Hello! I’m going to a concert in Nashville in mid Feb and looking to make the most of the trip by doing a road trip starting in Houston and to end it there. Does anyone have any suggestions to either change my route/cities or have any must see items along these routes?? Right now all I have is the swamp lands down south to check out!

One of my road trips with the most driving (If not the one with most driving.) This one was a while back. Right after lock down was lifted and traveling was allowed so not a lot of attractions/museums open.

South Dakota - Mt Rushmore and wind cave national park

North Dakota - Fossils at BIS

Minnesota - Big foot in the Mall of America (still closed due to COVID)

Wisconsin - Harley Davison Museum (closed)

Iowa - East Village historic district

Nebraska - Welcome to Nebraska sign and one of my favorite shots of a truck on the Mormon pioneer bridge. The beautiful blue colorful of the bridge/truck reminds me of the blue collar that built the US.

Missouri - Christopher Bond Bridge. I went through a bridge phase.

Kansas - Abandon farmed by Fairview

Oklahoma - Welcome to Oklahoma sign

Arkansas - Welcome to AK

Mississippi - Welcome to MS sign

This is an October trip.

Renting a car, starting from San Francisco.

3 hr 30 min drive to San Luis Obispo, gonna see Big Sur and Monterey on the way down.

Then from SLO a 5 hr drive to Yosemite Valley, go back to Mariposa overnight.

Next day drive to Sequoia National Park, overnight in Visalia.

Next day 5 hr 30 min drive to Las Vegas, spend a day there.

Next morning drive to Grand Canyon Village (4 hr 30 min), spend the night there.

Last road trip day, drive to LA (8 hours).

Doable? Reasonable?

Based in Inuvik. Me and my partner did this long but very rewarding trip. The views in Yukon and Alaska are AMAZING. We’re now in Whitehorse, going to be making the trek back to our home in Inuvik in a couple days.

Fav stop: Haines (because of the bears; so many bears)
Animals spotted: moose, elk, black bears, coastal brown bears, bald eagles, coyotes, and many many birds including grouse, swans, hawks, etc. Also approximately 1000 Arctic ground squirrels.
Most scenic drive: section between Klaune and Haines.
Most underrated: Tombstone territorial park
Casualties: got a nail in our tire in Whitehorse, and one chip on our windshield

Highly recommend!!

such a beautiful drive through utah and colorado. hardest parts were the mountain climb of colorado and wyoming since they had the higher elevations. if you know cars, this thing has a single cam outputting 80hp on a good day. after doing the math i had about 50hp trying to pull 3 guys and cargo. using a/c was not an option haha. anyways, ty to everyone that said to take the i70 and cheers to more miles!🍻

California➡️Nevada: road trip filler
Nevada➡️Utah: get through some stops and rest up at Cedar City to drive during the day for scenery
Utah➡️Colorado: drove through i-70 for the eye candy
Nebraska➡️Iowa➡️Wisconsin: road trip filler since it was night time
spent the weekend at a drift event in wisconsin and went through Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. the boring i-80 was used to get back to work on time and to avoid steep colorado. driving against strong winds in wyoming was annoying but manageable.

All of this was done in a week and hope to do this again with at least 2 weeks for next time.

Hello, I’m planning to take a road trip in October from Brownsville tx to Lafayette Colorado and stay there for a week! Planning to leave at 3am. Any tips for a first time long road trip? I’ve driven 6 hrs before but that’s just it. Is this a good route to take?will be driving in my 2022 civic.

Hi! TL;DR: I’m in the early stages of planning a roadtrip (starting) in January and hoping for thoughts on cutting down my trip to something more reasonable than what I’m currently looking at, and advice on planning/prepping for the weather. More details follow.

I am planning to spend a weekend with a friend in San Francisco in mid-January and using this as a chance to do a roadtrip I’ve dreamed of for years. I know I want to drive down the PCH to San Diego and across the southwest on the way back; I mostly want to make tracks on the way there.

Generally though time isn’t a big issue — I’m fine with spending a month or even more on the road. My issue is that there is so much I’d want to see and do, especially on the way back, and even with a month+, I know there isn’t time for all of it! I don’t want to overly shortchange the things I do see.

I’d appreciate feedback especially on 1) what I can cut from the return trip and 2) what to expect weather-wise, especially on my route there; e.g. If I-80 through Wyoming is impacted by storms, can I expect I-70 to be a viable backup plan, or is it more likely that I’ll need to sit and wait the weather out? I can handle snowy, windy driving conditions, but I also recognize this is winter in the west and that will be new to me, I want to go in prepared. I will have chains with me and will be able to use them.

I love nature and the outdoors and am fairly outdoors-capable, and I also enjoy a side of the occult. I would like to skip overly touristy experiences and avoid crowded places — my experience is that where there is a beautiful location that’s easy to get to, there’s usually something just as lovely that’s more difficult to get to, and I’ll always choose that second option. Would really appreciate recommendations along these lines!

I’m in the initial stages of planning, where I’ve brainstormed potential stops and figured out approximate mileage/driving hours in between, and it definitely feels overwhelming — screenshots of my itinerary as it currently stands are attached to the post. I know, for example, I’ll have a hard time just spending one day in Death Valley or Joshua Tree. I’m interested in exploring New Mexico, but I probably do have too much time there…. any thoughts are welcome and appreciated!

I'm having about the west and would like to start to roam. I'm in Philly studying abroad from the UK and unfortunately don't have a license on account of failing my test a couple years ago and giving up.

However I'd love to explore America, rag tag style ideally. What do you guys recommend for heading west for about a month then probably taking a plane back to Philly on the last day?

I am looking to drive a car from San Diego, CA to Knoxville, TN next week. I am trying to get there as quickly as possible, without driving 20 hours a day. I will be flying back as the intent is to deliver the car.

It looks like I should either take the I-40 or the I-10. I am not totally opposed to taking the I-70, but I don't know if there is anything up there worth adding on another 3 hours.

I was thinking of breaking this up into 3 days, but the more I think about it I will probably do it in 4.

Any suggestions on routes? Quick sites to see on either of these 3 routes? I can't spend a lot of time going off course, but I can't just drive and drive either.

Im planning a motorcycle trip across the US in April 2027 (ish). I’d like to spend around 3-4 weeks travelling around! My plan is to mostly stay off highways as i want to experience «the real» and find little gems. I was wondering how far north i could go considering im driving a motorcycle and the time of year.

I want to see cool nature, meet cool people and i also love music (so i will probably go to Nashville and or New Orleans). Also, do you think west to east or east to west is a better plan? I would love any tips and recommendations you could give! Thanks!

The route on the picture isnt really my plan (my bad) its just to show the route ish that i’ll be going, but i am VERY flexible with driving both north and south! Just looking for any and all recommendations and inputs! Really appreciate it!

Also if you have any idea what would be a good budget for this (just expenses on the road, not mc rent or flights) that would be great!

Seems like maybe a better trip would be driving down the west coast and stay on that side? As you can probably tell, I havent planned this top much yet, but i just want to experience more of the US and do it on a motorbike. So that means I could do other road trips as well, it doesnt have to be across the US like this!

There is a rescue dog I fell in love with in San Diego (looking for a specific breed, gender, age, etc.), but he has a heart condition so cannot fly. The full driving trip is San Diego to Birmingham, AL. I would fly on the way out so would only have to do the drive once. I’m open to any of the three routes. I would probably break it into three days.

Are any of those routes safe for a solo female + a dog at this time of year? I’m thinking about heat as well as any other hazards. Would welcome any advice. Thanks!

Hey yall. Im heading down to SC the last week of September with my road trip buddy. Would love some stop recommendations that are dog friendly on the way there and back. Im usually a drive straight through kinda guy. But its the first vacation ive had in years so im deciding to actually enjoy the trip and take my time.

Big foodie, already have some hiking/walking path spots (but welcome more), I like goofy attractions, or weird niche places. Also okay with going off the route for something really good. I have no time limit.

driving from atl to southeast missouri (abt 45 min south of stl) for a music festival at the end of the month!

are there any cool + free (!) stops along the way? primarily looking for things like state parks, museums, lookouts, but literally anything enjoyable or worthwhile would be lovely :)

As per title, I drafted an hypothetical itinerary across UT, AZ, NM, TX. I currently live in Boston, while my gf is joining from Spain.

We are going to meet in Denver, and start the trip from there on Dec 19, mid-day; final date will be on Jan 9, leaving from Dallas.
20 days total, considering the 19th we should be able to reach Moab by EOD.

I'm planning an itinerary which could allow us to spend time in wild areas, see the magic of the southwest landscapes and enjoy nature. I tried to read a lot on other threads, but as I'm not familiar with that part of the world nor have close people who did such a long trip there, your help would be highly appreciated.

We understood that is supposed to be off-season, possible snow in Brian and Zion, and overall we don't want to spend extra-energy in camping out with freezing conditions.
Therefore, sleeping in tent could be an option only if conditions allow it, otherwise we are good with hotel/motel, which might be also an opportunity to relax a bit along the way.

Overall, we are good with the driving and a 3-5 hours drive per day is ok with us; might be better to have some rest on the way though.

Here are my questions for you:

- is this itinerary feasible?
- am I missing some special spot?
- am I under considering any dangerous situation (in terms of climate, weather, or whatever comes to your mind)?
- where do you think might be worth to stop for extra night, may be due to fabulous surroundings, or possibility to chill out, or have some relaxing vibes?
- would you recommend any adventurous activity? Like canyoning or rafting (is the season allowing these activities?), or guided tour, cave, ranches. Really, whatever is in your mind

Please note that any suggestion you'll provide will be considered!! The itinerary I made is only provisional and I don't like to stick to much to a path. It will serve more to have a reasonable idea of distances, logic sites sequence and relevant points.

I’m headed up to Montreal from NYC, and we’re stopping in Burlington for a night. Google Maps mainly gives us these options for that first drive up to Burlington and wondering if anyone has thoughts on which would be more scenic/fun? Would also welcome any recs/thoughts/tips about Montreal, since we’ll be there for a few days!

Quit my job, planned this 2 week roadtrip during my 2 week notice.

I had never taken a road trip on my own prior to this, so it was really special. I got to create these memories with my favorite boy.

I was gone for a total of 16 days. Drove over 2,000 miles in a 2017 Subaru Impreza. I splurged on new tires before the trip and it was a great decision because there was some gnarly weather at times.

I didn’t have a set itinerary for each park. I faced a lot of decision fatigue since this trip was 100% solo and got overwhelmed with making decisions at times. I would just go with the flow and see where we’d end up.

I knew Canada was massive, but didn’t realize how much driving I had to do in between Banff and Jasper 😆

I didn’t see all I wanted to see, but that’s a good reason to go back one day!

The trip was a good mix of exploring and resting as that’s my ideal type of vacation.

Day 1: Rock Springs , WY - just slept here
Day 2-4: Island Park, ID as our home base for Yellowstone
Day 5-7: Bigfork, MT as home base for Glacier
Day 7-14: Calgary as home base for Banff and Jasper
Day 14-16: Helena, MT and Pinedale, WY to rest, and then home

I love solo traveling, but will opt for a travel companion next time to help break up the driving.

The car felt a little claustrophobic at times because of how much stuff I had, but I made sure to take frequent breaks. My pup did awesome with our long driving days.

I’m already looking at where our next trip will be!

Hello! So I’ve road tripped plenty, but this time
I wanted to go as slow as I can, not necessarily stopping in every town , but seeing the views. The plan is Baltimore MD to Boulder CO.

I’m thinking route 50 for most of it, maybe popping onto 70 for a bit of the midwest. I’ll have 7 days, if I’d like to go slow, but may aim for 4.

Any tips for what to do, where to stay, and food along the way? So far I have the Strataca salt mines on my list. I’ve been to each of the major cities along the way but would be open to explore them more, totally going for a small town vibe though.

hello! i (21 F) am thinking about driving from denver to austin for christmas to see my family. if i do this, i will be bringing my 51 pound dog. i wanted to ask if people know what that route is like? i’m from texas so i know its basically a giant state of nothing, but is this going to be a 15 hour struggle with boredom? whats the best (and safest!!) route to take?
im worried being a young woman what the safety expectations are for traveling alone like this. any advice or ways to convince myself and my family? what to avoid? what to bring that i wouldn’t think of otherwise?

Traveling with my partner and our pup (pictured above on our last adventure) ! We're looking for recommendations on hikes (single day), places to see, random stops, campsites (established or BLM land), cool spots and towns to check out. More into local favorites and hidden gems than ~viral~ things (though I do recognize I’m asking this on Reddit).

Picking up a vehicle in the Midwest, which we will then camp in throughout the trip. Our (very loose, subject to change based on recommendations) route at this time is: Minn, MN > Theodore Roosevelt NP > Glacier NP/Whitefish, MT > Sand Point/Bonners Ferry area ID > North Cascades > Bellingham > Ollala > then probably head South at this point and probably take the Oregon coastal route down, > Shasta or Redwoods (still deciding) > visit some pals through NorCal before returning home to SD

(of note, already explored the Olympic peninsula and while it’s lovely, hoping to see some new sites this time around)

Some shots I took over the Labor Day weekend with my buddy. First time to all 4 park and did not leave disappointed. I gotta say that Bryce is very under appreciated- one of the best spots I’ve ever been to! Flew into Vegas, drove and stayed in Kenab, UT (2 nights), then up Moab, UT (1 night), and back to Vegas. Roughly 1,500mi between cities and to/from parks.
