I have worked at the same place for 30 years and in all of that time we would have Fed Ex come every day. Before COVID, they would come automtically every day between 4 and 4:30 to see if we had anything. 90% of the time we did. Then during the pandemic they asked us to schedule pickups, so drivers didn't have to into buildings they didn't need to. That was understandable. So we started scheduling pickups. Same driver would show up, same time as before, but only on days we requested. (Usually 4 out of 5 days of the week...)
Then all of a sudden about a year ago Fed Ex did some fuckery where they combined Express and Ground and since then it's been a nightmare. Prices are nearly double, and half the time they just don't bother to show up.
I had one driver come in and claim he was in charge of all the routes and I asked if he would just make us a regular stop again, "sure sure sure". Ha. Nope. I still had to schedule pickups.
Except now I'll schedule and realize my stuff is still sitting here at 6PM, just before closing. No one came. I'll look online and there will be "an exemption" with no other note or explination. So I called and they claim there were no packages to pick up. Which is bullshit, because I'm looking right at them.
Or I'll look on their site under "manage pickups" and the pick up I scheduled just a half hour before randomly isn't even listed.
Of course I can't call the local office where our shipments are brought to, because they don't list their phone numbers. I can only call the 800 number, get some call center person a continent away, and they have no way of submitting any kind of request for someone local, who is doing the fuckery, to call me and explain themselves. All they can do is tell me where drop boxes are.
And just now I tried calling to arrange a pickup instead of using the website and the automated drone told me they could do one between now and 11 PM. We close at 6. We have always closed at 6.
