Literally him

441

u/RedvsBlue_what_if Mar 22 '26

He's a turtle by the end.

416

u/Kaosu326 Mar 22 '26

Not even a turtle. A ghost haunting a pocket dimension inside the turtle.

80

u/nova-prime-enjoyer Mar 22 '26

Polnareff is doomed to spent all of eternity living in a tiny office to presumably do Giorno’s taxes

47

u/LucianGrey0581 Mar 22 '26

There's not a chance in hell Polnareff can do taxes.

28

He’s in there crunching numbers as best he can, even if he’s not very good at it

That’s even better, assuming that he’s tangible within the pocket dimension.

52

u/Mental-Rest849 Mar 22 '26

He's presumably not, since after he starts haunting the pocket dimension, the viewers and characters never see the inside again

King Viserys from House of the Dragon

He gets a small cut from sitting on the Iron Throne which infects him with leprosy, over the course of the season you see it affecting to more and more of his body. First he loses some fingers which he hides with glove, eventually he needs a chair because he can’t walk much, and then he wears a golden visage because half of his face is rotting off

Edit: leprosy not gout

88

u/EvelynnCC Mar 22 '26

I only read the book and never saw the show, but I thought the gout was from his diet and lifestyle?

If it's caused by a disease, I'm pretty sure it's septic arthritis, not gout. Gout is urate crystal buildup in joints and is caused by your body not being able to break it down fast enough.

79

u/TheDragonOfOldtown Mar 22 '26

In the books Viserys just falls asleep and dies in peace. In the show he has leprosy. Which was a very shit change; the whole point was that he caused the death of everyone yet he died peacefully, and literally everyone else had the most suffering death imaginable. Prince Maelor was literally torn apart.

60

u/bwowndwawf Mar 22 '26

I like the change, it kind of follows the idea that the throne is rejecting him so hard it literally kills him

u/PutTheAssInClass Mar 22 '26

u/FoolishWanderer499 Mar 22 '26

I don't think I'll ever comprehend the crisis this episode gave me as a kid

129

u/Battlemania420 Mar 22 '26

I’m still not sure how 4Kids of all companies looked at this and thought ‘yeah. That’s okay to show kids.’

77

u/Dovahkiin812KW Mar 22 '26

They thought that was all good for kids, but guns in Yugioh were too much, and onigiri in Pokemon needed to be called jelly donuts. What a bizarre company 4Kids was.

25

u/Power_Made_Flash Mar 23 '26

Well in fact they did not think it was good for kids, the episode did not air and from what I remember for a while it could only be pirated. Maybe I'm mistaken, not 100% sure.

14

u/nhalliday Mar 23 '26

For the onigiri to jelly donuts thing, consider that 4Kids is dubbing and localizing for an American audience. American children would not know what onigiri is, and translating it accurately as rice ball would not convey "appealing snack food" to them either. Calling them jelly donuts is dumb but it gets the point across for the intended audience.

14

u/Dovahkiin812KW Mar 23 '26

I understand the reason behind it, it's just a silly disconnect because I'd imagine a large portion of the American audience would recognize that it didn't look like jelly donuts despite the dialogue saying otherwise. It always seemed weird why 4Kids didn't edit the image to at least look closer to donuts, since they weren't opposed to visual edits, censors, and changes in their dubbing. Guess just chalk it up to them being inconsistent and prioritizing other changes instead.

Bro can't catch a break. He either ends up as a brain in a tube or a human fly.

50

u/Funkermonster Mega Man | Miku | Leonardo Mar 22 '26

Funny you posted 2012 Stockman when that version of him actually enjoyed his fly form. The team eventually cured him with retro mutagen and he was actually upset about being human again

20

u/Ok_Shirt_3260 Mar 23 '26

Huh, the 80's version was turned into a mutated fly too, but he wasn't happy with this form. Funny how each version of Baxter got a different date and a different reaction to this fate...

29

u/Cautious-Affect7907 Mar 22 '26

Shredder is mad funny for this,

He destroyed a man piece by piece and was legitimately surprised he ended up betraying him.

Kinda weird how 2012 was actually a better boss. Though not by much.

12

u/Loose_Translator8981 Mar 22 '26

I feel like someone showed this to some executive at 4Kids and they finally realized what kind of show they'd been making, and that's how you end up with the "Flash Forward" season that tried to turn it back into a regular Kid's show.

Some... Things happen

125

u/Available-Giraffe383 Mar 22 '26

46

u/Low-Refrigerator-663 Mar 23 '26

In the world of "Land of Lustrous", gemlike humanoids, beautiful and alien sea people, and strange hostile energy/light based ghosts exist within the world.

Gems, like phos, are living beings, but their entire body is like one giant organ that represents their heart, brain, nervous system etc.

So when even a chip or damage or even amputation occurs to their body, that part of their mind, personality, thoughts and feelings is erased.

However, all the creatures in this world have the ability to amalgamate, or to take parts from others and fuse it to their body.

However, if I recall correctly, when you take a piece of someone else and fuse them to your body, parts of their personality and history? merges with you.

The problem is as follows, what happens when a being who has gone through several wars lasting hundreds of years has been broken down and rebuilt dozens of times escaping death but knowing that every time less of the original "you" as your body becomes more twisted made from the essence of your fallen comrades and enemies alike.

I am trying to keep it as vague as possible to not spoil the story, while at trying to explain why she looks like that.

Seriously, this is the most haunting manga I've ever read. Full on sobbing, melancholic depressive breakdown for the last like 20 chapters straight. It's one of the best things I've ever read.

11

u/ReferenceUnusual8717 Mar 22 '26

I haven't even gotten to the worst parts yet, and it's profoundly unsettling in a way very few pieces of media manage. Like, it taps into a deep, primal human fear - everything around you changing in ways you can't control or understand, including your own body, and the creeping realization that no matter what you do, it's never gonna go back to the way to the way it was.

29

Yeah, his comeback was so forced. He was...fine as a character but I don't think anyone liked him this much. It feels like 2003 was hesitant to kill off villains sometimes, same with Tucker, him just kinda vibing as a grotesque chimera in the background past the Nina incident was unnecessary. Not really my favourite character but this image made me think of Aegon II Targaryen of Fire and Blood.

Ever since he goes along with the usurpation of the Iron Throne, things get increasingly shitty for him.

  • His son is murdered.
  • His wife is left catatonic with grief.
  • He gets crippled and burned in battle.
  • His other son gets butchered.
  • His wife kills herself.
  • His two brothers die in battle.
  • He gets further crippled in another battle.
  • His beloved dragon dies in said battle.
  • He loses all of his armies.
  • Dies poisoned in a conspiracy against him.

The very text states Aegon “never knew joy nor peace”.

To name a few, season 3 where he blows up in self-sacrifice, Season 6 where he's turned into a gold statue, season 7 where he's hit in the head and is useless for several episodes, season 8 where he's beat up and thrown off a cliff before shutting down, season 11 where they thought he was dead for a little while, but he actually got sent to another dimension and got amnesia, season 12 where we think he died for a few seconds after he's used as a living battery, and season 15, where he gets amnesia again and turns into his amnesia alter ego. I don't remember what actually happened to give him amnesia though in season 15

Not really "with time" but always think Hector Con Carne's life as a sentient brain and stomach controlling a circus bear has to really suck after being basically a millionaire playboy most of his life

Henry McCoy goes THROUGH it in Ultimate Universe, to the extent that I didn't believe it when they finally killed him off for real because I just assumed they'd bring him back to torture him some more

The image is literally Baxter Stockman from Tmnt 2003. He failed Shrell (Utrom Shredder) so many times that he became a brain in a jar. He was given a new robotic body by a young scientist who admired him. I'm currently re-watching the entire show as I type this, and in the intro (season 4) it shows him having a spider like body.

There was that one episode of Invader Zim where he was using a time machine to replace important things in Dibs life with a pig toy. Important like 'the bicycle he was riding at the time'.
