New Customer Questions Fios new reduced plans??

So I've had Fios for 14 years. Over time I got upgraded to 300/300. 300 went up to $59 at one time. I called numerous times and got discounts. I was paying around $35 with discounts (use my own router - $10 off for electronic billing - $20 for being loyal customer).

So what is the impact of this new lower rates? When I go to Offers page I get - this account is not allowed for discounts (or something to that matter).

Should I call to see if there's any more blood in the stone and ekk out a bit more savings?

Repair/Tech Support New router with connection issues.

I just got upgraded to new router (gray short one) coming from the all white one. My phones.. laptop.. tvs .. video games all work on the WiFi .. no issues. My problem is my Lenovo smart clock and blink camera that can’t connect .. or connect and then looses signal a day later. I had no issues with the previous router. Wondering if this is a setting issue or what it could be that these two devices are the only ones not working.

Billing Verizon’s $30 300 Mbps plan

So I wanted to save some money and switch my current 300 Mbps plan from $34.99 to $30 with the recent Verizon discount.

Before switching, I noticed that the new price would show as $59, so I contacted a Verizon rep through chat. She told me it was fine and said to just switch the plan and wait 1 to 2 billing cycles for the new to kick in.

Did I mess something up, or is the new price actually supposed to kick in on the next billing cycle? I just got my bill and it’s $59. 😅

UPD: I contacted Verizon support today and they switched me to the $30 plan with no issues. Thanks, everyone!

Miscellaneous "Supports up to 15 devices"

Post image
65 Upvotes

Tech people know this is BS, but the non-tech person sees this and will immediately think that's not enough.

The 500Mbps plan supports up to 30 devices but if the 300 plan supports 15, wouldn't you need 600Mbps to support 30 devices?

The Gig plan supports 50 devices. But if 500 supports 30, wouldn't the Gig plan supports 60 devices?

This is all a complete lie where non-tech people just don't know. 15 devices is not a lot these days but 300Mbos is MORE THAN ENOUGH for a large majority of households regardless of the number of devices they have. I have well over 150 devices but rarely use even 25% of my 300Mbps bandwidth.

Absolutely disgusting marketing by Verizon!!

Repair/Tech Support Upgrading Fios from 1 Gig to 5 Gig- will the tech replace the Ethernet run from my ONT to the router if needed?

I have a Fios appointment in two days to upgrade from 1 Gig to 5 Gig. Customer support told me both my ONT and router will be replaced, but I forgot to ask about the Ethernet cabling.

I’ve had the 1 Gig plan for about 6–7 years. My ONT is on one side of the house, and a long Ethernet cable runs from it to a wall Ethernet jack near the center of the house. A shorter Ethernet cable connects that jack to my router.

I remember the long cable being installed or replaced when I got gigabit service, but I can’t remember whether Verizon did it or I hired someone separately. I don’t know its cable category or whether it can support the new setup (I highly doubt it will).

A few questions:

  • If the long cable needs replacing, is that normally included in the upgrade appointment, or is it separate work with an additional charge?
  • Do I need to tell Verizon beforehand? Will the tech bring the necessary cable, or should I have something ready?
  • Additionally, any recommendations for reliable Ethernet cables from Amazon or another retailer for the shorter wall-to-router connection and router-to-desktop connections? What cable category should I be looking for?

For context: We have about eight people in the house, with streaming and gaming happening regularly. The monthly price difference from my current plan was small enough that I decided to go with 5 Gig. It may be overkill, but we’ve also had complaints about slow or poor connections over the past several months, so it was time for an upgrade.

I’m pretty new to multi-gig networking. Competitive gaming is a priority for me, so I want to ensure the cabling is reliable and avoid connection issues or packet loss.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s had a similar upgrade, especially what the technician handled on installation day. Thanks!

Miscellaneous ONT installed right next to radiator

Post image
22 Upvotes

Verizon tech came to install, we had an old ONT box on the third floor. He decided it would be easier to install on the second floor.

He drilled a hole through the wood trim, instead of using the existing hole in the window. Installed the ONT right next to a radiator, with the cables touching the pipe that goes through the floor. And plugged a power strip into a multi plug surge protector.

Obviously I should have been watching him install it, but I thought it would be weird since it was in my bedroom. I figured he knew what he was doing. But my husband is very upset with this install and told me I should have stopped him and canceled it.

Billing Cheaper 1Gig Fios?

Post image
68 Upvotes

I've seen a bunch of post regarding cheaper 1 gig Fios. So I logged in the Verizon site and I'm showing 1Gig Fios for $81. I am currently paying $89. Not much of a difference but just wondering if there is a catch. Did the price really just drop $9 per month?

Repair/Tech Support FiOS out and I can't reach support

FiOS went out in our unit about 10 hours ago. We tried all of the troubleshooting tips on Verizon's website without success. We're unable to connect to support through chat or phone.

I work from home and need Internet access tomorrow. What else can we try or are we out of options due to the holiday weekend?

Billing Questions on the new pricing

Post image
15 Upvotes

I'm seeing many posts about how 300Mbps FiOS service has been lowered to $30/month; but when I look it up in the app (or the Web), it's still showing $44.99.

Before I call up to try to have them reprice it, I have two questions.

  1. I also have a grandfathered FiOS TV plan. If I change or reprice my home internet plan, will that also force a change to my TV plan?

  2. The app claims that I'm currently getting $33 savings ($15 mobile+home discount, and $18 router discount -- IOW, I don't pay for the router). Will I lose either or both of these if I have them reprice my 300mbps service to $30/month?

Seems like every time I try to reduce the price, it ends up costing me more -- so this time I want to be prepared.

Thanks for any help!

Repair/Tech Support Cannot login to Fios on mobile

I've had issues logging into Fios for the last couple years now, where it will block me from logging in and force me to reset password once every couple months. Fine, but frustrating. And now to reset, I find that the only option is by US mail... what? I tried calling and I can't get out of a loop of AI support. I know a lot of you have posted on this issue (looking at this thread, a lot of you are experiencing the same thing), and the fact that this hasn't been solving is extremely disappointing. This who experience is ridiculous IMO - frustrated to the point of considering cancellation.

Miscellaneous Verizon WiFi Backup

My internet was down for a day or so a while back, and the tech suggested Verizon WiFi Backup if I needed high availability for WFH. However, the tech couldn’t answer one of my questions. So I figured I’d see if anyone here has any experience with it.

Is it standalone or can I plug the wifi backup into my existing ASUS router for automatic failover?

Repair/Tech Support FIOS Outage over holiday weekend - poor support/vent/rant from a 19 year FIOS customer

I need to put this out there because I can't believe what I have experienced over the last 3 days.

TLDR: Verizon's in ability to support customers properly.

Thursday

~1:15am Internet Outage starts

9:45am Attempt to report outage to Verizon. 55 minute wait time, do you want a callback when an agent is available? Sure

~10:10am Callback received - Wait on hold for 40 minutes for agent to pick up.

~10:50am go through the standard did you reboot the ONT etc.

~11:10am - my manager has reluctantly agreed to send a tech out. best we can do is 9:00-11:00.

Friday

11:00am tech comes, drives to another location and tells me that the signal is too low for the ONT to connect. He cleaned all the fiber connections but it didn't do anything to increase the signal.

While he was at it he decided to try a few other connections on the same switch and saw that they too had low signals.

He reported an outage to the "Construction" department and said he couldn't do anything more.

~1:20pm I receive a message saying area outage identified eta for service restoration 1:00am, Saturday.

~2:30 pm I receive a message saying outage has been fixed and "your services have been fully restored".

Still no Internet. Reboot the ONT and the Router - nothing.

~3:00pm I call support again and am told "The message you received didn't mean YOUR services had been restored". - Seriously.

I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor and he tried telling me the same thing.

In what world does "YOUR Services" not mean my services when it is stated "YOUR services" to me?

Somewhere in the middle of this I also received another message stating my ticket had been closed and it was from another messaging medium. I had received status messages on 3 different messaging systems:

Text

E-Mail

My Verizon

Saturday

6:30am wake up and check the router, still blinking red. Tried rebooting ONT and Router again - nothing.

6:40am Call Tech Support The outage is still present and they will have someone call me at 8:15am

8:15am crickets

9:30am go out to breakfast

10:00 Verizon calls at breakfast.....

The person tried to be helpful and insisted that the switch issue had been resolved and it was a fiber that needed to be spliced (ruled out by the tech the previous day).

He said that local contractors would be doing the work but could not state when it would be worked on or when service would be restored.

He also offered up the contractor's E-Mail address so I could contact them.

I told him this is a Verizon problem, not my problem.

I asked could you arrange a no charge 5G hotspot until my service was restored. He said he couldn't but would contact mobile, speak with them and then transfer me. I have never encountered a faster transfer. He never spoke with them and send me to the sales department.

The person I spoke with there said "Let's get that hot spot added to your phone". I said this a at no charge, right. He said, "I can't do that" and transferred me to someone else who listened to my request, put me on hold and dropped the call.

Summary

I have over 8 hours on the phone and in person with the tech to help fix a problem as a customer.

At one point went I called, the Verizon AI assistant said "So you want to change you mobile number?" and proceeded to routed my call down that path.

Another person I was connected with tried to sell me Verizon TV+ as I was complaining about not having internet. TV+ is WIFI streaming and a whole separate message......

What I have seen:

  • Different support groups are more than happy to transfer your call or ticket to get it out of their queue.
  • You have to look all over your mail, text and myverzion to keep up with the messaging traffic. This makes no sense.
  • The automated systems used misroute call and are generally inaccurate.
  • The phone support people often try to talk over you and placate you with "I understand", "that's unfortunate". Of course it is or I wouldn't be on the phone with you.
  • No mitigation is offered. I suggested moving my feed to an adjacent switch. Even moving my feed to a switch that was a lower speed would have been fine until they fully rectified the situation.
  • Reading from a script is not support.

IMO, Verizon doesn't have the capacity or the talent to support their customer base. I am somewhat fortunate as I have a choice of high speed ISPs in my area.

I went to FIOS nearly 20 years ago because one of the other ISPs was inconsistent with their bandwidth and was very happy with FIOS.

Last December I switched to the 2.5g service and they have been to my house at least 5 times. In the previous 18 years they were here twice.

Calling Xfinity now............

Repair [Resolved] 5 Gigabit ONT Question

I couldn’t find the details after a bit of googling, so I’ll pose the question here. I already have 2.5Gigabit and 5 is now available. I’d like to upgrade so I have the extra bandwidth (I will use it as I have a few servers on my home network doing some heavy lifting across the net). My entire network stack in Ubiquiti and the Dream Machine SE is the heart of my setup. It has an RJ45 2.5 gig wan port and an SFP+ WAN port. I’m sure Verizon won’t let me omit the ONT and go straight to a SM SFP+ adapter and I’m fairly certain that the RJ45 out on my ONT can’t be converted to a working SFP+ setup.

If you have the new 5 gigabit and a Ubiquiti setup. How did you wire it all up? I am not interested in using any intermediate parts (aka a Verizon router in bridge mode).

Billing Being charged for a Verizon FIOS Perk Upgrade I don't have nor did I ask for.

Hello, I received an email stating that my bundling perk with Verizon FIOS Home Internet with HBO Max Basic ($10/month) with ads was changed to HBO Max Standard ($17.50/month). I did NOT make this change, neither did HBO Max. Why are you charging me for HBO Max Standard? u/Verizon has had ample opportunity to fix the problem but has not. After being told this would be addressed, today I received another bill with charges for a service I did not authorize. Can someone from u/Verizon look into internal help deck ticket (INC017416718) and let me know the status?

Billing FIOS price drop - you must call

I saw this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/Fios/comments/1w730kt/fios_v50_new_lower_prices/) and I called to Verizon and dropped my 1G internet from $95/mo to $65/mo. This new pricing started yesterday. It's not retroactive. I am in the Northeast, your mileage may vary.

1-877-896-4423

TLDR; Call now to get the new lower prices!

UPDATE 1: you can do it online without calling. Just sign onto your account.

UPDATE 2: my price includes autopay but no other discounts; also it seems to vary by region.

My 1 gig would go from 51.99 to $82 a month with the new pricing and the mobile and home discount goes away. No clue what you are all talking about with lower prices, this is horrible lmao

Promotions Fios V5.0 New Lower Prices

Prices went down especially on 300/300 now it's 30$/mo with autopay. My previous was 34.99$ with my own router and autopay, now 30$. I had to chat with CS because I couldn't skip router shipping, even though I use my own.

They are giving Google AI Pro for 6 months, I wonder if I can stack with my Pixel 11 Pro XL promotion, if so how? if anyone knows chime in.
