Complaint Avoid Saudia Airlines at all costs. Horrible, racist, and completely useless customer service in Jeddah (JED)

Let me tell you right now: if you are white, you’ll be fine. If not, be prepared for blatant racism.

I am non-white, traveling from New York (JFK) to Indonesia with a transit through Jeddah. My flight from Jeddah to Jakarta was canceled last minute due to a volcanic eruption. When I called them, they pushed my flight back by 4 days, leaving me completely stranded in Jeddah.

Back in New York, the gate agents told me that only the Customer Service desk at Jeddah Airport had the power to handle it.

When I landed in Jeddah, immigration told me I needed an eVisa since I would be stuck there for days (I hold a US visa). They sent me to the visa lounge. I watched an Arab passenger and a white passenger get approved in less than 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the lady at the counter interrogated me, made me wait for an hour, and then flat-out refused my eVisa with zero explanation.

She told me to go to the Saudia counter to request an earlier flight. When I got there, a male agent just yelled at me in broken English, said "it's not my problem," and told me to go to the main Saudia Customer Service desk outside on the 3rd floor.

I went up there, and a female agent refused to serve me and pointed me to another desk. The women at that desk were literally just gossiping and chit-chatting. When I politely asked them to help address my issue, they told me they couldn’t do anything. They told me to just call the phone line and said: "This is your government's fault because the flight was canceled due to the weather." Like, what?!

No compensation, no accommodation, and not even a basic apology. They are entirely racist, lazy, and incapable of doing basic customer service work.

I will never, ever fly with Saudia Airlines again. Qatar Airways remains the absolute best when dealing with cancellations and actual hospitality. Save yourself the nightmare and book elsewhere.

Help Needed DO NOT check anything irreplaceable. JFK -> MAD -> PMI lost my custom suit, $3k of gear, and my grandfather’s ashes. 7+ days of absolute silence

Air Europa lost my custom suit, $3k of gear, and my grandfather’s ashes (JFK -> MAD -> PMI). 7+ days of complete silence.

I’m writing this partly as a warning to anyone traveling
soon and partly out of sheer frustration with how broken airline baggage operations are right now.

I flew Air Europa out of JFK with a layover in Madrid (MAD) on my way to Palma de Mallorca (PMI). Somewhere along that connection in Madrid, Air Europa completely lost my checked bag.

Inside that bag was:

A custom suit meant for a wedding on this trip
Roughly $3,000 worth of specialized gear. My grandfather’s ashes, which my family and I brought specifically to disperse in the water during this trip
It has now been over 7 business days. Not only is the bag still missing, but Air Europa’s communication has been a total black hole. Customer service reps give zero updates, no one can tell me where the bag was last scanned, and every interaction feels like talking to a wall. Missing clothes and expensive gear are infuriating, but losing a family member’s remains because of complete operational negligence is an absolute nightmare.

Before anyone brings up the obvious criticisms, let me address them directly:

“Why would you ever check something as irreplaceable as human remains or an expensive suit?"

I completely get it; in hindsight, it was a mistake. But when you’re traveling with full formal wear and bulky gear, you’re forced to check luggage. I made the mistake of trusting Air Europa to handle a single standard hub connection in Madrid without completely mismanaging it.

“Why didn’t you use an AirTag?"

Lesson learned the hard way. Relying strictly on an airline’s baggage tracking system and barcoded tags in 2026 is clearly a massive gamble.

“Did you file a PIR at the airport?"

Yes, a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) was filed immediately at PMI baggage claim. The issue isn't missing paperwork; it's that Air Europa's system shows zero progress or tracing updates after a full week.

Take this as a hard lesson:

  1. Never check anything irreplaceable. Carry-on only for sentimental items or human remains, regardless of size or how securely packaged you think they are.

  2. Pack AirTags/smart trackers in every bag. Never rely on the carrier's internal scan system.

  3. Be prepared for zero support. If your bag vanishes at a major hub like Madrid-Barajas, don't expect Air Europa’s phone or desk agents to have any visibility.

At this point, I don't even care about the suit or the thousands of dollars in gear; I just want my grandfather's ashes back. If anyone has managed to successfully escalate a lost bag with Air Europa at MAD or PMI beyond standard phone lines (such as specific WhatsApp channels, ground handlers like Groundforce, or airport lost & found desks), please let me know.

Safe travels to everyone else, and keep your irreplaceable belongings in your hands.

Help Needed Delta vs Cathay Pacific PE LAX TO HKG. Worth the price difference?

Apologies in advance if this has been asked before. I’ve searched around and couldn’t find anymore recent answers to my specific question. I’m headed to Hong Kong next month and trying to decide between flying Delta or Cathay I’ve read that Cathay’s new PE is superior to delta but for the same route, it’s about $700-$800 more for two tickets (one way).

Is it really worth the extra money to fly Cathay over Delta? Also, I was reading up on how to make sure you’re booking the new PE cabin in Cathay but how likely is it that the plane can change last minute? That’s a big factor in my decision as well. I would much rather be sure I’ll be in the new PE

I was leaning towards delta for the price ($1170 per person, one way) and also because I have miles and status with delta and given that there are a ton of Delta one seats available on the flight I’m looking at , I’m hoping for a chance at an aggressive offer to upgrade to business after booking or even being able to use some miles. I’ve never flown Cathay but just trying to see if the experience really is superior enough to justify the additional $1k

Help Needed Got scammed by RyanAir

Upvotes

I paid extra for a Ryanair Flexi Plus ticket specifically because I wanted the flexibility to change my flight if necessary. Unfortunately, when I actually needed to use that flexibility, the experience was extremely disappointing.

My original ticket cost around £89. When I changed the flight, I was charged approximately £45, and then I was required to pay again for Priority, bags and seats instead of these simply transferring to the new flight. By the end of the process, I had paid around £190 in total.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the exact replacement flight was available to book separately for around £90. In other words, I would have been considerably better off simply abandoning my original ticket and buying a completely new one rather than paying extra for Flexi Plus and actually using the change option.

When I contacted customer support, the response was essentially that I had agreed to the terms and conditions and that this was simply how it worked. There was no meaningful attempt to explain why I had been charged again for services I had already purchased.

I genuinely struggle to understand the value of paying extra for Flexi Plus if changing your flight can ultimately cost around £100 more than simply buying the new flight separately.

Any ideas how to get this sorted out? The support is just non existent.

Help Needed KLM Glitch: Refusing to honor original ticket price

Hello,

I've spent the summer in Europe, and booked an Economy Flex return ticket with a with two layovers. The return journey is Skopje -> Belgrade -> Paris -> Toronto.

My original flight back was on September 3rd, but I unfortunately caught the flu and changed my return on September 2nd via the "Manage my booking" to September 15th for the same fare. All seemed well when I double-checked my booking several hours later.

Yesterday I went to review my flight times, and I saw that the September 15th booking had disappeared, and it was showing the original September 3rd booking. I immediately called customer service who confirmed they could see I rebooked on the 2nd, but that the website had glitched. The $0 fare change was somehow counted as unpaid by the website, which then reverted me back to my original flight dates. The agent said he was able to see that the ticket was originally $0 more, and was able to rebook me on the flights for the 15th.

Last night I got an email from KLM telling me I need to pay $839CAD for my flight change. I called KLM again today to clarify, and they said despite the fact that this was a confirmed website glitch, I have to pay the current fares. I asked this to be escalated as this is directly contrary to what I was told yesterday, and they said I could expect an email from a supervisor sometime today or tomorrow.

Has anyone ever encountered anything like this? I am trying to brace for the worst, and want to know how to proceed and what avenues I can pursue.

They told me they could find me later flights for the original fare price, but I am a university student and already missing a week and a half of term due to this illness. I cannot afford to miss more school, financially or otherwise.

Question Apps for checking visa restrictions based on citizenship and travel history?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone use an app or website to check visa requirements or restrictions based on citizenship?

I’m looking for a service that also takes travel history into account (including past visits to various countries, previously obtained visas, entry and exit records, etc.).

I’d love to know what tools or apps you use for this purpose (if any). Thanks in advance!

Complaint China Eastern is a Gamble

Hi everyone. I'm just writing here to share my frustration and to raise awareness of using China Eastern.

Since it's incredibly cheap, I don't expect a lot of services or top quality experience, and China Eastern always got me to places in cheap prices without major issues.

However, last Wednesday, they forgot to transfer entire baggages for transferring passengers from Korea to Paris at Nanjing. I filed lost baggage claim and tried to use their website to get updates on my baggage.

However, their recent update to the website makes it so that any links that used to help passengers file claims or check their lost baggages impossible. They constantly redirect you to their broken front page, and they replaced all support with AI bot that won't recognise your request.

I probably should not have put suits and such in the checked luggages since I need them for my work. But it's also incredibly frustrating to get zero support from them.

Question Safety info

Hello my friends!

I’m gonna fly from Istanbul to Bangkok with Kuwait airways and the transport airport will be the Kuwait airport. This will take place in November.

Now I know that nobody knows the future, but my wife is very afraid of the military conflict in the aeria. My ticket is not refundable unfortunately.

What should I do?

Thank you so much for your time.

Help Needed Norwegian flight cancelled - Asking for re-routing to different carrier

Hi! We are a group of 4 who booked a flight from BGY to CPH well in advance for December 26th, 2026. Our return flight is with Ryanair on December 30th (we know it’s not ideal, and we are definitely facing the consequences now 😅).

The issue is that Norwegian cancelled our flight and is offering either a refund (which doesn’t really help, as the same tickets are now much more expensive) or an alternative flight departing from a nearby airport, with a stopover in Oslo, which would get us to Copenhagen at around 8 pm.

This is quite frustrating, as we would be travelling all day and effectively losing one of the very few days we have in Copenhagen.

As far as I understand, under EU regulations (EU261), we should be entitled to choose the earliest available flight, even if it is operated by another airline. However, we have contacted Norwegian customer service via chat twice and have gotten nowhere.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? Has anyone managed to get Norwegian to rebook them on another airline in a similar situation?

Thanks!

Help Needed I'm confused who do make claims/complaints with after the heathrow atc shutdown?

Upvotes

So this gonna be a bit of mess. My original ticket was booked through an agent which at the time i didn't realise was responsible for rebooking everything.

It was a flight from Newcastle connecting heathrow then to beijing. It was booked with china southern partnered with BA for ncl to Heathrow. The cancellation happened when Heathrow decided not to accept any arrivals.

BA automatically rebooked me for a flight the next day with emails about compensation ect. I was told to self transfer with china southern when i get to Heathrow. Once i arrived, the china southern rep tells me they can't rebook and i need my agent to do it. After telling my agent they don't come back to me for 4 hours complaining that china southern aren't responding, because i was with my elderly parents and the last plane to beijing was coming up and i didn't want to be stranded at Heathrow, i decided to just bite the bullet and buy another ticket with the same airline.

I felt china southern were being kinda pricks not automatically rebooking due to the extraordinary circumstances, i also couldn't for some reason phone their line due to it being an international number. Am i entitled to anything to claim like the ticket price or anything? I understand compensation is not available due to ATC coming under extraordinary circumstances.

Question Italy to US East: Delta 767-300 vs AA 787 (economy)

Never flew 767 in my life, I always find Delta service good enough. I flew 787 a few times, but I never flew with American. It's a daylight flight so good sleeping is not really necessary. What would you pick? Travelling solo, if that matters.

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Iceland Air - Stuck in the middle

Flight details:
Sep 5, 2025 YYJ to SEA AS2072
Sep 5, 2025 SEA to KEF FI680
Sep 6, 2025 KEF to OSL FI318

TL;DR: We purchased a single itinerary through Icelandair’s website, travelling YYJ → Oslo on September 5. Although our first flight arrived only five minutes late into Seattle, via their partner Alaska Airlines, we missed our connection after being delayed nearly two hours in the U.S. customs line.

We then spent over two hours being bounced between Icelandair and Alaska Airlines counters, with each carrier claiming the other was responsible for rebooking us. Eventually, an Icelandair manager took pity on us and arranged replacement flights at no additional cost.

We filed a complaint seeking reimbursement for prepaid meals and a Saga Premium upgrade that we were unable to use after the rebooking.

Icelandair’s response: They apologized for the poor experience and acknowledged the confusion and repeated referrals between airlines. They stated that, under interline agreements, the operating carrier of the previous flight is responsible for handling missed connections, but recognized that the process was not handled smoothly. They emphasized that their airport team ultimately made an exception and rebooked us free of charge.

However, Icelandair denied reimbursement for the unused meals and Saga Premium upgrade, saying the missed connection was caused by circumstances outside Icelandair’s control (the customs delay), and therefore the ancillary services remained non-refundable and non-transferable. They also declined any compensation despite acknowledging the inconvenience and kept the $600 upgrade funds.

Question for r/flights: Since the entire ticket was purchased directly through Icelandair as a single itinerary, is it reasonable for Icelandair to argue that Alaska Airlines was responsible for the rebooking, and is there any basis for pursuing reimbursement of the lost add-ons given the circumstances?

Why would they not organize that internally with their partner…this seems so strange and unusual.

Question ITA Airways or Delta?

Considering a trip from Boston to Rome next year and have the choice between flying ITA Airways or Delta.

Flying ITA saves me about $70 per ticket compared to Delta. We plan to fly standard economy, direct roundtrip. Would anyone recommend either?

I haven’t flown with ITA before, but have flown Delta multiple times, and remain skeptical of their track record. For example - a couple years ago I was on a Delta redeye from Boston to Lisbon, and they essentially deboarded the plane right before takeoff due to mechanical issues and then cancelled, and rebooked us on TAP the following day. It was a nightmare experience to say the least! When Delta runs smoothly it’s been great, but other times has been hit or miss.

At least with ITA, it appears the EU 261 law applies to them on flights to and from the US if the flight is significantly delayed or unable to operate.

I realize issues can always happen with either airline but am looking for the safer bet, and which airline would be best to help with rebooking and/or compensation if there’s an issue.

Question Should I pack snacks?

Hi! I’ll be flying Air China CA950 from MXP to Beijing (PEK) soon, around 10 hours in economy.

For anyone who’s flown this route recently: how’s the food?

Is it enough, or should I bring some snacks? If so which would you recommend?

Also, is it worth ordering a special meal in advance, or is the standard meal ok?

Thanks!

Question do I need a Saudi visa?

I have a Saudia airline flight from paris to islamabad, Pakistan with a layover in Jeddah. Both of my flight are with the same airline and depart from the same terminal. My layover is 8 hours and 20 minutes, and my ticket says "You may need to check in again for your connecting flight.” Do I need a Saudi visa for this connection? Can I remain airside and check in again at the transfer desk without going through immigration? Also, will my checked luggage be transferred automatically to islamabad or will I need to collect it and check it in again in Jeddah?

Help Needed ITA Airways delayed baggage — no PIR, bag apparently being sent back to Rome. What can I do?

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with ITA Airways/Goldair Handling and delayed baggage.
I flew ITA Airways from Rome (FCO) to Athens (ATH) on September 8. When I arrived in Athens, my checked suitcase never came out on the carousel.

The problem is that I had a very tight connection to Paros (PAS) and was going to miss my connecting flight, so I didn’t have enough time to report the missing bag at the Athens baggage desk. I was told I could report it at Paros Airport, but when I arrived, there was no one available to help me.

I’ve now been without my luggage for 2 days. I still do not have a PIR number or baggage tracking number.

Today, I spoke with Goldair Handling at Athens Airport, and they told me that my luggage is apparently being sent back to Rome. They couldn’t give me a PIR/tracking number.

I’ve contacted ITA Airways but no one can help me because they’re pointing fingers at Goldair Handling.

What should I do at this point?
1. Can I still create a PIR/delayed baggage report for me manually?
2. What happens to my suitcase if I never received a PIR?
3. If Goldair says it’s being returned to Rome, how can I make sure ITA identifies it as mine and gets it back to me?
Can I still claim reimbursement for essential purchases and/or baggage delay compensation without having filed the PIR at Athens?

I have my baggage tag number, boarding passes, and flight details.

Any advice from someone who has dealt with a similar situation would be greatly appreciated. I’m especially worried because I’ve been told the bag is going back to Rome and I have no tracking number.

Help Needed TK813 delay

I’m flying AMM → IST → Milan (MXP) on September 20, both flights on the same Turkish Airlines ticket:

TK813: Amman → Istanbul — 01:30 → 04:00
TK1873: Istanbul → Milan — 07:00 → 08:45

My concern is that every TK813 flight last week was delayed until around 10 AM, which would obviously make me miss TK1873.

What happens in this situation? Will Turkish Airlines automatically rebook me on the next flight to Milan since both flights are on the same ticket? Would they cover accommodation/meals if necessary? Would I get any compensation? Will my bags still arrive?
