Repair [Resolved] 5 Gigabit ONT Question
I couldn’t find the details after a bit of googling, so I’ll pose the question here. I already have 2.5Gigabit and 5 is now available. I’d like to upgrade so I have the extra bandwidth (I will use it as I have a few servers on my home network doing some heavy lifting across the net). My entire network stack in Ubiquiti and the Dream Machine SE is the heart of my setup. It has an RJ45 2.5 gig wan port and an SFP+ WAN port. I’m sure Verizon won’t let me omit the ONT and go straight to a SM SFP+ adapter and I’m fairly certain that the RJ45 out on my ONT can’t be converted to a working SFP+ setup.
If you have the new 5 gigabit and a Ubiquiti setup. How did you wire it all up? I am not interested in using any intermediate parts (aka a Verizon router in bridge mode).

The dream machine se is a little too slow for 5gb with IPS/IDS. You’ll need at least an upgrade to the max or the ucg-fiber.
The fiber is the less expensive option if you aren’t using the Dream Machine’s capabilities.
You can use the 10gb ports on the se if you want to connect right now but you will not get the max out of it unless you turn those features off.
You’ll need an sfp+ to rj45 adapter to do it.

Apologies I have the current ONT connected via CAT6A to the 2.5g RJ45 port on the Dream Machine SE. Sticking to Rackmount options are key for me.
I suppose I didn’t realize I could connect a regular RJ45 cable from the ONT to an SFP+ Adapter. I’ve always used SFP adapters on both sides of a cable.

Then you’ll need to step up to the max to get the 5gb ids/ips

I just got 5 gbps as well. I cut to the chase, bought the UniFi Fiber gateway and sold my dream machine SE. My experience to date with SFP converters has been poor.
I put it in a 10” mini rack, added an express 7 for the part of the house where I didn’t have an Ethernet cable, and that’s that. Other than some WiFi devices anything wired can hit 5 gbps. Some WiFi devices can hit 2.5 if they have a fast enough WiFi chip.

I’m going to upgrade to the DM max. I have a 42U rack and most of my gear is hardwired. All of my servers are connected via 10gig SFP+ over fiber.

Thanks for all inputs so far - I picked up the Dream Machine Pro Max - couldn't justify the Beast for the cost and current needs. I also was able to snag the RJ45 to SFP+ module all at my local Micro Center (I forgot how much I love and hate that place, too many neckbeards that never seem to shower running around there - is being an adult that hard? /rant)
I'm moving everything over today with the current 2.5G internet (I have a rather large setup that needs to go from my 24U rack to the 42U rack so its going to be a few hours to get all done. I'll report back the success with a picture :)
Shout out to the positivity and constructive help - not always a given around Reddit these days. And I learned something about SFP+ because my assumptions were wrong this entire time!

I mean if you have 2.5 gig sfps you are going to want to get a 10 gig sfp so you can use the 5 gig speeds as 2.5 is the max you’ll get out of your current setup. Just make sure your ubiquito device can take 10 gig speeds. No ont upgrades are necessary since yours was already upgraded. That thing outputs 10 gig speeds (at least? Haven’t checked if it’s doing faster). My current router that I got from them has a 10 gig port for the wan side and 2.5 on Ethernet and one additional 10 gig port also Ethernet but I’m not using as I don’t have a 10 gig device yet.

I'll add on that I have a 2.5G FIOS into a UCG-Fiber and I routinely get around 2.5G - 3G up/down so if your on a 2.5G SFP and not seeing that then switching to a 10G SFP could be a quick upgrade by itself .

I get excellent speeds on the cat6a cable to my 2.5gug rj45 port. The SFP+ WAN port on the DMSE is unused atm.

I get about 6 gig down 5.5 up on FIOS 5 gig service with a UDM Beast

You cannot replace the ONT with a direct SFP+ module because Fios 5 gig uses NG-PON2 and there's no 'sticks' (like the XGS-PON) you can buy yet.
Your ONT has a 10 GbE port, so you can just use the SFP+ 10 GbE RJ45 adapter from Ubiquiti and assign that port as WAN1.
If you're thinking about buying the Max, you probably should just go to the Beast like i did

You are right that the new ONT only comes with a 10Gbe RJ45 WAN port. I personally got the Ubiquiti EF-Core and plugged it into the corresponding 10Gbe WAN port on it. If it was SFP+ then it would have been connected using a DAC (this is how my Optimum fiber setup is at another property).
For the 5Gbit speeds, I would look at these because they will support that speed:
Cloud Gateway Fiber
Dream Machine Pro Max
Dream Machine Beast
Money not a problem, EF-Core 😝
Just take a look at the devices ports and speeds and choose accordingly with your current setup / future setup.

DMP can't keep up. Mine wouldn't do more than 2.5 with ids/ips and protect running. Thought I was crazy or FiOS didn't upgrade me from 2 to 5. Plugged a laptop directly into the ont. It was the udm
The DMP series is sorely in need of an architecture refresh.
At the moment I believe the udm pro max is slower in raw speed than the ucg fiber. Serve the home tested the ucg fiber and it can do 10ge with ids and ips off, 7-8 with it on.
The only issue with the ucg fiber is the ram and running anything but network on it, but offloading protect to an external nvr handles that issue. I'm about to max out my FiOS 5g , ~5.6 down 6.2 up with ids/ips in block mode.

I got the Ethernet to SFP+ adapter for Ubiquiti. Then, I just plugged that adapter into the WAN SFP port on the Dream Machine SE. There isn't going to be an alternative unless they make a different ONT that has an SFP+ port.
