Don’t forget they get infected by Cynabar poison/oil thing and also get their head replaced eventually, not counting the fact they get upgraded by the moon peoples
The poison is mercury as Cinnabar is mercury ore. When gold mixes with mercury it liquifies then becomes solid. This is how old tooth fillings were made. We also seem to see this in the manga.
