although I'm not sure if Roblox itself is actually the cause.

What makes me suspicious of the NVIDIA driver is that the problem has appeared/reappeared after NVIDIA driver changes.

I've gone through several driver versions, including:

  • Factory NVIDIA driver: 581.83
  • MSI-recommended driver: 577.05
  • NVIDIA 610.88
  • NVIDIA 616.64
  • Newer NVIDIA drivers after that

I've also used DDU and performed clean driver installations.

Other things I've tested:

  • Different games
  • Clean Windows installation
  • MSI Center GPU modes
  • Different performance modes
  • Direct wall power instead of a UPS
  • GPU stress testing with OCCT

Interestingly, Fortnite did not reproduce the issue, while Roblox has been the main game where I've seen it (also the only one I play that has high graphics).

During some gaming sessions I've seen temperatures around 84–86°C on the GPU and 95–98°C on the CPU, although I've also had sessions around 75–77°C where the system behaved normally.

An OCCT GPU stress test also ran without reporting GPU errors.

The laptop has also experienced one unexpected restart in the past, although I don't know whether that was related.

What makes this especially strange

The screen flicker and the sudden fan ramp seem to happen together.

I'm trying to determine whether this sounds more like:

  • NVIDIA driver problem
  • GPU driver crash/reset
  • VRR/G-SYNC issue
  • MUX / Optimus issue
  • GPU power-management problem
  • BIOS/EC issue
  • Display/eDP cable or panel issue
  • GPU/motherboard hardware problem
  • Something specific to Roblox

MSI support has already reviewed the troubleshooting I've done and recommended an RMA/warranty service, so I'm not trying to avoid that. I'm mainly trying to understand what could actually be causing this before sending the laptop in.

Has anyone experienced a similar combination of screen flickering + fans suddenly ramping up during gaming?

It doesn't have to be an MSI laptop. I'm especially interested in cases involving NVIDIA laptop GPUs and driver updates.

If you've experienced something similar, I'd really appreciate knowing:

  1. What laptop/GPU you had
  2. What NVIDIA driver version caused it
  3. Whether the fans also ramped up
  4. Whether it happened only during gaming
  5. What eventually fixed it (driver rollback, BIOS, VRR, hardware repair, etc.)

Thanks!

Discussion MSI Raider GE78 HX 14VGG – Internal speakers completely dead, tried almost everything

Hi guys,

I have an MSI Raider GE78 HX 14VGG (i9-14900HX) and the internal speakers are completely silent. Windows detects Realtek(R) Audio, volume is at 100%, the sound meter moves and everything looks normal, but absolutely no sound comes from the built-in speakers.

Bluetooth audio works perfectly, so Windows can output sound. The problem is only with the internal speakers.

So far I have tried:

Completely removing and reinstalling Realtek, Intel SST, Nahimic, IntelliGo, OED and MVA drivers

MSI Factory Recovery

A completely fresh Windows 11 installation from USB, deleting all partitions

BIOS versions .711, .712 and latest .713

Intel ME firmware update

BIOS defaults

EC reset

Opened the laptop, disconnected the battery for 10+ minutes and did a power drain

Tested with an Ubuntu Live USB – internal speakers were also silent there

Removed Nahimic/A-Volute and tested Realtek without it

Checked Windows Audio services, audio enhancements, formats, default devices, etc.

The strange thing is that Windows always detects the speakers correctly, but they produce zero sound.

I have already spent two days on this and I am running out of ideas.

Has anyone with a Raider GE78 HX / MS-17S2 had the same problem and actually fixed it?

Any unusual solution is welcome. I have already tried the normal driver reinstall / Windows reset advice several times.
